Looking forward to this Martin, even more so as I'm making this my last Guest DJ set. I'd better dig deep, they say; your only as good as your last job. So my last set will probably be the one I'm remembered for! Bridgey

It's a real shame that you're hanging your records up Ian, but an absolute honour that it will be with us.

I really hope that we can give you the send off that you deserve mate.

With this venue having a great reputation & the residents playing OVO, it always makes it easy to sort out a possible play list for the night. There will be the odd record here & there played before my Guest Set, but I think that makes for a great night. The other great thing about this venue, which I have DJ'd twice before is: All the regular soulies love to hear the forgotten sounds. The main thing is I'm not up against DJs before me with a box of 400 x £10 boots playing all the big hitters (like: Gene Toones, Tomangoes, Rita & The Tiras etc, etc trying to make a name for themselves, hence one of the many reasons why I've decided to call it a day. You have the music policy spot on Martin at Inner Soul.... Stay with it mate. I'm so looking forward to Guest DJ-in at Inner Soul Club, it's a pity other venues don't have the same music policy & DJ decorum!! Regards, Bridgey

Thanks Ian I know exactly what you mean, but it's a pity that the bootleg scene has driven you and many other good DJ's away.

We'll just continue to do what we're doing for as long as wev'e got the time, will and energy to keep doing it.

Top weekender DJ, brilliant collection and always did it the right way. Don't think anyone could argue with that mate.

Looking forward to seeing you all on the 22nd.

There's not much to get excited about re the scene, yes lots on, all playing the same old same old, coukd go to them I guess, its like listening to the radio, same tunes over and over BUT INNER SOULis different. so I know where ill be this sat evening. With a bunch of likeminded people bopping away to some cracking tunes guaranteed to get your feet moving up on the floor. One of the highlights of the soul month for me. see you there but be careful who you tell cause Inner Soul is our little secret and we like it just the way it is.

A refreshing change from the same old thing, these residents put in 100% into this club and not off running or promoting other venues. One is hard enough never mind two or three. Like it has said before keeping this club Fresh and real (OVO). Sorry to hear Bridgey is calling it a day. Keep it Real. Dave

So it's just over 24 hours to Bridgeys last time behind the Decks.

It's going to be a special night for a dedicated collector of good northern soul and one of the top DJ's at the Bridlington and Scarborough weekenders.

Helluva lot going on in and around Sheffield tomorrow night, but judging by the interest and the calls I've had this week we could be in for another packer.

Really looking forward to tonight: inner soul never fails to deliver! Always a great night: hope to see lots there tonight despite the rest on - this is a real northern soul night and is highly respected and regarded as the place to hear some absolutely top music with a great crowd. Can't wait!!!

Looking forward to Glyn arriving in York just after lunch time.

This afternoon, I guess we will be going through most of what we will be playing tonight.  We have been on the phone to each other all week..... Should we play this?  Should we play that?  etc, etc  Getting a little excited now, really looking forward to this one.

Setting off from York about 6.30pm ish.

Regards,

Bridgey

It's hard to think of anything to say about Inner Soul that I and others haven't said before. It's easy to churn out the same platitudes and comments and that happens time after time on this site - but the reality is that Inner Soul for me has it all; the right ingredients to make the best northern soul night around currently. Last night again was top notch - music, people, promoters, residents - excellent!

Where do I start.....

Got there just before 8 and it was filling up nicely.  Dave was just finishing his warm up set (sorry we didn't get there earlier enough to hear it), then the residents of Chris, Roy & Martin playing some brilliant sounds including mixing in a lot of "Forgotten Records" we just don't get to hear nowadays.  They definitely set the scene just perfectly and made it so easy for us to follow getting the "Pure True Soulies" filling the floor and wanting more.......

Then it was my final Guest DJ set which I invited my best mate "Glyn Hanford" to join me on the night, so Martin kindly give us an hour and half (instead of the normal Guest hour).  I will be posting the full play list on the "Soul Source Playlist Thread" later.  It really seemed to go to quick, but we got in as many as we could in the slotted time.

Chris Cooper mentioned in an earlier post (prior to the night), jokingly about keeping this place a secret and only telling the right people.....  He is 100% spot on.  This is a "Gem Soul Venue" that has got it right in every aspect.  The main thing that sticks out to me and the regulars of Inner Soul Club is the music policy on OVO.  The residents and regulars love to hear those forgotten underplayed oldies that most venues are scared of playing.

After our set.... Chris, Roy & Martin continued with some great sounds (including records both Glyn & myself had never heard.  You know your at a great venue when that happens).  We stayed to Martins very last record and we are definitely travelling back down the M1 next month to enjoy another superb night.

Keep up the great work Martin & Kath.  You have got this venue "RIGHT".

Best Regards,

Bridgey

Really difficult to add to what's aleady been said only that at times promoting can be a hard and thankless task.

But not on a night like this.......

Although a good few regulars were at other one off events, the turnout was amazing. The club packed with well over 100 people, who all came out to honour One of our favourite Inner Soul DJ's play his final spot.

I just cannot remember a time when I've heard so many big, quality tunes played in a 90 minute set, it was absolutely fantastic.

As Patto said the night was full of emotion, more so at the end when everyone realised that they wouldn't get the chance to hear one of the most passionate, dedicated and hard working DJ's play behind those decks again.

Thanks Bridgey....... for all of those special times!

A big, big thank you to all who came to see us last night, from far and wide.....what a night!

Unique old school atmosphere and dancefloor, and a nice warm welcome from the lovely Kath make this a top night for your diaries.

Amazing records from all the spinners and especially Mr Bridge and Glyn who gave us all a real treat, bang, bang, bang, one after the other!! Tremendous stuff.

See you all next month,  27th December

Cheers, Chris

What an absolutely cracking night. A packed house and a brilliant atmosphere. There was only one thing better than the atmosphere and that was the music.

We arrived just after 8 and were treated to one after the other of brilliant sounds untilwe left at 12.45.

We have never heard so many great tunes played out at a soul night. A big well done and respect to all that made it happen.
