Did You Miss It? Last month saw the return of LOWTON CIVIC HALL to the soul calendar, and what a return it was. Two rooms packed with Soul fans being treated to some fantastic music from the 60’s 70’s and 80’s. Northern Soul classics and in-demand sounds in the main room and soulful 70’s and rare grooves in the Modern room all made for what was described by most as a ‘fantastic night! just like the old days of Lowton’

If you did miss it, make a date in your diary ‘cause we are back on Friday October 10th, as the ‘Home Of Soul’ welcomes special guest DJ’s, the man with sooo many tunes and one of the most popular DJ’s on the scene, Nottingham’s ROB SMITH in the Northern room, along with soul maestros STEVE PLUMB and ROGER WILLIAMS in the modern room.

The guests will be supported by the team of LOWTON regulars which this month includes BOB HINSLEY, KEV MURPHY, PAUL SHIRLEY, BAZ MALEADY and Love Music Revue, main man ANDY LOVE spinning everything from the Anderson Brothers to ZZ and Company including Northern from the great clubs such as Wigan, Stafford, Torch, Twisted Wheel VaVa’s and Blackpool Mecca with the choice of 70’s, 80’s and a smattering of Crossover in the back room.

Here’s just some of the comments posted online from August

‘Welcome back Lowton .... I've blxxdy missed you ! Main room was very busy whenever I popped in there, folk were enjoying themselves, & it looked great! The Back Room was immense!! Like a "modern" soul reunion’

‘It was.......TOTALLY EPIC!!’

‘Last night I was in NORTHERN SOUL HEAVEN !..... P H E N O M E N A L!’

‘What a fantastic night at Lowton !!! Back to its best ... . Fantastic crowd brilliant venue good music what more could you ask for ??? Superb dancefloor.’

‘A really fine evening of Rare Soul, with everyone excelling with their playlists-the alternate modern room was buzzing with dance floor action too, very enjoyable’

So, if you came along in August, Thank  You!...... you’ll know how good it was, if you didn’t then make it a date in your diary for OCTOBER 10th and Don’t Miss This!

After trip to the soul gallery to tart up the back room, and visits to many purveyors of soul music, we are ready to groove again in the Love Soul Music room! Starting at 8pm, were going to kick off with a more connoisseurs approach to the music. Lesser known, maybe unknown and future classics in the making with be played from 8 til 10, just like the early doors sessions at Parkers back in the day. So come early and we might just make your night!

After that we want to set the dancefloor alight with stone classics, forgotten favourites and groovy movers.

So at £1.20 an hour, why not get your full £6 worth, and we'll throw in another Love Soul Music cd  to the first 50 through the door.

i'm sure  that in our own way, we can pay our respects to our dear friend, rick foster, who passed away recently. the service & funeral are on this day in todmorden & burnley respectively....such a sad loss....i sincerely hope we can salute his name by paying some tunes in both rooms, in tribute to a genuinely warm, and friendly guy, loved by all across the scene......r.i.p. rick, god rest your soul, you will be remembered at lowton :hatsoff2:

Rick was a big fan of 70's soul groups like  Bloodstone, New Birth, Love, Peace & Happiness etc, and via cassettes, passed that love onto me. Searching out the lesser played album tracks from groups like them. I'd like to pay homage to that love on Friday. Don't know what yet.

once again, can i recommend you check out the fabulous selection of soundclips, andy love has placed on facebook, emphasizing the quality of music on offer in the lovesoulmusic review, part of this two room experience. naturally we will be giving a considerable nod to RICK, whom we all miss very much, and there are many of his personal favorites amongst these....to be heard in both rooms. this should heighten your expectations..and you definitely won't be disappointed as LOWTON goes from strength top strength.

a final reminder for anyone travelling: a stopover is a must and within easy reach of the venue, are both TRAVELODGE & PREMIER INN, the former also boasts a toby inns on site for bargain evening meals & breakfasts.....making it the perfect start to the weekend!

check out their websites for discounts and room availability.

You would not believe what's going on behind the scenes to get this venue back up to its rightful place in our soul community. Barry has sweated blood to make this a success and has probably had many sleepless nights trying to get it just right for you all. Also, without Mr and Mrs Rob Haigh I doubt there would be any order amongst the organised chaos. The DJ's are, to a man, committed to this venue, and to bring the best music for you to dance to. Two great dancefloors, both needing a lot of polishing with your feet. All that's missing, until 8pm tomorrow, is you, the punter, the soul fan, the dancer, the anorak. All welcome. The last one, in August, was buzzing, with something for everyone-oldies, newies, classics, rarities, obscurities, left fielders and memory jerkers. I'm proud to be involved, even in a small way.

This night tomorrow is a poignant one, as we lost a true soul brother last week, Rick Foster. Someone who has touch many of our lives, and his funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon. A sad time for the many who knew him, but a chance to celebrate his life with soul music. From 8 til 9 in the back room I'll be playing a homage to Ricks taste in soul, starting slow and building up to a frenzy, this is my take on music he exposed me to. All through the night we'll be slipping in dedications to Rick, with a bit of Sam Dees here, Otis Clay there etc. In the words of Tobi Legend

" Time will pass you by" so you might as well spend it, with friends, dancing the night away.

See you Friday.

A  very long day for us , indeed....tinged with sadness, having attended rick's funeral in burnley...a fitting send off and well attended...utmost respect shown....then onto lowton. great decor in the modern room and a vibrant atmosphere...not seen for a long time but in full effect last night, music being fluent...crossover swinging from one era to the next and all put together tastefully, by roger, steve.p, bob.h & andy...a busy floor all night....extra trimmings then for the seasonal soiree' coming up on december, 12th with some mecca magic to the fore, courtesy of the C.C. rider!!....but that's to come...

the main room in full flow and very busy...great sets throughout from wigan paul, baz, kev, bob and not forgetting the one and only, rob smith....when the man from notts rides into town, the dance floor ignites!. lots of encouragement again from first timers, very positive comments and with the new website set up, all future events and other connections will be available at the fingertips, via i-phone.

great to see, once again, loads of people taking pics which should appear on here and fb as well as some dvd footage...so many stayed until the end as well, even shouting for more after the 1a.m. finish

all in all, the attendances keep climbing up as the word spreads and the quality of the music is noted...we aim to do our very best to provide great guest dj's, but above all it's about getting feet on the dancefloor and your response has been amazing, so hats off and full credit to every single one of you for coming out to support a top venue...we look forward to seeing even more of you in december...at LOWTON...home of the "LOVESOULMUSIC" review   :hatsoff2:

I had another superb night at Lowton.  I just love my little trip over the Pennines, and it was fun picking up some reprobates along the way (Janette, Sandy & Joyann - thanks for your great company ladies  )

It was excellent to see the Modern Room busy again & there were plenty of new faces, as well as the old uns :D a great mix of folk enjoying the wonderful music on offer.  Only 1 teeny weeny request from me for next time, can you please make the dance floor a little bit darker in places, and shed a little light at the back of the room.   I adore what you guys have done to this room, & the slight adjustment to the lighting would make it just perfect :hatsoff2:

I didn't spend as much time as I would have liked in the main room, but whenever I did go in there I had a good old shuffle (or a natter!). It was great to catch up with friends, and fab to see young faces enjoying themselves too.

Cheers Baz & co, and all the deejays for giving us another great Lowton      It's one of my favourite events on the Calender

Till December

Hi Ali

I'll have a word with the lighting technicians, either that or I'll just drag the dancefloor to the back of the room that should sort it :D. Thanks for your feedback and support, it's very much appriciated, having people like you at Lowton makes it all worthwhile..

Luv Baz x

It was a great night Baz. Looks like you have put Lowton back on the map, and it's close to home. Did not get chance to have a catch up as you were busy.

Don't forget to give me a buzz this week.

All the best
