Not quite sure where to put this now, so anyway

Would just like to thank all the DJ's and the dancers who contributed to what has to be the best Roots Room to date, totally amazing sounds that just on coming. Great to see all the regulars to the room and was also great to see new faces who after a few tentative moments really through themselves into the whole experience of back to the Roots Soul and RnB.

Last update I had was that over £1000 and still counting was raised on the night overall. The generosity of all the people who travelled in such horrendous conditions is overwhelming. Thankyou all from all the team at Charity Soul UK.

Next Harrogate is October 24th, this month's Roots Room has set the bar very high indeed so only one thing to do is go out there and raise it higher.

many thanks

What an absolutely fabulous night at the Manhattan, every room buzzin' people attending from far and wide in spite of the atrocious weather, did not deter from a great night. Danced till my feet  throbbed, thanks Tony for two continuous spins of my fav's at 01:30 lol, great in Dekka's room early 60's spins of some R' n B classic's were taking me back to a time where I thought I'd never re-visit, missed reggae and ska much to my dismay, BUT a big thumbs up to ALL contributors  to the Charity Soul cause, we collected well over £1000+, and still counting. Don't forget folks all the guys, dj's, reception, merchandise, give their time for charity soul for ZILCH repayment .:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Next session at the Manhattan 24th October

Welcome to the CHARITY SOUL UK - HARROGATE MANHATTAN LOUNGE Comments sectiom

This event is now over. Look up now to read the latest reviews of this soul event

The 1st guest to be announced for Dekka's Roots Room is Pete Lyster. We regard having Pete dj at Charity Soul as another coup for 'Dekka's Roots Room'  as a must see and hear dj at the top of his game with an awesome reputation and impressive record collection. Pete promotes and a resident at the highly regarded Bridgewater Soul Club in Somerset, resident at Soulvation nites, alldayers and weekenders throughout the Southwest, resident at the Dunkenhalgh 'Summer in the Park' Alldayers and with rave reviews for his once a year headline spot at Brighouse Ritz .

'Our 2nd guest for Dekka's Roots Room' is Grant Rankin from Stockport. As well as his Pure fm radio show, Grant is particularly well known throughout the NW for his excellent taste in music and guest dj sets plus his 'A Taste of Honey' residency featuring some mighty fine rnb orientated northern - not to be missed' .

Big thanks for the invite to return again behind the decks for Charity Soul @ Manhattan . Great cause . 3 rooms and impressive dj lineup from far and wide . Blown away with what you've got lined up in the 'Roots Room'.

'A slight tweak in the lineup in Dekka's Roots Room . We need to re arrange the club showcase from the Jelly Roll (Peterborough) boys so they'll be re scheduled to next year and for this one, our final guest is Sean Tasker who many on here will have marvelled at his record collection evident from his playlists posted on soul-source. When not in America, Sean is a resident at the Gateshead Cricket Club Northern Soul events, recently guested at RaFa Soul Club Aycliffe to rave reviews and an indemand dj the length and breadth of the UK.'

Very sorry but gonna have to bow out from this one . A couple of DJ commitments in France gives the opportunity to extend our stay there. All's not lost though as one of them also involves Dekka, so it will be the sound of 'Dekka's Roots Room' on the Med.

Dekka’s Roots Room as part of a 3 room event

Beech Avenue
,

Harrogate, HG2 8DY

Saturday 22nd August, 4pm – 2am

£7 advanced reserved ticket or £10 on the door

Info on guests

With my fellow resident Andy on his travels (again ! lol) it's left to me to do the residency bit and to host another and rather special 'Dekka's Roots Room'. Looking at the guests, it's a veritable breath of fresh air and an opportunity to catch some of the finest and 'exclusive' to Dekka's Roots Room.  Judging by the interest to date looks like it's going to a busy one ....

So it's Pete Lyster,  all the way up from deepest Somerset with a reputation and record collection which more than matches the finest cider from those parts. This guys' exceptional behind the decks and not to be missed ....if in doubt,  just read past reviews of this guest spots - including 'Soul in the Park', Brighouse Ritz , Soulvation's Newquay Weekenders and Weston super Mare Pier allniters, his own Bridgewater Soul Club etc.  There's the mighty Chris 'Bearsoul' Morgan from his highly acclaimed club 'A Taste of Honey', Manchester plus his recent jet setting forays behind the decks in Amsterdam, Chicago and Mexico ! There's always something rather special in a 'Bearsoul' set, not least a few tasty morsels of Ska, an unreleased acetate or two ..

For those from the North East,  Sean Tasker needs no introduction as he has an envious 'hot box' of the 6ts dance floor rarities and another in demand DJ.  'Grant' Rankin from Stockport and Pure fm Radio comes with deserved and glowing recommendations - just check out those playlists.

'Big Bad' Eddie Wainwright is a must hear with his mod/6ts/scooterist gems, a local lad and resident at one of Leeds foremost 6ts/ RnB clubs 'Empty Bottles'. With his commitments behind the decks at National Scooter Rally's he's a hard man to nail down so a rare opportunity to catch him & making his debut in Dekka's Roots Room. Joining Eddie is his fellow resident at Empty Bottles Gary Brown. Gary has played the Roots Room before when he absolutely brought the house down with his own unique style befitting such a respected DJ from one of the foremost clubs in the land ‘Empty Bottles’

Finally it's  showcase time ... featuring  Russ and Ray from the Caliente Soul Club (Peterborough) . Both of whom are guaranteed to keep the bar high with some absolute gems - hence as with all the guests they are invited on merit to deliver the 'no compromise' music which epitomises 'Dekka's Roots Room'.

So there you have it, fantastic DJ’s playing great mod/British Beat/Ska/Rare 6ts/Soul/ popcorn/Funk/ Boogaloo on ovo.

If it's not your normally your thing - give it a listen/dance - you can always then retreat to the other two excellent rooms for northern oldies and modern/7ts . All in all destined for another great afternoon and evening at The Manhattan, Harrogate with Charity Soul UK raising funds for Professor Maitland and his team.

Right folks, Sunny August (?) is now upon us and the next Charity Soul All-Dayer (THE DADDY OF ALL-DAYERS) at the Manhattan Lounge is imminent.

Time to dig deep for Professor Norman Maitland's groundbreaking research in finding a cure for Prostate Cancer. Having been twice recently to meet the guy at his laboratory in York, last time to help present a cheque for £7,000.0 - the running total now is £24,000.0, cannot speak to highly of his motivation, enthusiasm and utter dedication into stem cell research to find a possible cure.

This is all done by YOUR :thumbup: contributions and attendance's at these events without which non of this would be possible, so all we can say here at Charity Soul is please continue  with your much appreciated financial contributions and KEEP THE FAITH:thumbsup: I am under no illusions that Professor Maitland will achieve his goal in finding a cure and YOU will have helped in this.

Dave

Looking forward to my first time at Harrogate, only heard great things about the event generally, but the Roots room particularly. Great to be part of that dj line up too, it really ticks all the boxes.

Wifey can't make this one as our doggie sitters are on holiday, but bringing my big Sis Suzy along  [ an original 'Brazennose Street' ] Wheel girl. It usually gets messy when we get out and about, so be warned !

See y'all Saturday, bring your dancing shoes.

Well we're on the RIGHT TRACK for Harrogate, wallet replenished an I CAN'T WORK NO LONGER (for Charity Soul)and I'M (we're) ON MY WAY to Stray Land LOL, her indoors intends doin' a Viv Nic in the AFTERNOON (of the Rhino) which i am looking forward to (LIAR, LIAR), then hoping she will say "on to the Winter Gardens (Pump Room)" which will be MUSIC TO MY EARS  as she is MY KIND OF WOMAN. The liquid refreshment there is second to none, and I hope I'm still STANDING ON SOLID GROUND by SIX O'CLOCK and not STANDING IN THE CORNER, then after a little Italian meal and hoping I'm not STILL HUNGRY we're GOIN' TO A GO GO  (well Manhattan Lounge) where it'll be DANCE DANCE DANCE, DANCE TO THE MUSIC and DANCIN' EVERYWHERE.

But after a little POW WOW with the CS boys (messrs. TOC, Nigel C and Tony J) I'm now relegated to the reception so its DANGER HEARTBREAK AHEAD but with  DETERMINATION I'll overcome this LITTLE  MISUNDERSTANDING you'll find me in THE TWILIGHT ZONE (the door)  hoping the the Boss will bring some refreshment and a SLICE OF THE PIE to TAKEAWAY THE PAIN STAIN  and wishing that  THIS MAGIC MOMENT (lol) of my TIME on the doors during  THE NIGHT soon comes to a close as I GOTTA GET AWAY  to the GREEN DOOR (well Dekka's Roots Room).

Then it will be up to the Boss to TAKE MY HAND and TAKE ME HOME,  as HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS.

Dave - in philosophical mode
