The Soul Shack Details

event-4245-0-78380800-1422908860_thumb.jThe Soul Shack. 32-46 King St, Alfreton, Derbyshire DE55 7DQ

7th February 2015 and the first Saturday of each month: Guest DJ for this month is Pete Neal

A great venue with a large room, 'overflow' dance floor and separate bar area. A relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, cheap bar, and good car parking (massive car park to the rear of the building)

Top DJs from around the UK will join us each month to play quality Northern, semi known, rarer and underplayed / forgotten vinyl from the 60s and 70s: If you like to listen to Northern Soul the way we used to and not overwhelmed with the same old tunes than why not pay us a visit? We would love to welcome you !

£3.50 - 8pm until 12.30 (or later!)

Chris Cooper: 07715 297239

Terry Westhead: 07970 559132

As icy as it may be outside we guarantee there's nothing cold about The Shack! A warm welcome, hot and sweaty when you start moving 'your feet to the sound of the beat' of those red hot tunes!

Had a great night last night. Pete Neal played some stuff that I hadn't heard for far too long. Love being able to play things away from the usual. Not everyone's cup of tea but deffo mine. People complain that they are fed up of hearing the same stuff week after week and we try to cater for those. Come along and see for yourselves. If you like what you hear we are here the First Saturday of the Month. If it's not for you then there's a plethora of other places that will welcome you. Wherever you may wander I hope you find your Soul, you are more than welcome to see if we are holding it for you XX

Great night Terry. Good atmosphere good music and good to catch up with a few friends that we haven't seen for ages.

As you said, not everyone's cup of tea but definitely not an underplayed, never played night. More like classic's and forgotten tunes that if they've been around a while, everyone would know.

My cup of tea and looking forward to next month.

Just had a walk in the Yorkshire air to refresh ourselves after a late night at the Soul Shack; 80+ through the doors which made for a great atmosphere: Chris Terry and our guest Pete Wadeson-Neal kept us absolutely well entertained to tunes that challenged our memories and our feet! If the top 500, across the board, RnB or whatever permutations of the Northern theme is your bag then the Shack isn't the place for you. Pure unadulterated Northern soul of the old style is what is delivered and will continue to entertain those who want something reminding them of what they fell in love with 40 years ago.

Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but the dancefloor and the "chin" saw action last night. Imaginations, Lorenzo Manley and Joan Moody summed it all up for me. Well worth the admisssion and well worth your time if you're a thinking man's soul man!

As for me, well the Soul Shack isn't your run of the mill commercial gig that plays to the crowd, we do play requests, obviously but we dont get that many. Its simple at the Shack and anybody thinking of coming should consider our music policy before doing so . It will save disappointment re your evening out. We play underplayed oldies, classic oldies, underplayed, and a sprinkling of rare, all (hopefully)on original vinyl. Covering the northern soul spectrum of the 60&70ts With music from the Wheel through to Cleethorpes and anything up to the early 80ts as long as it was a sound from the halcyon days of the Northern scene. We know that's not everybodies cup of tea, no but its ours and that's reflected in the music we play and the djs we choose. Most will have been around the scene for a long while and know what they are doing. We know its not a crowd puller and most will choose to go to the more popular nights but that's ok its not something we really worry about As long as we stick to what we do and continue to get support we will do it, why, because we love what we do, the great scene we are involved in and the music that helped shape our lives. Thanks to Pete Neal for sticking to our ethos, Thank you for your support at the Shack we really do appreciate it. See you next month. Guest dj is top bloke and dj from Inner Soul Sheffield, Mr Martin Smith.
