Well it's a very good evening to everyone and just chance to wish you all a great

and hope you all have a great one if you can images%20bh_zpsboak0n54.jpg

Well as time and tide wait for no man as the saying goes so and neither do the CCS team as you know always a top blend of classy Northern Soul, Motown and the coolest R&B around to be heard as well as classic old school gems and talking of gems.......here's a tune that i've been giving a fair amount of deck time to at CCS's sister event "The Corner Pocket" in Mexborough and perhaps It might just get a spin in June at The Old Nags Head!

The Epitome Of Sound "Where Where You" Sandbag Records ("B" side to "You Don't Love Me")

Well most of us know the name or indeed if we don't we certainly know one of the all time favourite Northern Soul tracks of all time their recording "You Don't Love Me" but how many out there have missed the records "B" side the fantastic "Where Where You"?

"Where Were You" makes a very pleasent change to the more played "A" side and why oh why didn't "You Don't Love Me"become a massive hit in it's day and although it did achieve a morderate amount of success on a local basis in fact "You Don't Love Me" went as high as number 11 on Cleveland's local record chart (I seem to remember a figure once mentioned of sales being in the region of 50,000 discs by a band member or even perhaps Robert Paladino the songs creative force who both wrote and produced both tracks) The Epitome Of Sound was way ahead of it time with it's mixed ethical members four white band members and fronted by Eugene Thomas, an African American as lead singer, but sadly as things were starting to look good for the group and stardom was almost in their grasp, their record company went bankrupt and effectivly left the band high and dry and only a year later The Epitome Of Sound was no more a sad fate for a great group that were so very near to being so much more than they were to be.

"Where Were You" has a building intro with a great understated vocal and that all important beat, with some very well worked strings and a nice touch of choral backing that takes the song to another level, a simple and very catchy mid-tempo dancer that has that certain X-Factor that some records just possess that no matter what time of the night you play them they just seem to fit the mood of the floor and here is one such record and in my opion perhaps is one of the greatest double siders in the world of Northern Soul, and to me about as good as any track can be that sums up the passion and feeling that is Soul Music in the simplest manner it can.....an underplayed classic!

Evening Woody,

You've beat me to tonight's post, yeah "Where Were You" has really took off at CCS's sister event "The Corner Pocket" and seems to be at the moment a regular on my playlist (and as much as i like to play a different spot everytime sometimes you just have to play what the dance floor want...simple as)

I wonder if "Where Were You" could become the favoured play over "You Don't Love Me" doubtful i know but there was a time (no pun intened) when Jack Montgomery's "Dear Beloved" (or on some issues "My Dear Beloved" was the "B" side to "Do You Believe It" a full weight dancer of a record that i haven't heard played out in a very long time yet "Dearly Beloved" is a regular staple spin across the length and breath of the country's Northern Soul events yet once perhaps passed over as too slow from the time when anything that didn't break the 100 MPH mark were all but dismissed as simply not fast enough, but as we're now very well aware the slower and mid-tempo spins seem to have won the dancers and the dance floor over and songs that might never had or at best only limited exposure sit very well today.

So here for those of us that remember when this was very much the prefered play here's

Hi everyone,

I'm still no wieser as to Mr Manley's largest additions to the collection but rest assured that the quality will be there as it always is.

Team captain Woody has yet to inform me of the well awaited CCS Top Ten and both he and Frank do offer a very varied play list that has the widest of takes from the musical Soul spectrum, and this month's special guest DJ Mr Les Hare is sure to bring a slightly different take on matters and as his reputation goes before him you're in for a crackin' night of quality tunes.

And like CCS's sister event at The Corner Pocket in Mexborough everything is geared 100% to the dance floor and if your passion is for a touch of old school Rhythm'n'Blues this is the place to be both Woody and Frank have some impressive vinyl in their collections and you never know you might even get a dash of Ska thrown in.

Great cosy venue and a welcoming crowd that lifts this night to something a little bit special and out of the ordinary and of course always aimed at your enjoyment.

Hi all

been searching the vinylsphere for some non bank balance breaking tunage and turned up a few to play including

Otis Brown - The Willie Bop , love it what a tune

Four Chaps - True Lovers

Billy Joe Royal - Mama Didn't raise no fool

all available at great prices and good additions to my box.

also playing a Junior Wells track , a real oldie I cant stand no signifying on Blue Rock

so plenty of varying tunes to add to the City Centre Soul playlist of 100% ATB dancers

Well it's a very warm hello to everyone.

And it's looking like at long last we're going to get a touch of nice weather not before time but better late than never.

So for all our CCS followers who always ask when will the new Top Ten be getting published well I'm pleased to say Mr Wood will be giving me the chart rundown tomorrow so as soon as I get the details I'll post them here....once more thanks for all the positive feed back and comments we get in connection with our chart.

And talking of The CCS team as of this very moment the Manchester branch were out and about flyering (is flyering a real word?) and spreading the City Centre Soul message both near and far, all the gang really do put in the miles and attend so many other events it's hard to keep track with them but Woody, Miss T and Frank and not forgetting the CCS foot soldiers who believe in the soul family mantra of,

"give support to get support" and of course tell the world about this great event.

So till I get our new Top Ten (ETA around tea time i'm told) keep looking at our posts via Soul Source to keep informed about the latest and greatest tunes that are making it onto the decks at The Old Nags Head where musical quality is never compromised.

Well it's a very good evening everyone and nice to see the Soul Source website up and running again (even though I'm not sure if it's working 100%)

So what's been happening in the week or so that things hhave been off the air, well Woody and Frank have been busy record buying and I'm without home internet thanks to Sky Broadband and the house hard line as well so as soon as I'm sorted the CCS Top Ten will be published....

Thanks for your patience and excuse any bad grammar or spelling as I'm posting via my mobile.

So fingers crossed up and running ASAP.

Some good stuff in there Frank and quite a few cuts from the Manley collection as well, always been a big fan of the Wilson Pickett Track at number 5 and always reminds me of when i came back into the world of Northern Soul after being away for some years (as so many of us did family, marriage and mortgages) and this was a firm favourite of a friend of mine who like so many are sadly no longer with us.

Remember the millennium?

Here at CCS we are always looking to give value , such was  our  OAPs half price if accompanied by both parents  and the signed photo of the CCS crew , now fetching 0.25p

on Ebay , but why have gimmicks when  at £3 OTD , theres not a better deal in town , so make sure you give us a visit on the 27th , a great soul room awaits and we can

guarantee quality tunes all on original vinyl

A big thank you to everyone who has asked where this months reviews are,

well i've to be honest i've been having one or two problems with the site (offline and not mobile compatible with my phone anyhow) so this on this occasion things have gone somewhat south in the review department....sorry again

I can tell you that both Woody And Frank are fully revved up for tomorrow and have a great guest behind the decks and that's no other than Les Hare (King Bee Records) who is known for always doing a quality spot.

Well if you haven't made your mind up as to where you are going to get your fix of Soul you don't need to look any further than here at the Old Nags Head, from classic old school sound to up and coming plays and some of the coolest R&B to be found anywhere this side of the Mason Dixon line (okay so i've gone and said it now) but class and quality are the name of the game and as with any CCS events there is a true Across The Board music policy and giving you the best night that we can is paramount.

So here coming into this months chart is this slice of what many might say is the epitome of Northern Soul.

6 Dobie Gray "Out On The Floor" Charger Records original USA Release Black Magic UK release

From the man who was perhaps better known to most British folk at the time for his 1965 number 25 hit "The In Crowd" Is there anybody out there that hasn't heard this?

Always a popular spin and played everywhere and perhaps that might have been the songs downfall in some quarters but doesn't"Out On The Floor"  just capture everything that is Northern Soul?

Okay so i might hear you say that each and every CD ever made and dedicated to Northern Soul has this track somewhere on it (slightly OTT i know) and yeah you might be right but is this as pure a Northern Soul record as they come....well it just might be!, from an uptempo vocal and that bouncing rhythm that's there from the very first musical beats of the song and lyrics that could be tailor made for the scene you would be hard pushed to say anything different!

"so i get my kicks out on the floor"

"Out On The Floor" an American release from 1966 was imported into the UK in huge number in the mid 1970's and even booted (genuine Charger Copies have a stamped matrix number the counterfeits don't) a little later then getting an official British release over here in 1975 on the Black Magic Record label and making the UK top 50 at number 42. This was a must have disc for the collection and was one of the first record that i and no doubt many others not only bought and could hold our hands up and say "now that a Northern Soul record" played then and played now and although there might be those that turn their nose up at this and and frown on the song today and with (dare i say Al Wilson's "The Snake" and Wigans Chosen Few with "Footsee" and R Dean Taylor's "There's A Ghost In My House" and quite a few more that i could mention) brought so many people into the scene and without them things might have been very different indeed.

A great spin and pleased to see it classed in the Top 500 Northern Soul records and a worthy number 6 on the CCS Top Ten.

Just received a phone call from head office so this is just  to let everyone know that Woody and Miss T have arrived at The Old Nags Head and are busy setting up store.

For anyone who hasn't been yet this is a cracking cosy little venue right in the heart of Manchester city centre and really does play all the very best in Northern Soul, Motown and Rhythm'n'Blues and all on their original vinyl issue.

So as we say at City Centre Soul's sister event in Mexborough...

"remember to bring ya dancing shoes you're going to need 'em!"

Great night on Saturday...bit of a slow burner but filled up nicely later on.
Great tunes from all DJs, especially guest Les who did a fabulous job yet again for CCS. It was as always a showcase of top quality soul all played on lovely original vinyl and feedback from all has been very complimentary. Got some fabulous photos to post at a later date and hopefully (barring laptop trouble again) should get them into a slideshow shortly before the next session on August the 22nd. Great to see a busy dancefloor even very late into the night making it a very lively night with an energetic finish! Can't thank Frankie M, Bernard Heap and Russ Adams enough for all the behind the scenes promoting and encouragement which is much appreciated by me and Woody. Was a fantastic night with fantastic tunes & fantastic people. Thanks all who attended, nice to see some more new face's & thanks to the lovely Chap who asked if he could take some of our flyers to give to his friends ect..... Massive Thanks Pal.
Thanks to our Hoast's Sean & Tracey & all their staff, top job as always.
We'll see everyone again in August if not before..... Woody & Miss T
