Just back from the Soul Sessions.

Playlist as requested but just to say what a great turn out and yet another superb selection of music and lots of fat chewing about this great music we love. Even had a themed set from Sid Clayton with multiple variations on the "Woman To Woman" saga and every tune a gem. Complete with inadvertent out of context narrative from Hammy!! (You had to be there!)

The night is really taking shape now and big props to Steve and Brian for sticking to what they believe in.

Cheers!

Milt Matthews - When Kids Rule The World - Bryan
Luther Ingram - Do You Love Somebody - Koko
Bloodstone - You Know We've Learned - London
James Hazlehurst - I Won't Die - SWAR
Lewis Kirton - Something Special - Alston LP
Four Tops - When Tonight Meets Tomorrow - ABC LP
Little Beaver - Little Girl Blue - Cat
Madeleine & Monticellos - Binding Ring Of Gold - De-vel

Thankyou to those of you who came whether you simply came to listen or  for the chance to spin a few tunes, what a fabulous night, and yes I feel it is growing steadily, musically for me it was one of the top nights ever, to hear so much diverse soul music all under one small roof was mind blowing, not withstanding the fact we are in the middle of a Northern Soul stronghold. Still quite a few high profile locals missing though!

Superb sets from our guests Hammie ( Yes thats right  the same bloke who has just about every Northern Soul 45) and no he didnt play Northern just a superb set of soul, Tank, Pete Mattock, Trev, Carl and Sid, in the end we just simply gave out half hour slots as they arrived, barely had any time left to play ourselves, but the music spoke for itself very loud and proud.

Playlists going up shortly.

See you all on the 2nd November for round 5.

Great end to the weekend that, thanks again to Jem for the superb kit (will get you over there to play some of your hidden gems one month mate) and to those who turned out...sure went home very happy from what we could see.

Good of the previous night's entertainment to leave their comfy chair, bookcase and lamp etc on the stage to create a living room feel to the night  ...A local "Jim Wray" type lounge is perhaps emerging but how great to hear the deeper soul alongside other soul all in one room.

Yes come on you lot..if you're going to the trouble of posting a play list then at least get it in the right thread :D

Cheers, Steve

There's only one ex pat here, trying to get anyone from Brum to travel 1 hour down the motorway to a soul doo is impossible, you would be most welcome to pop over and play us some tunes!

Wow ! Brian that's now two people I know who've heard of Preston, 2006 mix is a goodun' but this version has a littlemore Oomph courtesy of the respested Dutch Blues/RnB band Fat Harry & The Fuzz licks. A proper black southern soul record, don't know how this will go down with the trendy Mario Bondi wine bar type aficionado's though ?  :wicked:

Looks as if your SS sessions have become a beacon of light in a sea of northern mediocrity, you need to dig some oldies like Lola out ole' chap
