  1. until

Very late on this, but i just thought this weekender was superb. From the Thursday night meet and greet through to the early hours on monday at Komet bar, the whole event delivered big time. Great dj sets, perfect venues and really friendly people. My highlight was the saturday afternoon dayer event. Many thanks for all involved in putting this on!
  2. For aesthetics I would get the Aus copy ( be it DOG rare). For sound quality I would get the US copy.....for overall value I would get the LP ( which incidentally Also got Australian release) as it is one of the best soul albums I have ever owned.
  3. I can be of help here. So Thursdays there is a soul night of sorts in Town where Vince Peach and Pierre Baroni dj from 9 till about 4 AM. This is at Cherry Bar and is always packed out.....it is a student night, but has lots of good records played, particularly early on. In addition on Thursdays there are also funk dj s playing in a bar two alley ways down called Go Go bar, which is like a cocktail bar. This is where Samantha Goldie plays. She is on here from time to time. If you let her know you are coming in advance she will probably pack a soulful box for the evening....she has some fine fine records! Particlualrly in regards to crossover and sweet stuff. There are soul nights ( of the Northern vein) but they are not always regular so it's worth checking out closer to the date. There are a shedload of Neo and new type soul bands around if thats your go and lots of them have put out 45s, which are avaliable locally.....think Cookin on 3 Burners and the like. There are quite a few record shops, but the best for soul music is probably Northside records in Fitzroy, which has all the new releases plus some decent crates of older stuff. There is a new soul night on the cards here which Myself, Samantha and a rocksteady collector are putting togather but I'm not sure what the dates are yet. Anyhow, there are a great little group of soulies here so don't hesitate to say hello:)
  4. Hey mate. The cheapest way to get this is on Australian CBS...by a mile. The flip side cia baby was a substantial hit here. In fact I believe it was the first single in Australia to be accompanied by a colour film clip. Lynne Randell grew up and was discovered in South East Melbourne where I come from. I see her 45s around a fair bit. Anyhow, I have a cheapish VG ( but plays fine) spare copy in you are interested. If your after a minter, than I'm sure someone on here will be able to help you out:)
  5. think I sold my Celebrity four for about 20 - 30 pounds. It gets put up at silly prices, but mine took ages to sell....just not a massive amount of interest to be honest. Good 45 though, yet to have its day in the sun.
  6. Hi, just wondering if anyone on here could advise me on reasonable prices on some of the following records. I picked them up recently from a collection of mostly clean and unplayed records and had no intention of parting with them....until a big want came up. Anyone have any ideas on good prices? I am usually ok with pricing stuff, but I think Australian stuff is much harder... All Australian Presses. - Soloman King — This beautiful Day — Columbia (“A” promo) - Barrino Brothers — Trapped in a love — Invictus Issue - Marvin Gaye — How Sweet it is — Stateside (stickered Promo) - Marvin Gaye — Baby Don’t you do it — Stateside (Stickered Promo) - The Elgins — Heaven Must have Sent you — Tamla Motown (“A” Promo) - Curtis Mayfield - Move on Up - Buddah - Issue - Formations - At the top of the Stairs - Issue ( Aussie issue of the British 70s re- issue?) All have been scanned and should be pictured below. Any advise would be much appreciated! All the best, Daniel.
  7. I feel sorry for the poor souls out there deciding they want to be a floor filling northern soul dj. They will be competing with many bidders to pick up all the records that so many people all ready own and play all the time. For the collectors out there looking to pick up records that they can simply play to themselves and maybe the world seems like a nicer place, I don't think theres any need to feel sorry for them. They are in a good place:)
  8. Barbara Cooper's "The Playground" is another goodie.
  9. always enjoyed Gil Bernal "This is Worth Fighting for".
  10. Right, just clearing out some Aussie 45s. I'm shipping from Australia, so postage is $3.50 within Aus and 5 pounds for international. All prices are in UK pounds. Happy to do returns within 7 days, minus postage, though this has never happened and I have sold quite a lot of records. I grade pretty conservatively and try to provide as much info as possible. One side is a cover of the Freddy King number “100 years” and the flip is a nice Bluesy pop number. Certainly a tough record on UK PYE and very much dog rare here on Australian Astor. The labels are a little grubby and there is a lightly penned name on one side. The Vinyl has some marks and at times plays with noise. 15 Bobby Freeman, S-W-I-M — ASTOR VG ( a pretty tough one on Australian Astor. Both labels are in great shape, but the vinyl is a bit marked. Both sides play through with lightish noise at times. 10 Doug Parkinson , You ain’t going nowhere without Me/ Now You’re On your own — SOUTHERN STAR VG /VG+ ( Now your on your own, is a stunning and much underrated piece of 70s soul music. Much rarer than I’ll be around, which of course was a minor hit here in Aus. This was actually an auction item for JM a couple of years back. This copy is more than fine for playing out. It just has some light marks. 15 - if you don’t know either side, have a squiz on YouTubeJ Millie — Bloodshot Eyes/ Tongue Red — FONTANA NZ (with large hole, not NOC) VG+ (stunning 45 with some marks on Vinyl, but both sides play pretty much perfectly. Anyhow, hope something takes your fancy, all the best, DanielJ Celebrity Four, Inspiration/ Honey tell me, TANGERINE PROMO VG , clean copy with an annoying mark on a side that causes clicks for about a minute, B side plays pretty much perfectly. Two great Northern cuts Listed at 150 elsewhere, this copy is 20 The Bonnevilles, Whisper to Me/ Don’t Break the spell of love, Private Stock VG- , look has WOL and the record has marks, but the a side plays through brilliantly, cleanly and loudly, whilst the flip plays through really well too. Two killer sides of obscure up tempo soul. 25 The Van Dykes, I won’t hold it against you/ No Man is an Island HUE (much rarer local Texas vinyl press) VG WOL + Marks on vinyl . Both sounds play through very well as it is a good press, but there is a bit of background noise in parts. 2 stunning sides of male group harmony soul. Other listed copy on the net is 125 . mine is 20 George and Lee You were made for me/ Nobody but you, INTERNATIONAL CITY VG, label wear and a warp. Actually a pretty clean 45. I believe this was a post Katrina New Orleans purchase, alongside many other records with label wear, but clean vinyl. The main issue with the record is the warp. It wobbles on the deck, but actually plays through without any noise defect that I can hear. Both sides play through VG+ at worst. 100 on JMs. This copy is 15 Odessa Harris , A Rockin Good Way, CAPITAL VG+, a small sticker on label + a few light scuffs. Plays through very loudly and clearly. Terrific catchy RnB tune 20 The Imaginations , Wait a little longer sun BALLAD VG+ , great copy , very very light ring wear. Both sides play through EX. Great little early soul 45 with a real doo wop vibe. Gets listed at hight prices quite a bit, but I paid 15 pounds for it, and thats what I’m selling it for. The Bonnevilles, Whisper to Me/ Don’t Break the spell of love, Private Stock VG- , look has WOL and the record has marks, but the a side plays through brilliantly, cleanly and loudly, whilst the flip plays through really well too. Two killer sides of obscure up tempo soul. 25 The Minx, Don’t mess with Bill, MERCURY EX great copy. Under the radar crossover with simply stunning vocals. One of my very few successfull spins at the recent Sydney Soul weekender! 20 The Spinners, Just can’t help but feel the pain VG+, has a light few marks + Drill house, but plays through loudly and clearly . Great play copy. 15 — bargain price Little Anthony and the Imperials , Better use your head VEEP VG+ , WOL and some light marks, but plays through brilliantly, still very much a nice copy. 20 The Objectives, My love went away Jewel VG , bit of WOL (see scan) and not terribly clean, but plays through very well. I have played this 45 out quite a bit. Bargain price at 15 The Heartstoppers, Just what the doctor ordered ALL PLATINUM VG , few marks combined with the poor quality of the pressing means it doesn’t play amazingly. But Still an enjoyable and obscure George Kerr produced xover cut. 10 Bill Sha- Rae Do it SPECTRUM VG+ A side plays through loud and clear and happy days. The flip, which is my preferred side plays with noise, which is a shame. A jack ashford and Lorraine Chandler record, can’t go to wrong at 10 Chubby Checker , At the Discotheque CAMEO- PARKWAY (UK) VG++, just one light mark on the vinyl, otherwise brilliant copy, here on a nice UK press. 20 Cheers for looking, Daniel:)

One of those records that I reckon has been lying round a radio station collection since the 70s.
