cant believe this is gonna be the last Kingsway after 17 successfull years the final curtain is gonna close  on a top venue ran by a real genuine soulie ... ive been in conversation with carl a few minutes ago and he,s had enough of all the bickering and falling out on the scene today from so called soulies arguing like kids over peoples choice in clothes, then the dreaded ovo argument being told what you can or cannot play its ridiculous ... NORTHERN SOUL is in its TWYLIGHT YEARS enjoy it while you still can it wont be round much longer ... a handful of young soulies aint enough to preserve it.

Yes it's a shame its ending there is too much bickering and falling out. Most people like to dance and always enjoy the soul venues. Pity people spoil it for others. Loved Kingsway. Shame most of the regulars won't be there lol kaz xXxX

Right, had my 4 fried chickens ,big mac, shredded wheat, white toast& a coke ,whilst watching complete box set of strange world of northern soul & this England ,also read the' In Crowd' & listened to 10 cd s of the top 500 all i need now is to get Lesley out the bloody door!!It goes like this - me standing in kitchen about 8 o'clock trying to keep cats from swinging on me baggies with toe of me brogues, giving her a look that says ' you getting ready or what' , her giving me one back that says f**k off i'm a woman , allways ends up running round like one of those blue arsed things ,would'nt mind if we were going out somewhere posh but we gonna be p**s wet through 10 mins after arriving at KWH . may be one day we will all pull together eh, i should koko .

Just found out that Carl has decided to call it a day. I can only offer respect for Carl, val and Ian Gee for the friendship and support they have shown to myself and Ann since we first found our way to Kingsway a few years ago. Ian gave me advice and direction regarding my collecting and D J,ing and the venue has always given me a feeling of turning the clock back. The supporters of this venue will move on and I have no doubt that Kingsway Hall will remain as a fond memory in the years to come. The decision won,t have been taken lightly, respect to all involved with this venue. We are on our way to join you guys tonight. Kev & Ann.

Such a shame to hear of this closure .. too late to suddenly change plans tonight cos picking people up for Manchester .. kingsway has been a great northern soul night giving so much pleasure and fun to so very many people over the years. . But in truth all things run a course no matter how good .. The test of time has been easy here. . If you love northern soul it has been one of tbe places to be with no doubt ..the past few years visits have by no means been regular as they once was for us. . Working or promoting most every weekend has taken its toll on many things..not always for the better... well done Carl and Ian .. promoting is no easy task .. you both done the scene proud In your way and stuck to it .. have a great last night .. and see you out on the floor soon i hope Atb pete n' susan

Sad to hear that KH is closing well done to Carl for keeping the Northern Soul flag flying high in Mansfield,a great town with Soul traditions. There's no doubt some promoter will be at The KH like a shot to carry on the format.Who ever it maybe,I know the charity trust value their Northern nights has special.

well that's it done dusted and now finished Kingsway is no longer !!! thanks to everyone who  came to share the dance floor for the last time, 17 yrs is an amazing achievement to keep an event running, cherish those memories that carl piper and ian gee as given you. The scene as changed a lot, people have been slated over their choice in clothes, what you should or should not wear arguments, and the dreaded argument of what you must play and what you mustn't play ... its gone a bit over the top ... sad though when a dj,dancer, promoter and absolutely brilliant guy as had enough of the carry on !!! ... however there is light at the end of the tunnel as carl will still be promoting IVE GOT SOMETHING GOOD in spain .

Great night last night, so sad it was the last ever at Kingsway. Always loved this place, with an atmosphere that is second to none. Bit disappointing that not many of the 'old school' were there for the last one. We have now got 17 years of really good memories going right back to Rainworth Miners Welfare, thanks to Carl and Ian.x Tina & Phil.

A really big thank you Carl for the past 12 years (for us). Had some belting times at KWH and, like everyone agrees, run by the nicest bloke on the scene. We were made to feel welcome from the first time we came and you always made sure you had a word with everybody in the place if you could. That's a proper promoter!

Awsworth, The Shed, Annesley, Bentinck, Pilsley, and now KWH. Sad times, agree with Tommo, nobody's getting any younger and it will eventually die out 'cos there's not enough young uns taking to it. Like the saying goes, 'you don't know what you've got til it's gone,'

Thanks again,

God bless and let's hope Ian has a speedy recovery.

Hi Carl so sorry we couldn't be there on Saturday. As you know you together with Ian plus Kingsway became a part of mine and Jo's life from first walking through them doors all them years ago, I have been thinking so long and hard what to write, but maybe just say it as it is lol. The most awesome venue I have ever had the pleasure to dance in, be part of, and even to call it my home venue, even if we do live over 60 miles away. I will ring you soon mate once I get my head around there being no more Kingsway, to emotional at the moment mate.

Thank you Carl, Ian and Val for making us apart of your Soul Family

Having worked the decks at Kingsway a couple of times I can say the soulies from this area are lovely people,Ian G.and Carl became special and I mean special, friends of mine.Sorry to hear your area is beset by the problems now seemingly common, countrywide. How strange to hear people talking in terms of 18 years ago being a second golden age,but when I knocked about with Ian and Carl those times certainly were, anyway all the best to the East Midlands faithfull from Barnoldswick and Burnley soul crew, xx Roman and Wendy

Spoke to Carl this morning. Really sad news about this great venue. I like Roman have DJd at this friendly club and it comes as a bit of a shock that this is the end of an incredible journey. Many Thanks Ian & Carl for giving Bev and I some wonderful memories. I would also like to thank the many people who have come to support us on our regular visits.

Best Wishes Ian & Carl from Des & Bev.xx
