Couldn't have asked anymore, wow, what a great turnout for the Roots Room, absolutely rammed, Many thanks to all the DJ's (see playlists) and to the people who continually come and support the room. Got no idea how the other rooms faired for numbers and why would I have, just dare not leave the Roots Room, so many tunes, so much going on, such a great vibe. My remit is the Roots Room and this night just topped the lot, many many many thanks to everyone, now onwards and upwards, next Roots Room at Norwich alldayer 20th August hosted by the legend himself Billy Whizz, then it's October 1st at the Manhattan with the best band in the North, 'The 5:15's '  Bring it on

Another impressive Charity Soul Alldayer to fund the Professor and his team researching a sustainable cancer cure. The Charity Soul team work tirelessly and professionally for no remuneration so nothing but admiration for what they are achieving and edging ever closer to this years' £50k target.

Saturday at The Manhattan was a trifle warm , saw a traditionally busy Northern Room and great to see Billy Whizz and John Muir, all the way from Norwich,  behind the decks with some quality oldies. Also caught Sammy Seaman & Stu Richards double decking - they seemed to instinctively know what their DJ partner was playing or going to play and how to complement - great ovo.
Nice to also see Di Layton make her debut in the 'modern' room.
As for 'Dekka's Roots Room' although it had a 5.30 start time, prior to that John Muir played an excellent early doors set. As the evening progressed it was busy, very busy and only waned when 30 minutes of continuous dancing became too much for some and 50 or so had to congregate outside (despite the aircon in the Roots Room ) in the fresh air or for a smoke, or in the adjacent bar which also served tasty food, including there now legendary chilli.
Neil Lee's 'Gettin to the Point ' Summer Special certainly delivered with his residents Mark Thomas and John Drake plus guest Danny Coates and Lee Miller along with Roots Room residents 'Dekka'  and my self privileged to join these guys behind the decks. Musically a million miles away from the more commercial /populist 'mod' sounds on the Northern scene and certainly found favour - with the numbers attending from far and wide, many 'suited and booted' and on the dance floor.
From a personal point of view, Lee Miller's set (particularly the never previously heard by me acetates) and Mark Thomas's sets just pipped it, but a close run thing as all the djs pulled out all the stops with vinyl gems.
Well done 'Dekka' for another outstanding 'Roots Room' and Neil Lee for bringing his team and guests for the 'Special'.
Not to be outdone by Neil's Special, the next 'Dekka's Roots Room' at the Manhattan continues to bring some of the best mod djs around - this time from Scotland,  hosted by Brian Cardno (Soul in the Basement, Barrels - Berwick on Tweed) on Saturday 22nd October. Prior to that one, there's something a bit different on Saturday 1st October which includes the 5:15s live
As with all Dekka's Roots Room /Charity Soul events at The Manhattan, there's no obligation discounted adv tickets available.

Another exceptional lineup of guests for the Roots Room . This time it's Neil Lee's curated 'Getting to the Point' Modernist special  .....

As with previous Roots lineups and those earmarked for the future , it reads like a 'who's who' of the best Mod  djs around .

I would just like to add that Billy whizz and John muir will also be DJing in the main room , those boys want to travel all the way from norwhich under their own steam and DJ for us , which is fantastic in itself , to cap it all Billy is promoting a charity soul event in norwhich in August , all organised by himself and his friends , to raise money for the prof and ensure charity soul has presence in east anglia , so many thanks Billy , John , if you guys want to come and DJ for us then that's no problem at all boys !!!! Welcome on board my friends !!!!!

That's great news, I know Billy and John are enthusiastic supporters of Charity Soul and everything it stands for so hats off to the boys, well done Toc, all rooms gonna be banging on the night,

May I say that everything is pointing to a lock out on the night unless you have tickets, I know for a fact the Roots Room with the Neil Lee Special will be rammed and by the looks of things so will the other rooms, my advice is why take a chance, reserve your tickets now

Just read this post from Dekka - looks like being another busy one.

'I'm block booking the Roots Room for advanced reserved tickets at £7,

so when you arrive at the door just say you are here for the Neil Lee Getting to the Point summer special and you only have to pay £7 rather than on the door price of £10, I do advise get there early as it's first come first served

cheers

Dekka'

Hello Andy, I realise you don't do facebook, so yep, absolute fabulous response to this event, Neil Lee and his mates have a fantastic following and yes it looks like most of them will be at Harrogate, obviously suited and booted peeps will only get the nod if they say they are here for the Getting to the Point Special, so I would advise everyone to get there early to avoid disappointment or pre book your tickets, it seems however, even the big Northern Soul DJ's are seeing the light and even the Northern Soul fraternity are turning Mod so why not come and see and hear it from the originals, Neil Lee special not to be missed

Will be making tracks to Manhattan after our 'fact finding mission' (lol) to San Javier, Murcia, with the possibility of Charity Soul going International, we've got an international dj and someone who drinks for Europe so we are on the look out for a suitable venue:)Manhattan 23rd July0002.jpg

wow !  another fabulous charity soul event rushing up in the wonderful spa town of Harrogate . After Englands crap performance in the Euros and the rubbish weather this is just the tonic I need . Hotel sorted. need to start compiling a few tunes for the modern room. Looking forward to hooking up with Lodgie and the boys in the Modern room and of course to having a wander round the superb Northern and Roots rooms ,always a good vibe in those .  get those tickets on the numbers above . I know enough about the Modern room D.Js to be sure no one rests on their laurels , superb selection of tunes from  x-over to  2016 quality new release soul. sounds like the charity soul on tour [ Whitby ] was another quality event ,look forward to hearing about that. and of course rushing up to that magic  FIFTY THOUSAND pounds raised for the charity.

see ya there

For those who haven't reserved those discounted adv tickets, don't miss out .

There's still a small amount of merchandising space available - any record dealers should text Dekka to reserve .

Harrogate soul rushing up now . even the sun is coming out . great live band added to the event . each room with its own distinct flava . certainly in the Modern room the boys will be bringing a massive variety of the thing termed '' Modern soul'' .  not just the bangers, not just the steppers, not just the x-over not just the soulful house and soulful R&B and Boogie but the quality side of all those things . late 60s - 2016 class.  see ya on the dance floor .  tickets can be ordered and picked up at the front desk with no obligation on the numbers above . forget the gym get on that dance floor . best cardio going.

Having just got home from a mind blowin', fantastic,  incredible ,  weekend in Murcia (for Charity Soul business reasons ) all I can say is keep reading Soul Source site and Facebook for news of what a bunch of dedicated, volunteer, NON POCKET FILLERS have achieved and have potentially got in store for soul music aficionados in the UK and Spain.

This takes in to account that Senor TOC has just won the Gold medal for the amount of San Miguel consumed during this market research period (LOL), we nearly lost our Merchandise manager who decide to 'go walk about' during this episode and our International DJ (LOL) was mistaken for Sid James/Frank Sinatra/Bernard Bresslaw (work out that connection).  Yours truly remained the only sane, sensible person and a credit to Gods Own County through-out this bizarre series of events although I have now got numerous bookings to sing in various Irish bars in Murcia:ohmy:

The Manhattan now beckons for our next megga charity fundraiser, so if you want to keep abreast of the goings on at the greatest Prostate Cancer fundraising event in the UK get on down to Harrogate

Just sat chilling with a cool cider before I go up the apple n pears to prepare for another great day tomorrow at the Manhattan lounge , where arguably it could be our best day ever there , the roots room should be mega with the response we have had , the main room should be " business as usual " , I'm doing the last hour so I'll have to be on my best behaviour and lodgies " modern room " should be just the usual " busy room " so all in all it should be something special for our fight against cancer , unfortunately the prof can't make it as he has guests over from Italy , but he told me they have received our latest cheque which was from Steve n Julie from the buck inn at Whitby which was for £1000 which takes our total to £37k in 37 months , wow not bad from a standing start , so let's hope we have a great day and get to the £40k mark after the weekend , so here's to a fantastic day and hopefully we will see you all there , atb Toc
