Well just to let everyone know that the 22nd is looking to be an even bigger success than "The Corner Pockets" re-launch last month, and if you want a top night of REAL Across The Board, Northern Soul and Motown music you don't have to look any farther, a cracking venue great bar prices (and i'm putting myself in this statement) a quality DJ line up.

So very much looking forward to my return visit that's sure to be a belter of a night.

In the meantime Mr or should i say Monsieur Wood is back from his French adventure but i think all the gaelic influences my have been just a little too much for him.

imagesfrenchman_zps3bddef27.jpg

Avez-Vous any Northern Soul records s'il vous play?

Hi all,

just a quick post to say this month's event is really gathering pace, feedback is coming in as fast as an old time Wigan stomper.

Once more looking forward to getting behind the decks again and rest assured each and every record will be dance floor orientated and dancer led.

More to follow but once again internet connection problems, perhaps It's the colder weather?

Oh no don't mention Christmas.....please!

What ever happened to Christmas starting in December? i'm surprised that advent calendars don't have at least 114 windows to open then they could cover all the days upto Christmas (as you may be well aware Christmas now starts on September 1st and finishes on Boxing Day when the sale season commences and you realise that every present you have purchased can now be bought for half the price that you payed for it) and remember how do you know it's Christmas?..... because the Easter Eggs are in the shops!

Talking of records i was DJ'ing on Friday at " The Rotherham Soul Train" at the Transport Club and i was shocked at how dirty some of my discs were and need far more than a wipe over with an anti-static cloth so the carbon brush and proper record cleaner will be coming into action.

So yeah i'm well on target at the moment but as we all know anything can happen and it normally does.

I'm pleased to report that my preparations for this event are well in hand.

I've decided to draw-up a playlist and to that end I have procured a sheet of paper, written 'PLAYLIST' across the top and double underlined it in red . . . . . . . . . !!

This night is quickly becoming the most talked about event in the area, a top class venue hand picked DJ line up and great bar prices and of course quality Soul music that is 100% dance floor driven, is it any wonder why "The Corner Pocket" is the place to be on the 22nd!

Thanks Frank a top night assured and as the fantastic video shows this from last months event and as always another cinematic tour de force from the lovely Sue (aka Miss T)

And if you want to hear all these great tunes and more Saturday at "The Corner Pocket" is your event great venue, great crowd, great music, and great bar prices.

And assured of a play in Paul's set (according to Woody who knows these things) will be giving this classic a spin the great

Frankie Beveley & The Butlers "Because Of My Heart" on the original Fairmount release.

And more tunes of the same calibre and remember "The Corner Pocket's" music policy is 100% dance floor driven!

Russ

Oh and i've a copy too on the same original label....honest

B sides a good one too, this is a more recent version with Maze the one on the Fairmount recording is a bit slower and not as jazzy.

index_zps2c35f768.jpg Well said Tony,

And just to echo those points again, a superb attendence especicaly on a very competitive night with other events being held in the area, every DJ' was bang on the mark.

Woody started the night off with a Northern Soul pot pouri that saw that dance floor just start to get some early dancers moving to Smokey Robinson And The Miricles "If You Can't Want" and his new but always danceable editions to the collection that get an early run out.

I follwed on and did part one of my doube shift in the abbsence of Derek G ,

Ado aka Tony A was next man on and went about business in a no frills no messing manner and did a top hour of club classic with a few curve ball tunes and one out there play that i haven't heard since the Rotherham Assembly Rooms was a weekly event and that track being JJ Callier's "Pusherman" well done Ado, the dance floor loved it, and was bouncing from this point on!

Paul Newton was to follow and kept very much in the same musical groove for the first three quarters of his set treating the dancefloor to a torrent of class old school oldies from the top clubs of the day (and spinning a few discs i was fancying to give a play later on....great minds eh Paul!) the latter section of Paul's set was more modern soul based but as Ado before him dance floor space was now at a premium and The Corner Pocket has a pretty large dance floor, giving you some idea of the quality spots that were being played.

Woody came back on deck duty for his second stint and was into his stride again from the very first record and kept it that way, mixing a spectrum of Soul music together and throwing in some pounding R'n'B dancers that are fast becoming sort after DJ must haves, a well rounded set that shows why this fella is way ahead of the Northern Soul/R'n'B game with new musical finds and re-activations.

I finished of the last part of my double shift of the night and the last spot of the evening and would like to personally  thank everyone who stayed through my "Mary Celeste period" a management decision might i add and not an error on the organisers part but never the less your loyalty was greatly apprecaiated you made this night what it was.....a fantasic success!

We're back in January so look frorward to seeing you all again then,

Go Steady

Hi Everybody,

Special thanks to our Guest DJ's Paul, ably assisted by Ado & Russ, you did the business Guys, every one of you played blinding spots, everyone of us had a ball behind the decks. Well said Tony,

I forgot to do the same at first then needed to do a recap but what a FANTASTIC "Corner Pocket" support team busy front of house and behind the scenes.

Oh and a great record that you've now added to DW's collection I too have a copy on the British released issue, a class slice of Philly inspired soul.
