Early shout for this one

Even more of a nightmare than usual trying to sort out a date, have booked and cancelled at least half a dozen times for one reason or another, sigh. Unsurprisingly the club has had a rush on wedding bookings this year lol

Anyway, 6th December it is. Full line up to follow but will be your usual four idiots plus one / maybe two more

How reassuring is that LOL

Hopefully Mrs 'T' will want a new carpet between now and December the 6th and you'll be forced to sell it, and perhaps a new conservatory then hopefully the Trent Sisters will go too. OMG I've just had a terrible thought you haven't got a spare of that too !!!!!

Hi everyone

Had a couple of emails asking about hotels so here they are:

  • Closest is the Camponile on Lowlands Road, WA7 5TP - 01928 581771 / book on-line
  • Holiday Inn on Wood Lane, Beechwood, WA7 3AH - 0871 423 4876 / book on-line
  • Premier Inn, Preston Brook WA7 3BB - 0871 527 8954 / book on-line

There's also a taxi office on the club car park which is handy if you're staying over - roll out of the club straight into a cab, perfect!

Really encouraging to see a good few members have it lined up already and loads not on here say they're bobbing along so it's looking like another v healthy turnout. Get there early; no warm ups, right on it from the off as per!

Banksie's already checked-in, along with Dave of course; if anyone else wants a table gizza shout.

We'll post times etc next week

We've been busy and out n about again this weekend, as far afield as Weaverham, Stewartby, Clitheroe and beyond. It's simply impossible to get to every venue you want to so a huge thank you to those who've taken flyers for us - you know who you are - and to other promoters for letting em of course. Much appreciated!

If just 60% of those who say they're gonna show up make it along it'll be some night next Saturday! Roll on ...

Cheers

Spoke to Mr Fortnum on the phone last night - I gave him a 'pep' talk, advising him to play the 'correct' side of two of his rarities - See if you can spot em :D

I know it's been a long gap since the last one, but patience is a virtue an' all that.....and such a long time for you to build up those 'pre-match' nerves.....Myself and Mr Scotney are leaving at 5.28pm so as to witness the early doors pressure! :D

Seriously though, good luck with this night guys - See you there

Like Phil said, we’ve been in better shape and I know you’ll bear that in mind while stood at the bar looking over at the stage with father-like concern Len lol. Can’t wait to see you and like you said, been ages

Drew, birthday (and non-birthday) requests are a must — if any of us have them we will definitely play them. Good job you’ve only just gone public that it’s your special day, God knows what Fortnum would’ve turned up with if he’d had prior warning …

Everybody seems to be absolutely buzzing so looks like its gonna be really busy and rockin tonight

Plenty of parking at the club but I'd still get there early as poss.

What a relief ! first Rod Shard's record box and wrist watch, and now a camera Grumpy's is fast becoming the Bermuda Triangle of the Northern Scene. Yes once again Mr Cunnliffe has taken full advantage of my 'Good'nature and fleeced me royally  , funny accent ? mind you everyone sarf' of Knutsford speaks with a fork tongue to him  take it easy with the Harley (even if it ain't got a bracket to fit your fishing basket and rod too).

Another top night, even managed to escape the Runcorn city limits at the first attempt only to realise that we should have dropped theMcWhitmore's off at their Hotel  So back in we went deposted the McWhitmore's at their chosen hostelry. Yep! you've guessed it we got lost on the second time out what a godforsaken place Widnes is at 4am in the Morning, that's what you get with Louise navigating by the stars, pity it' was the ones on folks Christmas Tree's and not the one's up in the sky.

P.S Anyone notice PhilT's gait ? looks as if his recent operation has left him walking like John Wayne :wicked:

50+ events on up and down the country last night so a massive thanks to all those who turned up at our gaff. Really healthy attendance again with folk having travelled from far and wide and, in one or two cases, having had to implement plan B to get there. Brilliant to see Gaz, Iram, Giz n Louis (the Preston posse), Karl H, John, Dek P, Billy and  loads of other 'faces'; thank you so much for your support, really means a lot.

Having prompted folk to be early we were a couple of minutes late turning things on ourselves due to Mick n Dale taking 3 hours to get ready, doing their hair (one each) etc - heartfelt apologies to the people who came on the stroke of eight and had the dreadful misfortune to see us with the lights on.

Seriously, MnD drove down from Scotland and turned up at 4.30pm to give us a lift with the equipment, and were still there doing the same at 4.30am, before driving back. Proper, proper lads  :hatsoff2:

i won't bang on too much about the night itself other than to thank Joan, Dave, Lou and Carl for being absolutely brilliant as always and Alex of course for guesting for us; really good to see you n Bernard mate.

Musically, it was the usual, eclectic mix I thought with one highlight being Fortnum asking for tissues prior to playing Gerri Grainger. Spat my coke out  Thinking about it, that could so easily be a WTF moment, and was to some extent, but it's one of the things that I think puts him right up there as a DJ and which kinda reflects the night as a whole ie one-offs, mega rarities, quality oldies, something a bit left field every now and again. Loved it!

Finally, we asked em to give the floor a buff and they didn't.  We will ask them again in advance of 4th April and, if its too much trouble (grrrr), we'll go down and bloody do it ourselves. Either way it'll be right.

cheers

Phil

......Just as I was planning to ‘kinda’ reduce my going out a touch more….. ‘you lot’ go and serve up the kind of night that suits me down to the ‘under’ ground

I didn’t catch up with everyone I wanted to, but everyone I did speak to agreed that the music was a real nice balance of Soul music, that we knew / hadn’t heard for years / or didn’t know (but liked)

There is definitely a bit of that old ‘magic’ at this venue (As Kirsty touched upon in her post) I hope it continues to grow from strength to strength for you (as it has been nice and steadily)

Thanks to all involved for a smashing evening

All the best,

Len

P.s - It was nice to spend some time with people from my local area properly, I really enjoyed that.....I plan to meet up with a Runcorn crowd in Northants sometime soon ........The 'unexplainable' world of Northern Soul - Love it :D

P.p.s - and what a great record to finish on.

‘Reggie Soul - My World Of Ecstasy’……….Just beautiful……

Well that was alright wasn’t it? It’s no secret that we take the night seriously (as in trying to make sure everything's as right as it can be) - people travel and it’s important.

Again, it’s no secret I’m rubbish compared to the tall one at write-ups so I’ll keep it sweet. I won’t name names, just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came, danced, laughed and caused mayhem (Fortnum). Your support and unashamed up-for-it-ness is awesome!

4 April is the next instalment — save the date

Hi Dave,

'Eddie Parker - Crying Clown'.....I had planned to cause an awkward 'I'm in a mood' atmosphere all the way home in the car with Carl if he didn't play it (just for the crack like) :D Thanks for playing that Carl

He also played 'The Trends - Not To Old To Cry'.......I'm convinced he sang along to a couple of his records, but I may be wrong on that........I thought I saw my mum at an All-nighter once so probably best to take what I say 'with a pinch of salt'

Dave Welding played.....'something I love that Dave Vanner also plays but can't for the life of me remember what it's called'.......(Nige may be able to help me on this one)

Good Soul music at a Soul event

Len
