Lowton Xmas Special coming your way on Friday December 9th. It's been a funny old year at the Home of Soul. On the upside the fantastic 20th Anniversary celebration in Feb, then the lows of the break-in and complete vandalism of the venue and missing the April event because of that, then the fantasic nights we've had since then with numbers building and building, as old faces came back and new faces joined but all through that the music, the reason I personally love Lowton, has been outstanding. So I thought over the next few days I'd feature a tune that has been played this year i'd ive thought 'WTF?' or 'how good does that sound?' Please add any to the tread if the mod takes you or if there's any you'd like to hear on December 9th....Here's the first

Our Special Guest for December and a Lowton regular Ginger Taylor has made this a MoNsTeR over the last 12 months...TUNA!

Today's featured tune is one that got a proper airing at the last Lowton during an excellent spot from Lowton regular Wigan Paul (Paul Shirley) creating quite a buzz from an appreciative crowd. Destined for big things this...also available as a bona-fide release on Soul Junction records.

Aside from having and amazing collection with some of the scenes' biggest tunes at his disposal, at every night at Lowton Kev Murphy has a knack of pulling out a great underplayed oldie, whether it be a Wigan 'middle of the night' spin a 'forgotton' Stafford tune or a Mecca 'Last Hour' ditty. He'll pull it from the crates and suprise us all, and this record is no exeption. As one of the originators and driving forces of Lowton Civic Hall he know what makes Lowton that litle bit special...take a listen

Todays featured tune from this year at LOWTON comes from regular and one of the DJ 'team' Les Harrison. Avid collector, dedicated Northern Soul fan and DJ, along with partner Sue can be seen at some of the most influential venues in the North West on a regular basis. During one of his guest spots at Lowton Civic this year he dropped this little ditty. Not heard it played out for many a year it caused a stir among fellow DJ's and filled the floor, watch this go...

Really looking forward to a very special night for a host of reasons....we'll be busy decking out the foyer with festiveness as we approach Christmas and as usual, there will be a mad dash for the sweeties!!

it's a double Birthday celebration, and its a CITY v UNITED one at that for me and Denton's TONY BENT, who's popping over to see us for the first time. hopefully we'll be welcoming a lot of newcomers as LOWTON has the happy knack of doing just this, and has done throughout its remarkable longevity.

AND....it goes without saying, we're celebrating 20 MAGNIFICENT SOULFUL YEARS!!

This particular Santa's SACK-FULL-O'-SOUL is bursting with Christmas crackers from some of the most expensive vinyl on the planet to some of the cheapest underplayed gems available, covering the whole soul spectrum.....its what LOWTON has done and always will...it's our trademark.

HO HO HO!! 5 1/2 HOURS of dance floor action of the highest order, the North West's biggest name djs...PLUS! from Todmorden wonderland, our very own SANTA TAYLOR.....THEE KOOLEST FRIDAY NIGHT YULE EVER NEED!!...come and join us coz, it aint gonna be no SILENT NIGHT!:hatsoff2:

First heard ROBBO play this at LOWTON, a few years ago, to be honest....and finally got a copy.....what a stunning, powerful B-side to a pop classic!!, deserves to be heard more often and for more enterprising djs to jump on....it just pounds along!!

Today’s featured track comes from official ‘meeter and greeter’ at Lowton, Rob Haigh. After numerous guest spots at Lowton, Rob is now finding favour with many Northern promoters as a steady hand, delivering well thought out sets, combining some great oldies including, Vickie Baines, Tobi Lark, Bobby Valentin, Hector Rivera and staying in that latin mood this great record which he’s featured this year at the Home of Soul. Pop through the doors and on to the dance floor this Friday to this little gem…

Flexing his musical muscles early doors is a favourite past-time for Lowton regular (I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of time he’s missed it) Mr Kev McCue, and flex them he does on a regular basis. This year Kev has shown his fondness for ‘girly’ dancers and in particular when there’s a deep beat behind emotive female vocals. Such has been the case with spins such as Fran Jeffries immaculate ‘Gone Girl’, Liz Verdi ‘Think It Over’ and Lucille Matthis I’m Not Your Regular Woman, but this gets the feature. Plucked from obscurity, and thrust before the masses for their aural delight and edification, courtesy of Mr McCue I give you….Linda Lloyd

So there I am stood at the bar at the Orwell in Wigan, chatting away. It was one of our special events where we had multiple rooms and on this night we had some fantastic DJ’s, this particular instance was possibly THE best of the best, BUTCH. So I’m standing there and it was tune after tune, record after record, some known, some unknown but every one, superb. Then a record comes on that hit me straight away and I said, “I’ve GOT to know what this is”…so off towards the decks I go, Butch, WTF is this? ‘Just Brothers’ comes the reply, no title, just that. So off I go, thinking, I’ll get one of those, little did I know! So, after years of searching, I get the full story, acetate, Anderson, Vincent, Casino, Butch, swaps, the whole history of the ‘Just Brothers’ record, I’d fell in love with on first hearing. But the reason for my diatribe you ask (or maybe not). Secret Stash Records have done us all a big favour in hunting down the track and releasing it under its ‘real’ name and giving us more of us the opportunity to hear this wonderful piece of music. So join us and listen out for it at LOWTON Civic this Friday, you’ll be glad you did…
