Cant add much to what has already been said just bring it on.

Cant be many venues who can showcase what the scene is all about musically as charitysoul is doing here at the manhattan.

Just check out the dj line ups at the top of the page.

Whatever your taste in this great scene of ours is catered for ( I think ) guess you'll let us know if anything missing lol.

For those of you who were in the roots room at the last one rest assured you wont need your thermals !!!!

One week to go so for anyone who has not been before can I just say make the effort you wont be disappointed.

And please remember the reason for these events is to raise money to help the prof find the cure for prostate cancer, and all monies raised goes to him.

The djs travel from far and wide and don't take a penny, same as everyone involved with charitysoul.

So please support us, have a great time and know that everything goes into trying to find the cure for this terrible disease.

Cheers for now Tony

Having a fantastic response in reserving tickets, just so you know how it works,

Your names will be on a list with the guy on the door taking the money, so just point out your name which will be on the reserved and guaranteed entry list and pay your £7, easy peesy lemon squeezy,

Would also like to point out that the Roots Room is the smaller of the 3 rooms so if you require a table and comfy chairs then it would be advisable to arrive early and don't forget there is a bottle bar with drinks promotion throughout the event in the Roots Room, other drinks can be purchased at the 2 main bars within the venue.

Just 1 more week to go and can I say once again thanks for the terrific response to dekka's Roots Room and to all the DJ's who are travelling from all over the country to take part for this terrific charity.

Getting close now Dekka , just planning getting everything over next week ready for the big day , was actually speaking with Mr Manship today and he's quite excited about being given a free rein in wot he's gonna play , should be quite interesting to hear wot he's gonna play , considering the no of records he's heard , and then there's all the other DJs in the other 2 rooms aswell as yours , so all in all its gonna be a fantastic day of soul music of the highest order , and that's wot we at charity soul aim to acheive at our events !! Looking forward to it so much , wow just bring it on !! See u there , cheers Toc

For those looking for accomodation, Rudding Holiday Park might be a good option . Previously used as the Emmerdale film set , there's self catering Norwegian style wooden lodges around the lake and traditional cottages sleeping 2-7 from as little as £60 per night per unit .

The past 3 events the main room and the modern room have been chocker with a great atmosphere in each room , this time Dek I think your roots room will have caught up with the other 2 , I can just see a fantastic 3 rooms full of peeps dancing , enjoying themselves knowing that every penny raised will be going to Normans laboratory and let me tell you that after chatting with him on the radio last Sunday , the work he is doing is incredible and one day he will find that cure and just to let you all know that some of the funding coming from charity soul is actually funding a hi tech piece of equipment called a genetic cutter which splits genes in the hope it takes out the faulty genes thus stopping the tumour growing !! Fantastic !! We've only been going 18 months and we are helping to find a cure for cancer already !!! It's a fantastic effort we have created and long may it continue so come on guys , come and support the team in finding the cure , remember the saying

" let's fight cancer together "

Hopefully see you all there , atb Toc

Top night all round, spent most of our time in the modern & "roots" rooms.

Would have travelled up just for the John Manship hour, Just love the Tuts Sutton chune.

And followed by a classy hour from Pat Bleasdale... also top marks to the Hull RnB guys.

Shame there wasn't more folk

in the Roots room but hey ho...

Thanks guys

The 'Roots Room' is niche and deliberately so , consequently limited/no appeal to some who solely embrace the golden oldies and modern classics . That said at times the room was quite busy , at others it waned (as did the modern room). The mass market appeal is the top 100 northern, however and rightly so the Roots Room is getting the plaudits and can only grow in popularity to those who enjoy the hard core mod , rnb and beat together with an injection of rare and underplayed, x-over etc . Great to see a fair few travelling great distances to make the Roots Room their music of choice with some cracking and diverse sets from the djs delivering the music policy in buckets .Spent a bit of time in the other Rooms and great to see everybody enjoying their music of choice . Well done Dekka and the Charity Soul team. Best bit , seeing the £7k cheque being handed over to the Professor so he and his team can carry on with their amazing work to find the much needed cancer cure .

Well I've just about recovered from the 10 hours music extravaganza that was the Roots Room at Charity Soul last Saturday. 10 hours of pure bliss right from the start and on through to the finish. I can't thank the DJ's enough for providing such a musical feast. This was our first real attempt after the inaugural one in November to really get the Roots Room on the map and I think we delivered in bucket loads. Yes over the course of a 10 hour marathon they may be dips in the numbers in the room but overall myself and Andy were very pleased at the turn out and I want to thank everyone who not only attended the Roots Room but the event in general. I want to give a special mention to Cheryl and her friends and to thank her for dancing during my set and wow what a dancer, it was a joy to watch. Also to the North East boys Steve, Deka, Dicka, Brian and kathleen (who will be taking over the Roots Room along with Hoss on May 30th for a North East Showcase) and also the Hull contingent including Martyn Bird and John Parker who will be joining us behind the decks at our October 24th event. Just to reiterate the policy of the Roots Room is 6t's/RnB/Mod/Beat, however, over a 10 hour period there is always room for some quality rare soul and a little x over from some quality DJ's.

Hope you can all join us at our next event on March 28th (see soul source events guide for details) for some more Roots Room at Charity Soul.

Thanks for the invite Deka to play in the Roots room this was my second visit. I got to the venue early, about 3.15 to find 2 empty decks and a empty room who needs a prompt so I was straight in there playing some well underplayed Motown to my wife Mel and the odd punter who stuck their head around the door The room was not empty around now so I played one of my usual uptempo soulful funky sets. I did enjoy myself and I hope you did. Thanks for the generous applause.

Sunday I DJin in York great weekend then Monday I got a phone call from an ex work colleague telling me that one of the girls who I worked quite closely with had died on previous day. That is me knocked for six,Only 48 married with 2 young boys died of Breast cancer and the cancer had affected some other organs, It all happened so quick RIP my friend xx

I'D LIKE TO THANK  DEKKA, GLENYS AND ANDY FOR THEIR HOSPITALITY AND THE INVITE TO DJ IN THE 'ROOTS ROOM'. ALL THE DJS DID THEIR BIT FOR A VERY WORTHY CAUSE. THE RANGE OF  MUSIC WAS WIDE SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY AND A LOT OF LESSER KNOWN AND UNDERPLAYED TUNES. LOOKING FORWARD TO RETURNING MAY 30TH WITH THE 'TYNESIDE FOUR' DICKA, DEKA, STEVE H AND HORSE PLUS DEKKA.
