BURY TOWN HALL REVIVAL Details

Bury Town Hall Revival Reunion

One of the North West’s most iconic venues is holding a TWO ROOM SOUL NIGHT OUT on SATURDAY OCTOBER 25th

Memories of some of the great soul nights and all-nighters held there will be relived when people walk through the doors of this much loved venue, frequented by Soulies from all over the North of England, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Staffordshire, the North East, Wales, Scotland and the South

Going through the double sets of doors to be greeted by the superb main room with its large raised stage, dimly lit seating areas and fabulous wooden dancefloor, surrounded by the sounds that made Bury a must visit venue over the years, will make everyone realise how good it a Northern Soul venue this was and still is.

Back for one night only, with two rooms, featuring Northern Soul classics, current plays, a touch of Motown and R&B favourites with the tempo firmly on the up in the main room, all brought to you by quality DJ’s with an eye on the dancefloor, including Soul in the Sun Supremo, Eddy Emondson, Bury regulars, Bob Hinsley, Mick Howard and Baz Maleady, along with Radcliife Civic Hall DJ, Robbo and Lowton Civic Hall resident Les Harrison.

Upstairs, the Modern Room, brings you ON THE REAL SIDE featuring a great selection of Soulful 70’s and 80’s tunes from special guest Steve Plumb together with a special showcase of 70’s Mecca memories from Blackpool’s Bryan Wakelin. Add to that modern sets from Bob Hinsley and ‘Soul Train’s Tony Shawcross and you have a must visit Modern Soul night.

The night runs from 8pm till 2am with a late bar and admission is only £7 on the door.

Make it a date and make sure you don’t miss this great North West Soul Night out.

WOW!...what a fabulous place with loads of great memories attached, fantastic music and dancefloors, anyone who has never been before, but intent on finding out what it's all about, will not fail to be knocked out by this classic ballroom...it really is stunning!

a top notch line-up of dj's who know their stuff..it's an extra date in the diary for me but welcome nonetheless, in a historic town, famous for it's black pudding, steam railway and formidable soul nights & all-nighters....great to see ROBBO in amongst the spinners, this man has some seriously amazing tunes in his box and knows how to put a set together, and soul-in-the-sun maestro EDDY EDMONDSON, bringing his brand of music to the turntables that make the trips abroad so successful every year...and a strong presence where the LOVESOULMUSIC review is concerned, from LOWTON. this might be a one-off, but we'll be turning back the clock to bury's heyday to bring you the best sets from talented dj's to ensure you have a great saturday night out in east lancs!.  :hatsoff2:

Even though Lancashire was subject to a significant boundary reform in 1974 which removed Liverpool and Manchester with most of their surrounding conurbations to form part of the metropolitan counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester respectively, I look forward to some dancing and lively geographical debate at this splendid venue.

:D Haha nice one Dan, though being 'sweet 16' through that process meant as I was still too young to drive.....I couldn't give a toss, lol!  But remember my 21st 'do' at Bury Town Hall as awesome like it was yesterday, so a revisit is LONG overdue!

P.S. Isn't St Helens in Merseyside?!lol   :P

It does not matter where it is as Bury Town Hall is well and truly on the soul map. It went away for a few years, but it's back next Saturday for a two room packer of top quality soul music. Which we all love, wherever we are from.

See you all next Saturday.

Yeah should be a good aerobic workout, zipping up and down the stairs to hear the sounds on offer in both rooms.Just over a week to go and only 3 miles from my front door, can't be bad!!!!

You lucky Fellow as Leroy Hutson would say, that's another tune just gone in the play box. Not too bad for me though only 30mins away. That won't break my heart - as Mr Womack would tell us!

This is going to be good next Saturday.

the only "boundries" we'll be pushing here, are the musical ones, as was bury's reputation previously and will be reasserted in just 6 days time.....yes, it's getting closer...haven't been to bury itself for well over 12 months, but got to know quite few people there outside of the scene...love the market...one of the best in europe but the venue itself is tremendous..remember last time we were there, kenny burrell and keith money were on the same bill...so that tells you how long ago that was!. looking forward to this now with great anticipation.

Saw this on Sky News today entitled We've Got Soul:

“A small independent film called Northern Soul has proved to be a surprise hit thanks to a social media campaign by avid fans of the 1970s craze.

The movie was only intended to be shown in a few venues but will now be shown in more than 125.

It centres around two friends from a northern town whose lives change forever when they discover Northern Soul.

This was a craze which started in industrial northern towns like Bury, Bolton, Blackburn and Burnley in the 70s where working-class kids nurtured an underground soul movement inspired by American pop and Motown.

Elaine Constantine, who wrote and directed the film, spent 10 years bringing the story to the screen. She had to re-mortgage her house, and friends and family pitched in to help her realise her dream.

She says she lived and breathed soul music and the scene after first discovering it at Bury Town Hall youth club around 1976.”

Funny how things work out, watching the film tonight in Wigan and will be back at Bury Town Hall on Saturday….. and they say, 'it all goes around and around'

I can feel the atmosphere from here. It's been a long time since a soul night was advertised at Bury Town Hall, and it's here next Saturday. Two rooms of wall to wall soul music.

It will be one of them occasions where, if you go it will be a brilliant night , if you don't you will regret it as it could be a one off.

Can't wait for ROBBO's set Rob, I know everytime he was on at Bury he went down a storm, some great tunes in his box both, biggies and underplayed stuff, he's been the instigator of some big reactivations over the past few years through his own plays and bending the ears of certain other dj's.........point in case

just 3 days to go now, all djs got their boxes packed ready to go and they know what they're gonna play, hopefully there'll be plenty of requests and plenty of satisfied soulies making this magnificent revival truly successful and memorable....A reminder, there's loads of parking over the road from the venue and i think you can park on the street up to a certain point, possibly metered but perhaps not after 7pm. 2 fantastic dancefloors up & down, highly polished, so we would ask, as the management would..NO TALC PLEASE!...just lots of good quality shoes!!...KTF

Box's mainly packed for the modern room. Just a couple of deliberations prior to final choice, do you pack it, don't you pack it. So many top 70's and 80's tunes to hit the floor at Bury for what will be the revival of all revivals.

See you Saturday.

Been down to Bury Town Hall today to check out the facilities and the place looks better than I remember. Main hall has been decorated, the floor is polished and all is looking superb. Can't wait to hear the 'sounds of soul' resonating round the room on Saturday night. The Peel room upstairs is laid out, ready and waiting for the soulful sounds of the 70's and 80's to compliment the plush suroundings.

Everyone I speak to is buzzing about Saturday, can't wait now.

Baz it was a great night, and what an opening night it was. Big up to yourself, Brian and the team for having the balls to bring back this iconic venue. The place even seemed better than I remember it.

Enjoyed playing the modern room to a packed crowd who were very appreciative towards the different levels of music on offer. Mainly 70's and 80's was the order of the day. It's always great DJing when you can play in demand 70's like Barrett Strong - Is it true, and then drop Marvin Gaye - Mercy, Mercy, Me with a reL appreciation of soul music.

lets hope you are going to carry this on into 2015 as the venue and crowd deserve Bury to be back on the map.
