The Soul Shack Details

The Soul Shack

6th September and the first Saturday of each month: Guest DJ for this is month is John Poole.

A great venue with a large room and 'overflow' dance floor (which may be a 2nd room in the future) and separate bar area. Comfortable seating, cheap bar, good car parking (massive car park to the rear of the building)

Top DJs from around the UK will join us each month to play quality Northern, semi known, rarer and underplayed / forgotten vinyl from the 60s and 70s: If you like to listen to Northern Soul the way we used to and not overwhelmed with the same old tunes than why not pay us a visit? We would love to welcome you !

£3.50 - 8pm until 12.30

Chris Cooper: 07715 297239

Terry Westhead: 07970 559132

Get ready for another hot and busy night!! event-4245-0-79808000-1407026875_thumb.j

The weather isn't that of a beautiful British Summers Day but you are sure of a warm welcome at The Soul Shack this evening. Can't guarantee you will be nice and dry by the end of the night but think you won't mind. Nigel Measures and John Poole will be the main protagonist's with myself and Chris J Cooper bringing up the rear. Hope to see you there. Stay safe XX

Thank you to everyone who attended last night - there was in excess of 85 people through the doors and we know that you heard some tremendous music. As we've always said, it's not about playing 'rare' records for the sake of it but rather about hearing some tunes that aren't in the usual play list of music that is common out and about these days. There may well be mixed in there sounds you've never heard but they are always Northern Soul!!
Anyway, it was a good night last night and we are grateful that the good times are continuing at the Shack. Unfortunately, (or perhaps not depending what you may think!) We aren't able to be there next month. We are sad to miss it but a week in Portugal is a good substitute! Terry will be ably assisted by Inner Souls Martin Smith with Scarborough and Bridlington weekenders very own Rob Wicks taking up the main DJ spot - it will be storming we are sure!

As Sharon said we had a great night last night.  Nigel took the opening slot and had us all reaching for the Northern Soul History Books to check out some of the tunes, brilliant selection. Myself and Chris filled until Mr Poole arrived on the decks and kept us tripping across the Dance floor.  A lot of old forgotten but quality music played all night by all the DJs.  Thanks to all who attended, quite a few new faces and despite missing soem of our 'regulars' to the Weekender we had a cracking night.  Thanks as always to the Sharon and Jo-an on the Door bringing a bright and cheerful welcome and to the Bar Staff for their help.  Not quite there with the Bar, working on it !

Next Month, as Mr and Mrs C are away on their Jolly's I will be assisted by Martin Smith of Inner Soul with our Guest being the Leg End that is Rob Wicks.  Hopefully we will see you then.  Take care XXX

If its all about packing them in then I guess we could do that. Pick the right djing mates advertise a Northern & motown night and not give a toss who turns up, or how much beer is spilt on the floor and packing them in and then playing the usual stuff, then we have failed miserably.

But it isnt for us and thats probably why we like it the way it is, and we won't change it for anybody.

Good night of good old northern soul, with plenty from back in the day.

thanks to Pooley, and Nige for their excellent sets.

Of on our hols next month so Terry s carrying the responsibility so come on over and cheer him on, abley assisted by Inner Souls Martin Smith and Stephen Perkins doing the warm up

thanks everyone for your support

Chris

Just like to thank Chris and Terry for asking me to do the warm up set , something i wasn't expecting . A dancer not a dj , however after initial nerves i settled down and thoroughly enjoyed the experience . Felt very honoured to be on the same bill as Mr John Poole a top dj and a top man who showed us how it's done properly . Got to say i enjoyed the rest of the night with John ,Chris and Terry playing lots of rarer and some just downright underplayed tunes that should not be forgotten . And thats what this place delivers a great alternative to the same old stuff .                                                                                   Atb  Nige

Been a few years since we lugged Gear around Martin Lol !! Thanks for the assistance and looking forward to your 'participation'. With yourself and Mr Wicks it should be equally as good as this Months was.  Nigel gave us a feast of forgotten oldies that hit the button and John was sublime in his selection.  My smile grew wider and wider as the night progressed as record after record emerged from days gone by.  Like being 18 again  ( If I can remember that far back ! )
