Guest dj profile.Neil Lee.

Got into the Mod scene during the Brit Pop era of the mid ninetees.Listening to Blur etc led me onto The Jam and the rest is history.

Started attending Mod events in the late ninetees;Underground,New Untouchables and European rallies.

A major part of the Mod scene for me has been clubbing and attended most clubs during the last 15 years with Hideaway,Shotgun and Pow Wow in my opinion being the best clubs of that era.

Love most music that is considered Mod with R&B,British Beat,Jazz and Latin being my personal favourites and what I collect.

Enjoy listening to new sounds but have to admit love classic rally records.

Some tracks I will be likely to play:

Billy Hawks- O'Baby im losing you,

J.C.Davis - Faznecky

Bobby Bland - 36 22 36

Herbie Goins - Cruisin'

Otis Clay - Three is a couple

Little Luther - Eenie Meenie Minnie Moe

Billy Poole - Them Blues

Sherri - Taylor - He's the one that rings my bell.

Teddy Mack - Hey hey,Gypsy Woman

Dj Profile Mark Thomas (Hull).

I first got into the Mod over 20 years ago when I went to University. I’d been into Acid Jazz for a few years previously and somehow ended up going to a Mod night. That was it I was hooked. The clothes and music just blew me away.

I've been 'addictivley' collecting records and clothes since and been DJing on the Mod scene for about the last 16 or so years. I have run Mod and Northern Soul nights in the past but seem to have little time to do so now!!! I Dj'ed at a number of UK Mod & R&B clubs over the years including The Hideaway, No Way Out, Pow Wow, Mouse Trap, Heavenly Blocked, Shotgun, Leeds Mod Weekenders, Hard As Nails, Prestatyn Weekender, to name a few. I've also been fortunate enough to DJ in Italy at the Smart Drivers Rimini Weekender, Teramo Mod Weekender and the Blue Bar in Rome.

The sort of music I prefer to play is really a range R&B/Soul sounds with maybe some Latin or Jazz thrown in for good measure. I like Northern Soul but tend not to play too much Northern at Mod do’s unless I think it fits in, maybe something like Gene Toones or the Bluejays. I always try to play to the crowd with dance floor friendly tunes. I try and put together a selection of sounds that work, so hopefully its a good mix. There will definitely be a mix of R&B with some blues, jazz, latin and soul.

To be honest I don’t really know what records I’m going to play before I DJ anywhere. There will be a mix of classics, current sounds, rarities and maybe the odd unknown record too. I’m not giving too much away yet!! but expect to hear sounds like the following:

Jimmy Mccracklin - One Track Love (Chess)

Barnett Strong - Sugar Daddy (Unissued Bell Acetate)

JT Parker - If You Want To Hold On (Academy)

Ike & Tina Turner - Strange (Sonja)

Hector Rivera - I Want a Chance for Romance (Barry

The Ad-Lib Club will be selling copies of Tony Beesleys critically acclaimed 460 page book Sawdust Caesars:Original Mod Voices on this night.Feel free to browse through a copy of the book at the club.Just ask on the door.If you haven't got a copy of the book yet (and most people I know do have)then you really are missing out on a piece of social history whether you personally relate to the 60s,70s,80s or whenever.A "must have "book for any follower of British cult movements.

Just a reminder that this is an all-ticket event that has been sold out for about 5 weeks.Strictly no admission without a ticket. If we could increase capacity to accommodate more folk we would but we do have to honour the venues strict capacity laws.Hope you understand our position. We do sell out of tickets for our events.Demand always outstrips supply. In fact tickets are selling now for our October 3rd and Nov 28th events.

Over 100 tickets gone for our Oct 3rd event. We are a small, intimate venue with a strict door policy on ticketed numbers. So many folk missed out on our May 30th event by waiting too long to buy.If we are in your diary please buy asap.Guesting are Lorna Beattie,Jonny Monk and Lewis Mudford.
