A welcome return to one of Scotland's finest in Andy D who no doubt will ba accompanied by his travelling entourage the McWhitmore's(make sure the bars stocked with a crate of Red) and last but not least the legend that is Mr Ian Cunliffe who will be bring his own unique version of modern soul to the proceedings, not to be missed.

Hello lovely people.

Been a bit quiet on here and, for me, soul-wise in general these last few months due to work, kids etc. Still, only three weeks or so to go now and plenty of folk saying they're turning up on the 7th June so looking like a really good night all things being equal.

We'll miss you two Spot and, by way of a special tribute, push the boat right out and make this the best one yet lol. (Look forward to catching up with you sometime soon mate, enjoy the sunshine). Good lass Sandy, multi-tasking n all that; tres impressive!

Never fear Sandy

Just so you don't suffer any with any Elvis withdrawal symptoms on the night I'm sure PhilT will put his white sequined jump suit on again and get "All Shook Up" just for you. :elvis: Well let's be honest anythings better than listening to the 'Trent Sisters' even an ole' crooner from Bamber Bridge.  :wicked:

You swine Welding! Right, I'm bringing the blighter just outta spite now (the jump suit that is). Ahuh!

The Trent Sisters and the accompanying groans of disapproval from your hidey hole out in the orangery has become somewhat of a Grumpy tradition and, since it's the anniversary, I'll indulge you one more time Dave lol. (Mark'll be up to as per. Top fella, impeccable taste!)

Steady on Joan

The last time you bought Phil a costume back from that museum of yours, he ended up walking around Preston looking like Tutankhamun in drag ! (cue the Bangles ' Walk like An Egytian') maybe the Delcos 'Arabia' too ?

Sacr'e bleu !!!!!

I always thought PhilT was taller in real life ?

Oh yes and that master in the art of disguise Carlos Fortnum was recently spotted trawling through a pile of old dusties at a record fair in Luton, he thought he'd cracked it wearing a false ginger beard , dark glasses, a 1987 Take That world tour sweat shirt and talking with a Rumanian accent (much to the annoyance of his next door neighbour), but  he was soon rumbled as he handed his dosh over to Mick Smith for his latest purchases, the size of his hands were a dead give away. :shades:

Had Fortnum on the phone last night, as mad and up for it as ever is the lad

Not long at all now so anyone else wanting sales space please let us know. Had a pm asking for hotels and stuff, will post as soon as I get to a pc (can't cut and paste on this stupid phone) so apologies for not getting details up sooner

Roll on!!

Ok gang, not long now

All DJs are accounted for and bringing records and everything, the Mansfield lads are chomping at the bit (have to say from the pictures their neighbourhood looks a little posh - is that Butch on the guitar thingy?), that funky kid is all cravat-ed up and booked into old Runcorn Town, Roger Banks is well Roger Banks, Cunliffe will be along fresh from wrestling the local wildlife and heaven knows what Fortnum's got planned (apart from showing his bits that is)

Just another night at the Grumpy office then ... can't wait

Gadzooks! Just checked out the NS awards thread and feel hopelessly inadequate.

As Saturday approaches fast, prospective attendees are asked to bear in mind the following harsh realities:

- there's no 'turn' on

- there is no dance competition / workshop

- nope, no awards either

Your fiver will secure only the following meagre offerings I'm afraid:

- Carl Fortnumboy with his arse out of cowboy pants

- a sinister mechanical cat dancing to Dana's [equally sinister yet undeniably haunting 1970s smash] all kinds of everything

- a handful of carefully selected buffoons playing soul records for eight hours

You know it makes sense.

Well that was alright wasn't it!

A couple of other things on in the NW last night which doubtless attracted good crowds  and which we thought might impinge on us pretty heftily. (We posted the date aaages ago, then thought about changing it, couldn't find an alternative so just went with it in the end and, as it transpired we needn't have worried; 120 through the door which, in our gaff, is about ideal for creating the right  atmosphere without folk being  rammed in and uncomfortable).

As per this thread, there were a good number of 'regulars' who couldn't make it for various reasons and we missed the likes of Len, Mark, Dale, Mick, Spot and Gail as they're all part of the furniture really. Nonetheless, as always seems to be the case, we had a good chunk of people giving it a whirl for the first time too which means numbers always just about even out.

As I always say, it's really about who gets in that counts because that's what makes it what it is and, sure enough, gawd bless the up-for-it, tuned-in lot who turn up every single time; some sit and listen, catch up with old mates who turn up out of the blue unexpectedly, while others sweat their nads off all night. No grumbling, no hassle, no rocket science, it just seems to buzz i.e. 30+ dancing when the lights went on (revealing Carl Fortnum, sporting shades, on the mic alongside George Brown giving us his exclusive, extended version of 'pyramid'. Intense to the bitter end  :elvis: )

Brilliant to have the Mansfield massive in, great lads all, and gotta give John K a mention just for getting there; unbelievable effort mate, hope you got home ok. To Andy, Ian, Dave and Carl who are all proper mates and never, ever let us down dj-wise, to TnL for their usual sterling efforts on the bloody door all night, massive thanks as always. Oh aye ... while we drive each other and everybody nuts with our combined panic about everything, without your passion, attention to detail and the energy you channel into making sure everything's right, usually at the expense of much of your own enjoyment, it'd become very ordinary very quickly Joan. Thanks

Purely due to the way the events calendar looks we've not sorted another date yet for this year and beyond. We're onto it, watch this space ...

Cheers

Phil

ps. As mentioned in despatches ...  bit of a 'drama' late-on re the venerable Shard's 'missing' box of 45s which, as we hoped and really expected, turned up safe and sound. Don't tell anyone but I think I actually put em in someone's car myself when I was 'helping' em load-up, which kinda makes my going off like a cheap alarm clock at the time all the more embarassing :shhh::lol:

Wow what a superb night from start to finish. Only just coming round now!! Thanks for the "soul fix" i needed, will do me now till Brid. Did miss some of the "usual suspects", but i'm sure they had major reasons for missing one of THE BEST soul nights around. You simply must have another, if only for their sake's?  Heard some great tunes all night from all dj's, thanks to (think it was) Andy Dennison for flipping that record for me.......went down well. Great atmosphere, loads of laughs, thanks to Tony for the lift and Audrey Hepburn aka Joyann for the company. :D  Glad Rod's records were found. Great pics from Skippy Sue in gallery. Thanks again to all concerned that make Grumpy's so special xxx
