Brav.Ad-Lib Club guest dj.March 28th.2015
My apprenticeship started at Miriom St Youth Club, Crewe in 1971 listening to the likes of Archie Bell - Here I go again, I was totally hooked on the music. Then came Wigan Casino in 1973 at the tender age of 16 which just blew me away, its hard to put into words what an experience Wigan was but straight away I had the vinyl collecting bug. By 1979 the Soul Scene was all over for me, it was time to grow up, get married and concentrate... on my Career . After living and working in The Netherlands for 5 years I then travelled the world working for Cable & Wireless by 2004 I decided to call it a day and move back to my home town of Crewe. I soon realised that the Northern Scene had not gone away to my surprise, so carried on where I left off. After meeting Clive Read and Mace my attention turned to the R&B side of things and began collecting again, I have to say these two have influenced me greatly, so much so we decided to run our own club, The Federal. I have Djed at The Hideaway, Manchester and King Bee, Sheffield to name a few. Anyway a lot of you may know me already as I have been a regular punter at The Ad-lid for about 3 years and am really looking forward to spinning some vinyl on the night.

Best Regards.

Dj Profile of Katy Baggott who is playing The Ad-Lib Club on March28th 2015.

Lincolnshire roots - grew up in a house surrounded by a Motown and soul record collection and introduced to the mod revival scene in 1980s by older brother. Now a keen record collector - love a good soul diva, Motown, 1960s R&B, and 1960s lounge exotica. DJ'd previously at East Midlands charity event 'Dig the New Breed', retro club 'Mash' Macclesfield, Dirtquake 3, Kings Lynn and supporting Secret Affair, Lincoln. Happy to be bringing some soul girl power to The Ad-Lib Club in March.

I’ve been heavily into music since my early teens when I had a Saturday job working on a market stall selling Northern Soul 45's from late 1978 -1981, although at that time I was more likely to buy New Wave, Mod or Ska! However, what I heard playing on the battery operated deck did create an interest in soul and R'n'B, which escalated when I got into the whole mod thing in 1980, although unlike most of my peers I by then much preferred the original 60s sounds to the revival stuff. Acquiring these tunes triggered my obsession with the 7" platter, and I've been a serious record collector since the very early 80s, my biggest passions being R 'n' B, Beat, Freakbeat, Garage, Mod, Popcorn, Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly, Ska.

As well as mod, ska and soul gigs, I started going to the odd rockabilly night with my brother in the mid 80s, and heard some amazing, jumping R'n'B for the first time, along with the wild rockabilly tunes, and I became hooked on discovering more of this cool & crazy music. Over the years I have built up an almost encyclopaedic knowledge of all things 50s and 60s, and have in the past contributed to magazines such as Shindig!, Record Collector and UK Rock'n'Roll. I had to sell off most of my long acquired soul collection about twelve years ago when an accident meant a long-term spell off work without sick pay, but in the years since I have replaced most of what was essentially 100mph stompers with an earlier, rootsier, bluesier and raunchier selection of Rhythm and Blues records.

I can be found virtually anywhere in the country most weekends at some mod, R'n'B or rockin' event or another; I've DJ'd all over the north and Midlands at many great clubs and events across the genres. In the past twelve months I've done spots from Somerset to Scotland, at such clubs as Full Circle (Edinburgh); Melting Pot (Scarborough); Hideaway and Manchester Mod Weekender, Mockers Clubs (Stroud) and the King Bee R'n'B Club (Sheffield). Having said that, I don't consider myself a DJ at all, more a collector happy to share my tunes to anyone willing to listen!

I am one of the resident team, along with Frank and Tiny, at the Roots Room in Derby, a project that explores ALL types of Roots music as the name suggests, the aim being to attract and bring together people with all tastes in different music forms of what is essentially fruit from the same tree, where we are dedicated to spinning high quality tunes all on chunky, crackly, 100% vinyl.

I am also a founder member of TFR Promotions, a charity organisation that puts on high quality vintage music events in Nottingham to raise money for various charities, and currently working on a new venture in Sheffield, the resurrection of longstanding club night Go-Go Gorilla Rhythm 'n' Beat Club, which will mash up a selection of R'n'B, Beat, Rock'n'Roll, Garage, Soul, Dance Craze and Ska 45s along with some top live acts.
For my Ad-Lib sets, expect to hear a fusion of R&B winners, early Soul scorchers, Doo-Wop dancers,  Rockabilly blasters & Rock 'n' Roll honkers, all with our own particular twist that WE think makes the Sounds of the Roots Room a notch above the average club - Big Bad Boss Beat!

Well, that's me in a nutshell - thanks for sticking with it. I cannot wait to share some of my selections with the Ad-Lib faithful, quite a daunting task given the calibre of the regulars and former guests, and I sincerely hope you find something to enjoy in my choices. Thanks so much to the team for asking me - I'm truly honoured!

All the best Glenn

With thanks

DJ Profile - Ian Parker (Grantham)

Ad-Lib Club March 28th

Where do I begin. 1977 and counting! ...
Did the niter thing in the late 70's/early 80's, plus the abundance of soul nights around the local area. But nighters were the staple diet those days.
When the mod revival kicked, off in '79, I wanted in and in I got. I was in dancefloor heaven for ages, we had nighters, scooter rallies, local do's and much more. The music of the soul scene was my bread and butter, so it is reflected in my record collection, even with the early 60's sound the mods favoured, it has to have SOUL.
Good early soul or RnB as its sometimes known is as important to me, as 100mph stompers, I have a passion for it all, so hopefully I can enjoy playing them at the Ad Lib club, as much as the other folk there will enjoy listening.
Very much looking forward
