Just been reading the 'stuck for choice' thread regarding multiple events all on the same night in Sheffield . Refreshing therefore looking at the other events (or lack of ) on here for 3rd May , credit to all other promoters in avoiding staging and promoting any conflicting events in the whole of Yorkshire and the North East . I'm mighty impressed with their integrity rather than being opportunist driven . Hopefully, as a result, the Charity Soul alldayer at Leeds Rhino's on 3rd May will be a packer with a record breaking amount raised to fund the cancer cure research at York Uni. With 3 rooms, a great venue and tremendous dj lineup this is destined to be a memorable occasion.

Looking forward to djing at a charity event in the roots room. Hopefully all will support a good cause, and not to mention 3 rooms, so something for every soul taste.

Busy weekend for me, at Wetherby djing on the Saturday night, then Leeds on the Sunday. What more could you ask for.

See you all there

There appeared to be considerable interest for the charity event.

Hi Dale

Parking in the large car park back of the south stand will be available, anyone unsure there will be security on the gates so just ask them, alternatively, car parking available on streets surrounding the stadium.

Went to the Leeds Rhinos game last night, unfortunately Leeds lost, however, the Charity Soul team were invited to the Lewis Jones suite and to view the other rooms once again as a final check. I must say this is the most impressive venue I have ever seen, all those who are coming to support us, prepare to be amazed.

Here's a little info on Lee Miller for anyone unsure who he is, this is taken from an interview he did a year or so ago

I first started playing records at my local youth club, in the early 1980’s, at the ripe old age of 10 or 11. Playing a selection of sounds that I deemed to be Mod – 2 Tone, The Jam, Small Faces and The Who, and as my knowledge grew, Tamla Motown, Stax, John Lee Hooker and Kent Compilations.

Forward to 1985/6, Rob Bailey and I used to run local nights, using two hi-fi systems and speakers.I think my first “big” Mod club spot was somewhere like Drummonds in 1988.

I’ve since had the privilege of being part of the New Untouchables DJ Collective, playing my vinyl delights to dance-floors all over the world and at many major MOD weekenders across Europe. I currently, not on my own though, promote a couple of Mod events, Getting’ To The Point in Leeds & Dreamsville in Lowestoft.

Top 10 MOD Tracks of All Time: in no particular order

1.The Capitols – Cool Jerk

2.Billy Hawks – O’Baby (I Think I’m Losing You)

3.Herbie Goins & The Nightimers – Crusin’

4.The Untamed – My Baby Is Gone

5.B.B. King – Think It Over

6.The Blue Jays – (It Depends On The) Point Of View

7.Dionne Warwick – Walk On By

8.Junior Wells – Snatch It Back, And Hold It

9.Jimmy Smith – Stay Loose

10.The Mohawks – Beat Me ‘till I’m Blue

Anyone unsure who Neil Lee is, here's some info (taken from ad-lib may 30th event)

Guest dj profile.Neil Lee.

Got into the Mod scene during the Brit Pop era of the mid ninetees.Listening to Blur etc led me onto The Jam and the rest is history.
Started attending Mod events in the late ninetees;Underground,New Untouchables and European rallies.
A major part of the Mod scene for me has been clubbing and attended most clubs during the last 15 years with Hideaway,Shotgun and Pow Wow in my opinion being the best clubs of that era.
Love most music that is considered Mod with R&B,British Beat,Jazz and Latin being my personal favourites and what I collect.
Enjoy listening to new sounds but have to admit love classic rally records.
Some tracks I will be likely to play:
Billy Hawks- O'Baby im losing you,
J.C.Davis - Faznecky
Bobby Bland - 36 22 36
Herbie Goins - Cruisin'
Otis Clay - Three is a couple
Little Luther - Eenie Meenie Minnie Moe
Billy Poole - Them Blues
Sherri - Taylor - He's the one that rings my bell.
Teddy Mack - Hey hey,Gypsy Woman

Anyone who doesn't know me, here's some info

Born in Barnsley, grew up seeing the mods in Barnsley in the late 60's on their scooters and all I wanted ever since then was a scooter, got my first scooter in the mid 70's and the first thing I did was 'modded' it up, it was pre revival time and I loved every minute of it, music influences then was Northern Soul, Ska and revival mod, sold my scoot in the 80's, then almost 20 years later bought my 1966 SX200 Lambretta which is my pride and joy.

Frequented Allnighters such as Keele, Winsford, Prestwich, Middleton, etc and especially Burnley on Friday nights. My love of RnB was sparked at Middleton in the down stairs room and Burnley, although Burnley was more uptempo early 60's soul.

My love of British RnB/beat began at an early age and from the revival time, I'm now an avid collector of rare British RnB/beat mainly pre 1966. I've Played out my British RnB/Beat from various venues around the country from London to Berwick and soon to be in France.

Frequent Mod venues such as 'The pelican club', 'Ad-Lib', 'New Untouchables','Getting to the Point' etc rather than Northern Soul events these days.

Joined Charity Soul UK last year with a brief of creating and building a third room which is now known as 'Dekka's Roots Room'

The main theme of the room is 5t's/6t's RnB, 6t's Soul, Ska, British RnB/beat based on the early 6t's The Flamingo, La Discotheque, The Scene, The Marquee Club, twisted Wheel(Brazenose Street) etc hence the term 'Roots'

Amazing day for the sheer numbers that flooded into Leeds Rhinos for this most impressive 4 roomed event which delivered the high expectations in buckets . It really was something for everybody . Dekka's Roots Room was very very special and a credit to all the djs who pulled out all the stops with exceptional, appropriate tunes and the large numbers who made it their room of choice . Predominately Mod, 6ts rnb, British Beat , a touch of ska a bit of quality rarer northern and underplayed 7ts gems , a new release or so ...a magic combination which worked so well for all.

Well done all . It was a full, big room.

So many highlights. No negatives .

Off on our travels so hopefully will remember what I played early doors then double decking with Dale then Dekka . Will post later.

May 3rd - Charity Soul UK Day. It was indeed. Raising invaluable money for Professor Maitland and his team.

It was indeed Andy a fantastic day for charity soul , amazing the numbers , every room was just brilliant and everybody did their part in making it a day to remember , off for some breakfast now as we have to strip down the equipment and dance floors , never mind it was all worth it. Here's to the next one here , oh forgot we are at the home of charity soul this afternoon at the kellingley club in knottingley for our bank holiday Monday alldayer , here's to another great day , cheers

Big well done TOC and everybody    , an absolutely fantastic day plus what a brilliant venue for a Soul all-dayer. To actually stay at the Headingley Carnegie Hotel and look out on the cricket field from square leg from our bedroom window is something I'll always remember

As you said TOC having places like this for playing a variety of Soul, takes the music genre to another level and out of the Working Mens club image.

The place was 'bangin' every room was full with soul lovers and it would be fantastic to hold another all-dayer at my favourite Rugby ground   still you can't have everything

All the dj's played some great music, including Mr INTERNATIONAL dj :wicked:

and so on to Kellingley

ps don't know if Martin did actually do the splits on the cricket square

Just had an email from Mike Warburton (Hideaway Club, Manchester ) who was one of the outstanding guest djs in Dekka's Roots Room ( weren't they all !). Mike's not on here and a man of not many words, he simply said ..'Really enjoyed doing it, the Roots room audience were definately up for it...'

People travelling from all over the country to support this event for this terrific cause, just want to personally thank everyone.

Not too sure of numbers because we were allowing people to pay on the door up until 8pm of which there were many, so we think near on a thousand people overall.

Fantastic response and many thanks.

Also thanks to all the players, Leeds Rhinos, Yorkshire Carnegie and also Leeds United for attending and showing your support.

Didn't get chance to speak to the professor much but what chance I did he was totally overwhelmed.

I want to personally thank all the people and DJ's who attended the Roots room, I too was overwhelmed with the response, many many thanks

All in all a great day and a day to be proud of

What a venue, impressive to say the least. Arrived very early to be pleasantly greeted by the security staff in the car park. Spent all of my time in Dekkas roots room having Dj'd from 5.00pm - 5.50pm. The music from the start was bang on, right up my street.

Went home really happy just like the others.

Thanks again for allowing to play a few tunes.

Was great to meet you Dave even if you did think I had come for job interview LOL, although, come to think of it I guess I was, especially being in such esteemed company as yourselves who DJ'd for me last night, after all, I'm just a collector and a punter who likes to spin a few records, so I regard it as a privilege to share the decks with you boys.

On this point I would like to say all Roots Room DJ's are invited on their merit and for how they can contribute to the main theme of the room and not because they are my mates, a point in case is yourself Dave who I didn't know until last night.

Hopefully we will be invited back to Headingley, in which case I will invite all DJ's who played in the Roots Room last night to DJ at the next one.

Thank you for the kind words, as you say all the Dj's contributed to the night and to a charity aiming to help fight the terrible "C".

Good luck with all your future gigs

Thanks Glenn, really appreciate you taking time out to give those words of encouragement.

And of course we have an 'Ad-Lib' showcase at our 24th of October event in Harrogate, so really looking forward to that as well as visiting ad-lib in October and November

Not sure what I can add really but will have a go.

Firstly so pleased for Dekka that all the hard work he puts into his roots room has come good. The roots room adds another dimension giving us soulies so much choice.

I spent a long time on the gate letting people know where all four rooms were etc so didn't get into any of the rooms till 9pm.

Found it so refreshing to mooch between the roots room, modern room, and the oldies room for an hour and half and just stand back and take in the atmosphere.

Every room was banging and everyone enjoying themselves, put a smile on my face.

Then spent 30mins in the motown/disco room again people just having a good time.

Double decked with Paul Atkinson in the modern room for the last hour once again the floor packed till the end.

So on behalf of all at charity soul would like to thank all who were involved in making this such a success ( too many to name )but most of all you soulies who turned up in the hundreds cos without you we couldn't make it happen. Heres to the next one.

For those of you in the St Helens area charity soul are holding a one room event at the home of the saints this coming sat please check it out on soul source.

Cheers Tony
