This event is now over. Look up now to read the latest reviews of this soul event

Hi Folks,

Make the most of this next ‘Lennys’ as there won’t be another for a while - Well, until such a time when I feel it will really thrive without the amount of effort needed for it to do so. It needs to be done at the right time, not coinciding with other events (An event is an event, no matter what ‘flavour’ I guess)

As you all know, this event is the natural progression from ‘Lens Den’, and has achieved a huge step up from that. Even so, I don’t want to add yet another event to the already busy calendar (just for the sake of it), it has to be right.

So, until that time - I’ll see you around (and at 'Lennys' on 11th April of course!)

All the best,

Len

………….To be continued………maybe…….

Know I'm not alone thinking it'll be a shame if you decide to stop what you and supporters have started Len...You're right it's a busy calendar, local soul choices and a good few other nights up and down the country, but I think there's enough of us look forward to a slightly different night where the DJs get a bit more free licence than many places and where we don't mind whether it's a full house / full floor all night or not. Anyway, I've started the petition so we'll see aye!

In the meantime I look forward to this 3rd round of "Lenny's" and seeing everyone again soon.  :)

Not too long for this event now.

Last two have been knock-out with music to "die-for".

This one I know will follow the same successful formula.

Great DJ line up.   Make sure you get this one marked in your planners now.

Cheers....................          Tom.

Why am I getting phone calls for this event already? It is supposed to be a disastrous evening with just me, and maybe Nina (if even she turns up!!!)

Stay away you B*stards! :D

Troop;

Sadly I wont be at this one as I'll be at Soul Essence,Leonard you really do need to get a grip, I doubt any of the faces that have attended your previous two sessions will choose 'Northern Soul' over what was and will be played at 'Lenny's'.

So I dont want to hear any more of this nonsense put the bloody do on you tart, your psychiatrist has told you many times "be a man of the people" :)

I only ever get called 'Leonard' when someone is cross with me (Nina)

Point taken Brian - We'll see on the night mate.

Have a cracking time at Soul Essence, and if 'by chance' this latest project does go from strength to strength, I'll make sure I don't clash with it again (I quite fancy returning to Soul Essence with the gang again myself)

Cheers,

Len

'You're on!"......Mind you, I did find it tough staying 'quiet and still' in your soul lounge - People in there seemed to be enjoying themselves in a relaxing manner (strange lot)

Better than 'Northern Soul' though

Len, don't buckle just put the nite on and don't fret so much. Its a great nite and its different so its not clashing with anyone. If you stop, what will the other nites be playing in a year or two!!

Let your reasoning to whether or not the nite continues be measured by the punters thru the door.

Yours sincerely Northern Norman

Ps Nina up Lens Prozac when he has his Horlicks and jim jams on.

'Snow on fire'......makes no sense.......and that is why I so like that line :D

Not sure where we are all meeting for the lunch time get together as yet - It will either be The Priory, or The Dog and Duck.

Hi Len

Keep up the good work mate you and Nina have achieved great things with this venue, Mick n Mo are on fire too at the moment, heard them 2 weeks ago top tunage. Yes they are right Bob keeps pulling new things out as well, im so lucky to have him as a travelling partner. We all know the Soul calendar is very busy, but quality places are few and far between as we all know. Dorset is one of the worst places to get to by road, that's why we have attended every Lens Den and every Lennies, Travelling through Little Ann, Jacks Bush and Sutton Scotney [yes those are villages en route] we never laugh.

So chin up my boy The Dog and Duck it is 13.58 exactly,Dorset and Shropshire will be waiting.

all the best

Hello Dave ‘n’ Trace,

It’s a funny one; I’m not down about at least having a break from ‘selling’ my promotions, that is it in a nutshell really - the word ’sell’. I’m not ‘going off in a mood’ about other events or anything like that, it’s simply a fact that to run a ‘niche inside a niche’ event such as this successfully, it does need a lot of ‘selling’ - Not sure what others around feel, but even I’m getting sick of the sound of my own voice plugging it here, there, and everywhere (but that is what is needed)

There used to be a natural gravitation of people to certain events, but now (putting the actual ‘product’ to one side for a moment) you need the luck of it falling right, as in not coinciding with other events. Again, this is not a dig at any other events (or persons) it’s just factual, and I’m quite relaxed about it.

If next Saturdays event is something that can’t be ignored, I may suggest for Jem to roll out the project under his Soul Junction ‘Umbrella’ at The Court Yard, Stanwick. This could be a way forward, you guys would love The Court Yard as it’s very much like Albrighton, and you could all get rooms there (Great restaurant to) If this is something that everyone wants, get in touch with Jem to let him know, then he can consider it - This would mean less input from me, which is what I need at present (I’d just take care of the music side of things for these particular nights)

It could work if everyone collectively gets behind it - as you all do anyway, which is really appreciated, and not least the miles some of you travel for these special gatherings

……Oh, we’ll need a new name (again)

All the best,

Len

I've been down The Dog 'n' Duck to check it ahead of next Sat (even though, for years every Dopson family celebration has been spent in that restaurant!) :D

Apparently it gets quite busy on a Saturday, and the bar area is smaller than The Priory - If this becomes a problem, I'll bundle you all in the back of my transit van, and we'll 'whizz' off round The Priory in that

The Bar Manager at The Priory was very disappointed that he won't be seeing you all :D

Until Saturday folks

Len

Sadly Len, things more saturated than ever mate with Northern Soul events, nothing can be done as it's fair game so they say! Like you i remember a time when if a Northern Soul night was on within 20 miles you just went, because you liked Northern Soul generally, now liking the music and having a good time is not enough, there's the 'type of Northern Soul' Do you like the promoter? might they play something i don't know or like? to overcome, too much choice, to many opinions a bit like TV these days. I just keep flicking through 100 channels or more, dodging adverts then put my box DVD set of 'Curb your Enthusiasm' on, quite apt really!  :P

In the end it comes down (from a promoting point of view) effort verses reward (not just financial) and available time. Unless you want to throw away money and valuable time then stop! you have a young family and wife, the bare facts are if you choose a venue and fix a door price then a certain amount need to pay and walk through the door to make it work ie. at least break even.

Sure we could try something at The Soul Junction in the future! but in all honesty we are back to square one. For two years on the trot now i have been approached by some local promoters about dates at Stanwick I have done my best to keep as much distance between mine and others, only for them to then put on events the same night or one before, as has happened with you recently. I am about to cancel the next Northern Soul Night at The Soul Junction planned for 26th June for that reason.

I like you are not sulking it's fine there is more to SOUL than Northern Soul and personally looking forward to other projects at The Junction, which i know you will enjoy. And looking forward to supporting Dave with 'Soul in the Attic' Nights at Rushden.

So let's hope this last? Lennys is one for the good memory banks and plenty come along. Unfortunately working that night as you know but will be there in the afternoon to set up kit with you.

And hey mate we will both have a bit more time to go to the many Northern Soul Nights on, if they let us in   :)  take care all the best folks! Get yourselves along to Lenny's!

Hi all fantastic nite, we echo all of the above. I think sublime sums it up in a post above. Upfront in every way, the only thing that reminded me of soul events of back in the day was the expectation of the punters that they were going to hear something for the first time that would blow them away, Well that was how it was for us back then and still is, and of course the friends made on the way.

Len and Nina the sky's the limit last nite the Mutts nuts, then upward. TOMORROW its...... bugger its work ahhh well. atb kimbo n Lisa

Had a great time thanks Len, Nina, everyone there making it that bit special...up there with the best of these kind of nights for sure. Some amazing soul played by all the DJs and I certainly had a good go at dancin my socks and shoes off to all manner of genres and tempos + really enjoyed playing a few records at half time and at the end

So the sign has been taken down for now, but pretty sure there'll be a gathering of some sort like this for us all again before the years out...certainly enough demand for it but hard work getting everyone together I know.

Cheers and see you soon, Steve

Venue owner: "So Len, shall we take it down now or not? Is this the last one FFS make your mind up! :D "

Len: "Yeah do it Billy...I never liked the colour anyway..too bright. "

On ebay sometime soon, no reserve :)

George Clooney look-alike????? More like Albert Steptoe Tony  :shhh:

I thought last night was special....hadn't been out in a long, long time and yet, it felt like a new dawn. Just What I needed to shake me up a bit. Didn't like everything as  I have an over-developed handbag gene , danced just once but that's more than I have in last 5 months or so. But it reminds me of when I started going to Ralph & Tom do's at Lutterworth....fresh and new and challenging (in a good way) and whetting the appetite again for more. Goes without saying that the truly genuine, friendly people attend who aren't lost in a soul-only bubble and function in real-life too.....Win, you know what I mean :) Great to meet Dave Bentley and  Mel, alongside all the usual suspects particularly - Mark W and his carer Paul so good to see you both healthy and smiling :) it's 'family' no other explanation really.

Len and Nina and Steve thank you so much for having us at the party - noticed that every person who came through the door was greeted with a smile a handshake and or a hug whether they were old comrades or new to the fold....equally everyone was thanked individually for attending as they left.....excellent customer services gang....that's what other places lack along with the tunes...

Thanks all XXXX Au revoir not good bye!!!!

Lenny...just one complaint too much brilliant music....I am too old and need a rest so a few crap djs are required scattered through the night.  I might be able to leave the dance floor for a few minutes then.

No an excellent night...enjoyed every one I have been to and never disappointed.  Nice to go somewhere where I am still hearing new sounds.   Thanks for all you have done ...hopefully you might have a rethink after last night.  Brilliant !!!  Gary

Big thanx to team Len for letting Mo and me play a few of our records. Was made up for Len with the numbers through the door. Heard some great soul from all the players, with there choice of records played from the heart the way it should be. What's so good is the peeps in lens events are so up for hearing new stuff to them, a few of the bits we 1st played in lens den have become faves at Lenny's and we had several requests for . Only managed to slot in 2 new 1st play's on sat but they had a few dancers and both had applause , it really is a breath of fresh air. Good music good people and not to be missed !!!
