The Soul Shack

The Genesis Centre 32-46 King St, Alfreton DE55 7DQ

5th July and the first Saturday of each month

Following a very successful time at Hollingwood Hotel Chris and Terry are very happy to let you all know that they have secured a new venue in order to continue where they left off!

We now have a venue with a large room and 'overflow' dance floor (which may be a 2nd room in the future) and separate bar area. Comfortable seating, cheap bar, good car parking (massive car park to the rear of the building)

Top DJs from around the UK will join us each month to play quality Northern, semi known, rarer and underplayed / forgotten vinyl from the 60s and 70s: If you like to listen to Northern Soul the way we used to and not overwhelmed with the same old tunes than why not pay us a visit? We would love to welcome you !

£3.50 - 8pm until 1am

Chris Cooper: 07715 297239

Terry Westhead: 07970 559132

If you google earth the post code De55 7 dq and zoom in you will find a huge car park at the rear of the Genesis Centre. If in the past you came to the alfreton soul nights its the same car .park except the entrance to the centre is on the opposite side. there is a smaller car park at the front of the building where the main entrance is. The genesis centre is slightly set back from King Street and about 150 ysrds down from the main junction in the town or about 200 ysrds up from the large Tesco site. call me on 07715 297239 if in any doubt. see you there Chris

You can also enter the centre from the large car park to the rear. There is no need to walkall the way round. Chris

I don't go out too much nowadays on the local Northern Scene because nothing really inspires me to get out and about ( apart from Black Hearts ) so I'm looking forward to this starting in July. On a Saturday too which is good for us shift workers..

See you there

First of what we hope will be many. Great guests on who know what the Music is all about.  You are more than welcome to join us and see what we are all about.  Rare ( but not for the sake of it ) and underplayed interspersed with the occasional classic track.  Away from the book but hopefully a taste of your youth. See you Saturday !

For those who went to Brid and have any energy left, we would be glad to help you keep that happy soulful vibe going at The Shack!

If you didn't go to Brid - well we would like to make sure you leave us at the end of the night with that happy soulful vibe!

Either way we would be glad to see you !

First night jitters !!! Always a nervy time but I think we have it all sussed.  Same policy and Promoters as The Hollingwood which seemed to be doing the right thing.  5 Mins from the M1, 2 Mins from the A38. Plenty of parking available round the back and the guy that holds the keys is a Soul Fan ( proper one ) so it may turn into a mini nighter !!!!

Hopefully we will see you there.  Safe journey wherever you may venture this weekend XXX

Looking forward to guesting at this events launch, I'm sure it will be a great night and I can't wait to be dusting off some sides I wouldn't ordinarily get to play very often,

Will make every effort to be there from the kick off, or as near as,

See you there

"It's been a long time coming" Sam Cooke once sang - but for us it's here at last!

The sounds of Hollingwood in our new home - The Soul Shack, Genesis Centre, Alfreton

Carrying on from where we left off - Chris and Terry moving on in the right direction!

By the way, for those who attended last weekends Bridlington weekender then you can read all about the Hollingwood legacy and how we have arrived at this point - a double page spread by Chris in the magazine which was given out when registering for the weekend.

Hope to see some of our lovely friends later and also some who we may have not welcomed before at The Hollingwood but who would like a taste of something just a bit different from the 'norm' !

I always think it's best to let those who paid comment on any new soul night so I will shut up after I've said .......! I thought that last night at the Soul Shack was spot on. Yes there are one or two things to smooth out (the floor being a tad less smooth one of them!!) and the bar venue but it was a good night and a great venue - over 100 through the doors so a great big thank you to everyone who came - it's really appreciated x

Brilliant night last night at Genesis, what a crackin venue , definately one to look forward to each month. Music policy is spot on, as is only to be expected with Chris and Terry as promoters! Good to have a soul night back in Alfreton, only down the road for us too! Give this place a try next month, cos you definately won't be disappointed! Tina and Phil.

Loved it, a breath of fresh air, a great venue serving up quality classics mixed with lesser played and a sprinkling of, to me, unknown, with all tempos and eras catered for, well worth a visit,

Loved my bit, and everyone elses but I have to give a special mention (something I wouldn't normally do) to Mr Westhead, co promoter and all round nice guy, this fella played as good a set as I've heard at a soul night for a very long time,

Thanks for the invite and long live the Soul Shack

Thank you Pete for those kind words.  As always, a joy to hear you play. Nice start to our tenure at The Genesis Centre. Keeping it as we did at The Hollingwood but now in some more auspicious surroundings.  In the eagerness to please the floor was polished to n'th degree.  Slippy, not slippy, Talc, no Talc. Difficult to get a happy medium but hopefully we can get that bit right next time along with the Bar.  Hope it didn't spoil your enjoyment.  A 'second room' through the alcove gave us a more forgiving floor so not too bad.

A massive thanks to our guests from the smelly side of the Pennines.  Stephen Connolly of Alderly Edge who played from his heart and his memories of our early days with a fabulous selection of tunes.  Particulary loved The Commands ( Add to Wants List ).  Mr Pete Eccles, a personal fave DJ of mine and a pleasure to finally get him behind the Decks.  Knows his stuff and what a storming set he played.  Thanks for Bonnie Pete.  Finally my fellow Host Chris Cooper.  Always picks the tunes that do the bizz.

Big thanks to Sharon for her continuing help and support.

Finally, and more importantly, a massive thank you to all who attended and made it a great night.  Without you guys and girls we would be some sad old sods playing to an empty room XXX

Back next Month, August 2nd with the legend that is Andy Powell, gonna be another hot one I think !!!

Great venue, find the Weetherspoons and its across the road, set back behind some gates, easy to drive by it !

Caught Pete Eccles and Chris Coopers spots Good sized room and excellent dance floor...right people in there, which goes to prove "play them and they will come" !

well done to all involved

Well what a start. Couple of minor issues but they can be sorted. In my zeal to create a nice dance floor from the very sticky one I found earlier in the day I may have overdone it a tad. Lol. Apologies for that next month I'll just bring some talc. Great first night. Thank you for coming and supporting us. It's not completely of the beaten track we play everything from back in the day and give our guests freedom to play from there hearts. That may mean on occasions it's not always a full dance floor but in line with our ethos and the response it seems to work. Thanks to Pete and Steve for sticking with it ( the ethos) and Terry for a cracking spot and to my missis for her door work, she's a star. And thank you for all your kind comments on here and on other social media sites. Thinking of doing a dedicated Cleethorpes hour next month. You up for it. Guest is Andy ,the Leicester fan Powell. Expect some great northern tunes.
