Excellent night at Rugby as always, loved the free CD just right for the journey home thank you. Loved Alan Jenkins spot which was as good as it gets in my opinion well done. Looking forward to my next visit whenever that may be, hopefully sooner rather than later.

Our first visit & what a great night, well done all.Loved it in both room, music was top notch form all behind the decks

Plenty of the usual reprobates playing out which always makes for a fun night with plenty of banter flying about.

The only problem I had was wondering why it's took me 13 years to pay such a great night a visit, certainly won't be leaving it any length of time from now on

Cheers

Martyn

Well....that was just something else, wasn't it!!

Absolutely top drawer from start to finish....both rooms were bouncing!

Sian, Dean & the rest of the crew do a fantastic job, but special credit must go to the punters who are really up for it from the doors opening.

A real special night for real special people.

The music was exceptional in my opinion...if you've never been, you need to really make the effort.

Till the next time. :hatsoff2:

Well, wasn't that a night and a half? :)

We have the busy build up making sure every scenario is covered - just in case.
The feeling sick for 24 hrs before, again just in case.
The shakes for the first few hrs on the door.

Yep 13 years and it's never changed.

And in a blink of eye, it's all over :( Until the next time

My wonderful door helpers...Carol, Del and Ken...you are amazing and yes Ken, I did notice that you've started to say please to the lovely punters as they hand over their hard earner money. :) And Del, you are forgiven for telling me 10 minutes before the door opened to go get ready and put my make up on, Confidence in tatters, I kept on reguardless

The DJs, dancers, collectors, dealers (record before there is any sarky comments) and all the linch pins that make Rugby...we love you all.

There was such a buzz before that we couldn't help getting excited days before. Even the forcast of snow didn't dampen our spirits. And it didn't disappoint, it was amazing.

Adam's birthday room saw the Freestyle room rammed all night. I only got in there once for Killa's spot because he'd promised to play his Wombles LP. I think he fibbed! Disappointed punter. :)

Thank you for sticking with us for 13 years and long may we continue xx

DJ times for the freestyle room, copied and pasted this from David Abbotts post on facebook because (especially for Dave) it's brilliantly funny!

After much deliberation, I have decided to give the other DJs a chance so that I can go and sign autographs and talk nonsense at anyone that i can pin down.
Our DJs are going for a full 55 minutes - an hour is too long to keep their attention and they'll wonder off or play with themselves or start dribbling, or probably all the aforementioned; and 50 minutes is so next door; but also because, as it is Adam's birthday he has a go twice...in the hope he may get it right at the second attempt.
And get there early for Chris the Tricksters warm up spot!!

Chris Harvey warming us up to 9:00
Matt Male 09:00 to 09:55
Killa 09:55 to 10:50
Chris Davies 10:50 to 11:45
Steve C 11:45 to 12:40
Adam Tone Deaf-Monkey Topping 12:40 to 01:35
Stu Mobbs 01:35 to 02:30
Dave Coolio 02:30 to 03:25
Chris Dr Pickles 03:25 to 04:20
Adam Trunky Part 2 04:20 to 05:00

(Times may well change on a whim, and DJs too if any one upsets me.)

For me, the whole funky edged, raw 60's, underplayed scene that I love, started with Middleton, Burnley and a tiny club in Coventry called Move On.

Move On was run by Adam Topping  & Matt Male

I had been moving away from oldies nights and playing my own sound in backrooms for a little while when Johnny Fingers said to me "you need to get yourself to Move On".  He said he had arranged a spot for me and off I went with a box of my sounds.

On a freezing cold Friday I drove from Somerset to Coventry unsure of what I would find.

Move On was like a collective of lost souls and I was greeted with open arms.  We all had similar tastes, there were very few cover ups and we swapped sounds like mad.  We were all looking for something different. To listen to sets where you only knew 2 in 25 records was very exciting.

The scene changed dramatically for us after that. Modern rooms were sidelined for uptempo underplayed sounds which led to nights just for our music and saw the birth of Empty Bottles, That Driving Beat, Ghetto Soul,  Top of The Stairs and Soul Funktion.

Saturday 13th Feb sees a lot of the friends coming back together to play, dance and listen to some very exciting music.

I'll be celebrating a friendship that started on that cold Friday night, trying to carry the decks and speakers down an ice coated set of stairs.

We'll have a laugh but the music will be serious :)

Everyone's invited, see you there.

Dr Pickles
