Evening everyone.

Yes time is flashing past (too fast in fact) and all those New Year's resolutions seem a to becoming a distant memory and now is about the time when most people are starting to fall off the wagon and that gym membership isn't getting the use it should be and the dog walking idea seems to be going on a back burner.....oh well soon be spring.

new-years-resolutions-funny-lol_zpsf2f9f

Okay well as you may recall from some of last months posts i thought that a certain record by JJ Callier "Pusherman" was a passed over play...how wrong i was so here's one for the team does this once "Played everywhere track" still get an outing? (**i bet Tony has a copy in his box**)

Today's People  "S.O.S" (All We Need Is Time for Love)

Your thoughts please,

Russ

Now why am I not surprised there Tony, I just somehow knew you'd have a copy in the "Ado Collection" my copy is on the Canadian Lindee record label.

A high octane stomper (I'm sure the Soul purists will denounce it on the grounds of it being white pop) that was a once monster play but yet another "here today and gone tomorrow" sound, so the question is does it ever get a play nowadays?

Evening Fellas,

Trust Derek to have the most obscure issue out of us all on a South African release (unless of course you know better?) and also as a point of interest he has some very nice Japanese Motown issues in that box of his.

Tezza's copy is on an LP, (Derby record label by any chance?) are the other album tracks any good or is it very much a one track LP?

Tony and Woody both have Gamma issues (there's a dark orange and light orange copy on that label)

Mine is on Lindee Canadian release, and there's at least one more record label this song is on and that a Turkish record company called Serpent....how many place did this song come out in, the plot thickens.

Tony guessing you're right i've funny felling this track might be down for a spot of deck time on the 21st.

Hi Fellas,

Well here we go Tony I'm showing you mine...

20150207_004758_zps7f32bea5.jpg

Derek the Rosco Robins Track is a new one to me, as you mention the similarities are very apparent but as he produced both songs and also produced them he must have liked the fomula and he wouldn't be the first or last person to do this look at the other song writers who's work you can tell from the opening bars, in fact the Motown classic "It's The Same Old Song" by Holland, Doizer, Holland  pays a tounge in cheek homage to their previous work and the words of the song seem to spell this out when listened to.

Now it's the same old song
But with a different meaning
Since you been gone

But that said "That's It" a decent song and very playable...now "That's Enough"

Hi Woody and the team,

Good question I must say that I wouldn't mind spinning the afore mentioned Rosco Robinson track or indeed the Today's People one as well (can you remember a time when at some events the DJ's would pre-event issue some form of a play list?) but "That's Enough" might be a definate contender for an outing of course depending what order the DJ'ing times are, so who can get the track out of their box first!

Either way i think that, myself, Woody or Derek should give it a spin seems rude no too, i'm betting Tony would and i know Derek likes a challenge...

Well here's one that's fell of the the Soul Radar at one point everywhere and then gone just as soon,

The Grand Piano Company Esperanto

I'm Laying money on Tony having one of these (or once having one) not expensive but copies seem to be quite hard to find now.

Hi Derek,

Sorry didn't put that down as a spin of yours the blue AMPEX issue is the original one mine is on a white label Demonstration copy not 100% sure how original it is and i think at best is a second issue (read pressing/boot as the original demo is a light orange but it of an excellent quality) I thought this was so good in it's day a little bit like Derek & Ray's "Interplay" but on a heavy dose of amphetamines and asking the question where have all the instrumentals gone, only a couple seem to be aired today.

Showing you mine

I used to have the Ampex white demo many moons ago, from memory I think it looked a little different to yours Russ, Don't own any copy now though.

Remember it getting hammered for a couple of months and then nothing.

Totally agree Tony,

Massive for a couple of months then as soon forgotten but that was from a time when there was so much quality stuff becoming available record life span was at best short.

I couldn't tell you the best instrumental but i can tell you the worst (okay this in my own opinion) so her goes it's Travis Wammack's "Scratchy" a blatant rip off of

Mel Torme's "Comin' Home Baby" but worse, far far worse okay so the guy can play the guitar a little but to ever class this a Northern Soul track, soul or even music beats me the memories of the stampedes to get on the dance floor still haunt my dreams and even more bizarrely why do i own two copies of it, maybe its that subliminal part in the middle...."smoke crack and worship Satan" anyone?

Travis Wammack, i'll never forgive you!

Russ,   still trying to come to terms after all these years with this work of Satan

Hi fellas,

Well back on line after just getting over what seems like the cold from hell SickDog_zps07085920.png i'm now

starting to come round a little and from a person who is pretty bullet proof (the last ime i saw a doctor i was 12) but come rain or shine (or snow for that matter) i'll be there Saturday for this month night of quality Across The Board at "The Corner Pocket"

Well Tony the instrumental you've posted by Sounds Orchestral....and another tune that i must have missed back then! butas for "Have Faith In Your Love" is by no other person than the Johnny Pearson at one time the musical director of The BBC Top Of The Pops orchestra as well as being a key player in the launch of Cilla Blacks career via his musical arrangement of her version of  Dionne Warwick's "Anyone Who Had a Heart"  that was recorded at London's Abbey Road Studios under the production of George Martin a little bit of a Pearson reworking and the addition of some bassoons in the woodwind section and a sligh play with the lyrics giving her her first number 1 hit.

He also relesed numerous albums under the Sounds Orchestral brand

"Have Faith In Your Love"

Being one relesed as a single his biggest hit with them was

"Cast Your Fate To The Wind" that sounds more of a Northern Soul instrumental to my listening than "Have Faith In Your Love" and managed to become a number 5 hit on the UK charts in 1965.

Now as for crazy Instrumentals that have all but passed into the "Box In The Loft Collection" can anyone rember this?

So bad it's good!  Will Power "SpiderMan" (and no i don't own a copy)

Evening fellas,

More or less all sorted for Saturday (perhaps more on the less side to be honest) but still a few days to go, great interest being shown and once more everthing is stacking up for another top night at "The Corner Pocket" and dancing shoes are warmly recomended....you'll be needing them

Going off on a tangent but has anyone noticed how mild the weather has been of late? i've some daffodils that are in full bloom and a load of other spring bulbs waiting to bust into bloom so is this proof of global warming?

I went to the greengrocers today and I picked up an iceberg lettuce.

I said to the man at the counter, "Why is it these seem to be getting smaller and smaller?"

"Global warming." He replied.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick mention that if you didn't know already "The Corner Pocket's" musical policy is not only Across The Board but also is 100% dance floor driven so we're request friendly the better night you have the more we enjoy it and this month special guest DJ Tezza adheres to this principle in a massive way so as said before, bring ya dancing shoes, your gonna need 'em!

Hi Frank and Derek,

Yeah sure to be a top night Frank i wonder if Woody or Miss T can tempt you over to do a spot this side of the Snake, watch this space for Manchester's finest Frankie "M" headlining the bill at The Corner Pocket....

Derek yeah i've got some requests from last month to put in the box for play this Saturday nothing as glamorous as The Delreys Incorporated "Destination Unknown" the genuine Tampete issue can go for silly amounts and price have gone manic in recent years and a song that i had completely forgotten about a nice play, my set will be no doubt far less exocit but absolutly geared up to the dance floor.

And talking of Exocit,

An 80 year-old man sat down in the orthopedic surgeon's office. "You know, Doctor," he said, "I've made love in more exotic cars than anyone I know. Must be at least a thousand."

"And now, I suppose, you want me to treat you for the arthritis you got from scrunching up in all those uncomfortable positions," the doctor said.

"Oh, no doctor," the old fellow replied. "I just want to borrow your Lamborghini."

Back again, with a little more time so special thanks to guest DJ "Tezza" who did an out standing set and mixed some old soul standards with a touch of lesser known discs, all making a pleasant change from "Formula DJ'ing Spots" where a said pattern is followed and stuck too and perhaps Tezza is the most prepaired jock ever to grace the turntables, very much "The Boy Scout of The Decks" even down to back up lighting and also being the proud owner of the scenes largest record box (and perhaps even the heaviest one even tipping the scales over Tony "A's" back damaging mega beast) Well done mate you did your bit and did it well.
