Well it's a very good evening to everyone from the Steel City,

Woody and Miss T have left me in control while they have ventured to the darkest parts of Stratford Upon Avon (i believe that Stratford Upon Avon also has some light parts as well as some parts that might be at best said to be just overcast)

So while these two are of taking in a spot of culture via the birthplace of William Shakespear and talking of William Shakespear.....

A man walks into a bookshop and says,

"can I have a book by Shakespeare?"

"Of course, Sir, which one?"

The man replies, "William."

So what i can tell you is once more the feedback from our last event was outstanding and already numbers for the 21st of this month are looking good already, with another outstanding DJ topping the bill the very excellent DEANO (That Beating Rythum Soul Club & The Trades Club Barnsley) who is once again as is policy at The Corner Pocket to be 100% geared up to playing to the dance floor so remember the talc and your dancing shoes your gonna need them.

Plus your truly as back up spinmiester, top sound man Tony "A" Miss "T" and of course Woody and Derek "G" playing you all favourite Soul, Motown and Rhythm'n' Blues tracks and of course mixing in a few of the hottest new sounds around just for good measure!

So come on down to "The Pocket" and see what all the fuss is about, we're sure you won't be disapointed!

A quiz question just for the ladies.....

Name three Shakespear plays from this clue!

"4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches."

Answer.......... "Much Ado About Nothing, As You Like It and A Midsummer Night's Dream."

                                 images%20shake_zpsagixvtfm.jpg

If William Shakespear came from Mexborough

Hi again everyone,

Just a quick mention that as this stage Woody And Miss T are still AWOL so it once more it's up to me to keep flying "The Corner Pocket" flag, i'm guessing that our two intrepid travelers are maybe on the journey back home now after doing a detour to Banbury for a Soul Night on Saturday, i'm sure we'll get to know more of this event at a later stage.

As for me i'm back from my dentist and honestly can't believe what they charge for minor dental work but Range Rovers' read the Over Finch footballer versions, private schools, horse riding lessons and two villas (both with private pools) one in the Algarve and the other one in Thailand plus the weekend cottage in the Lake District don't come cheap and someone has to pay for them.....me!

So looking forward to yet another great night down here, and remember!

Stardust, Goldmine Sevens &  those shite RnB Series "Not"!!!!!

Yeah had a really nice time in Stratford On Avon, plenty to see & do, nice w/end. Managed to nip over to Banbury in Oxfordshire (which is only about 20 miles away) for their Soul Night, absolute packer. Great sounds from all DJ's, nice friendly crowd & a crackin' venue with a large sprung dance floor, Me & Miss T had a great night, definately going there again sometime soon.

Picked up a couple of new'ish  sounds for my early spot at "The Pocket" on the 21st, hope they travel well, we'll see anyway.

Hope all's well Buddy there in Steel City, take care Russ, Woody & Miss T :hatsoff2::wave:

Almost forgot and only a day late to wish everyone a very belated

Saint-Patricks-Day-Free-Clipart.4_zpsbta

When by the single purchase of a pint of Guinness can give you all the credability you need to claim Irish linage (and of course you can use the line "yeah i always drink the black stuff when i can, but it doesn't taste the same as it does in Ireland!")

So whether or not you Celtic heritage goes back to Finn McCool or a weekend away in Dublin have a great day and remember there are more lyrics to "Danny Boy" than the Oh Danny Boy bit but if you get stuck here's how to wing your way through the entire song!

Londonderry Aire (Danny Boy)

Oh, Danny Boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling

From glen to glen,

(and then) Mumble, mumble, mumble.

(Repeat the first two lines again)

then start mumbling in a higher tone than before,

(then Repeat just) Danny Boy, Danny Boy, Danny Boy, oh Danny Boy, ect ect ect, until you fall over from loss of oxegen of extreme alcohol consumption.

Well here's a tune with an Irish conection about it,

From the Irish folk singer Ray Merrell a great touch of "Blue-eyed" Northern Soul

Russ.... oh 'de be Jesus, where's mi Pouges reckods now?

The clock is well and truly ticking now and still with time to spare to sort the record box/boxes for my stint behind the decks and as promised now armed with some new discs to play, So I'm almost fully set.....just need to have a word with Tony and arrange my parking space for Saturday....

And folks remeber there's still plenty of time to get on down to "The Pocket" for a quality night of classy Soul, Rhythm'n'Blues, Northern Soul and Motown and of course maybe one or two records a little left of centre.

Evening Woody,

Yeah the Sarah Vaungh track was one of my mums another one of hers is....and now wait for this is,

Andy Williams and his take on the Earl Grant song "House Of Bamboo" that if i must be honest i've never heard played out but am reliably informed was once a popular spin at some venues and does gets the odd outing a one or two Mod focused evenings.

There must be something by Doris Day....surely somewhere?

Evening everyone.

As mentioned we're almost there so if you haven't made any deffinate plans to where you are going tomorrow night once again can I say we can assure you of a very warm welcome here at "The Corner Pocket" and say once again this event has so much going for it we're sure you'll agree and see why so many people are saying so many good things about this night.

Fantastic value for money at only £3 admission that could pay almost for it's self after only two drinks as the bar is excellently priced.....we all know what it's like to have to pay top end drinks prices at so many venues and although the night can be great this can really spoil your enjoyment....well not here.

And the music policy is truly 100% fully across the board and totally dance floor driven....if we've got it we'll play it from classic old school spins to current in demand plays from the team and each guest DJ we believe that this is your night and we'll play accordingly.

So look no further for a great night of quality Northern Soul, Rhythm'n'Blues and Motown with just one or two just a little of centre plays thrown in for good measure than here at "The Corner Pocket"

We look forward to seeing you there.

Well i'm almost set for tonight just the final record selection to sort plus any requests that might be asked for (and believe me we do get asked for all manner of them....and i'm still not sure how Geri Helliwell's version of "It's Raining Men" fits in to the musical profile of "The Corner Pocket" but i can honestly say that i didn't have this track with me.... (and indeed is it even on vinyl?)

So looking forward to seeing you all a little later.....trust me it's gonna be a cracker of a night!

Hi everyone,

Here's just a quick thank you to each and everyone one you who came to our event last night i'm sure i speak on behalf of us all that we all had a fantastic night and hope you all did just as much as us.

And as usual i must take the time to thank those who lifted this night to the next level, from his massive behind the scenes work and effort a big slap on the back for Tony "A" aka Ado who simply gets on with the job in hand in a simple no frills no messing method (and of course for letting me use his drive to park)

To both Jackie and Miss T for the somewhat thankless task of door duties and somehow managing to keep a smile on their faces from start to finsh, well done ladies as always a great job.

A well deserved mention to the night's guest Deano who did an excellent spot that crossed ever T and dotted every I and even managing to give an outing to the rare and moody Ann Caudel track "Longing For You" as a point of interest it estimated there are about ten only genuine original copies of track in the UK and three of them were in the same room at the same time (sadly i was the only DJ on the night not to be a member of this elite club....but i'll just have too keep looking for a copy to turn up that is if Frankie "M" doesn't beat me too it!) an impressive hour from a very decent bloke well done that man!

Two great spots from Woody, giving the floor what the floor wanted and of course keeping the dancers more than happy with a slick blend of club classics and old school Northern Soul and i seem to think DW is going a little down the "Popcorn" route with Sarah Vaughan, Billy Storm and Dean Barlow all seeing action on the night....and might i say "there's nothing wrong with that" fine stuff Mr Wood and a big thumbs up!

The last DJ to say a little about is of course Derek, who really is so laid back and easy in his style and plays always to the dancers amongst us with a pleasant and well constructed set that somehow seems to incorporates one or two of his personal favourites that get woven into the mix and i might say that just perhaps have just a slight touch of home grown bias to them but always played to a full dance floor and believe me that's far harder than you might think.

Yet my last and most important thank you goes to each and everyone of you who came and gave your support on the night you really are everything and more and without you there wouldn't be this event or indeed any other such events. And i must give an extra special mention to the lovely people whe made the journey all the way from Derby sadly i didn't manage to get your names but look forward to seeing you all next month.

So until next month, go steady

Well done Russ! great post which sums up mine and Mr. Wood's feelings about the night.  I missed the beginning due to family business in Manchester but there was no mistaking the sounds that greeted me on the stairs...no mistaking the efforts made by four great DJs through the rest of the night.  There are a lot of people working behind the scenes at all times to support Woody and me in our ventures and all the effort put in is much appreciated.

As Dave's muse, PA, driver, roadie and all round number one supporter I am always delighted when so many people turn out to share the fantastic collections that both he and the guests bring along...top quality tunes which guarantee to fill the dancefloor.  Great spot in particular last night from guest Deano who I have to credit for introducing me to Ann Caudel, Pookie Hudson and Elliot Small - all guaranteed to get me on the dancefloor and a great unreleased Etta James track which has got Woody in an ebay spin as we speak.  And Derek who delivers just the right stuff at just the right time and always manages a surprise or two in every set.  Great stuff from you all...and Russ for always getting the dancers going in the first place, no mean feat.  Another great night and worth every minute of the work in getting it off the ground again.  Special thanks to soundman and all round great supporter Ado who does a lot which is unseen and pretty thankless but who we really appreciate. That's it for this month...only remains to say of course that the 'Pocket Soul Night' would be nothing without support from the many dancers, listeners and collectors who turn out to make these such good nights...thank you for the dancing and all the good comments.  Keep the Faith and we hope to see you all next month to do it all again.

Miss T  (and Woody too) xx

Agree with all of the above Guys,

just wanted to say a personal thankyou to all the Team, top sound engineer Ado for all his fantastic help & advice (& sorting the spare wire's out). To Derek & Russ, for their crackin' spots you were all awesome on Saturday. Not forgetting the "Ladies" on the door Jackie & Miss T, nice one Girls. Bit like an acceptance speech this init . A big big thankyou to Deano, took over the decks at 10:30 (after a "great" spot by Russ) & totaly controled the dance floor for the next hour. People danced to every record, blended his tunes perfectly, with loads of club classics & a few sounds new to our ear's, every one a dancer. The unreleased Etta James track was "Fab" & the last one he ended with by The "Monorays" was superb (bit of saving up to do for one of these, hey ho). Thanks also to Deano & Fiona for staying while the end of the night & for the kind words when he rang me Sunday morning to say thanks for spot & what great night they'd both had, a true gent our Deano.

Last but by no means least, thanks a again to everyone old & new who came along to support us, including half of Barnsley & great to meet the nice people who traveled all the way from Derby, glad you all had a good night Everyone.

Next month we're joined by special guest DJ "Two Dinners" (Mick Glover), from Junction 36 Soul Club, everybody knows "Two Dinners". Cheers Guys, see all out & about in the weekends to come, Woody  :hatsoff2:
