Dj profile of Ad-Lib Club November 22nd guest JON GODDEN

"I have been involved with mod scene now in some form or another for nearly 25 -30 years in the UK .I started dj`ing in Brighton and then moved to Cambridge a few years ago. I have dj`ed at Jelly Roll (Peterborough) Hard as Nails,Mousetrap,Crossfire,Beat Goes On(Birmingham),Dreamsville Mod weekender and Hoochie Coochie (Nottingham) . Have done the Oslo (Norway) Mod weekenders as well and i am looking forward to DJ`ing ...in Teramo (Italy) in December for the Underground Blues gang . I have been heavily involved in 2 Local nights here in Cambridge called Ska N B and Shake"n"Soul, we have aimed at getting younger people into these nights for the music itself but hopefully also the scene . I am really looking forward DJ`ing at the Ad-Lib Club as it will also be my first time in Lincoln

...

As a young mod I used to spend my Saturdays afternoons at memory lane second hand record shop in Northampton listening to the racks of motown and sixties bands in this tiny shop spending all my weekly pocket money here.
I kept collecting throughout my teenage years adding some northern to my mod standards.
I never considered playing out until a friend of mine wanted a dj for his mod wedding do, I accepted and it went down so well that me and my mates thought we should run a night and we formed a collective under the name of the soul preservation society , we played many venues across hull and scooter rallies for a number of years playing mainly northern soul and mod classics. Around this time I was starting to listen to more rhythm & blues and a visit to the legendry hideaway club at its original venue behind Piccadilly station blew me away . I now started sourcing mainly r&b 45,s . I was starting to introduce more of these new finds into my sets and we started a residency at the lamp club in the heart of the city we were getting a healthy crowd of local mods, soulies, scooterists and students and my sets were now predominantly r&b this club was ideal to experiment a more early gritty sound to an appreciative audience until the club suddenly closed down . so the hunt started to find a new venue for our sound. This takes up to two years ago when we started up mojo r&b club here in Hull. we,ve been going for two years now had some top drawer dj,s grace the decks and the raw energy this venue creates fits perfectly with our music policy.
Over the last few years I,ve been asked to play similar clubs such as the dearne and the melting pot, this will be my third time at adlib and an absolute pleasure it is . This venue is as close as it gets to an authentic 60,s cellar club , and I advise anyone who has never been before put it on your `to do list`. see you all in November, glenn.

This event is now SOLD OUT.Thanks for all your support of the club and especially for the support of our "Back to the Roots" music policy paying homage to the early sounds that grew into the underground r&b/soul allnighter scene.of the mid-sixties.

The smell of a steam train, the glimpse of a stocking top,6 gallons of petrol for 19/6d, the music was just a bonus! Hello fellow Ad-libbers,this is Clive Read looking forward to playing a few tunes, hopefully for your pleasure, on Saturday night. After flirting with the soul scene in the early 70,s I returned about 15 years ago and have been D.J.,ing at various venues ever since. After a "Road to Damascus" moment at,of all places, the Prestatyn Weekender, courtesy of Hoss,Joe Dutton and the Hideaway lads,I became more embroiled in the R&B way of thinking. As a result I,ve ended up here for a second time! Looking forward to it,see you all in the cellar.

                                 Clive.
