  1. Got to big up the guest for this month's installment, Senior Beggs, a true legend of the scene, when many choose to rest on the laurels and past discoveries after over 40 years consistently involved with the scene Johnny is one of very few still digging and coming up with exclusives, one offs and the just damm good and underplayed. Your just not going to hear the music he plays anywhere else. Get thee sen darn vere!
  2. Two nice cover versions that take the Gil Scott Heron and Brian Jackson originals into more jazz territories than soul.
  3. Many venues posture as underplayed, and what you get is rare oldies, the same rare oldies every month in some cases. You will hear something new and different at this venue!
  4. I know mike thought it was irrelevant but that's why I mentioned the education system, which is set up to get kids to pass exams, essentially grade then as people, rather than to prepare kids for life and it's expectations. Anyone on the spectrum, plus many more will struggle in a system like that, and that's just your start in life!
  5. Not really thought about it but that is interesting.
  6. If you've not seen toast of London, first thing that's made me laugh on TV for a long time.
  7. It's a pretty looking thing big I'd find it hard to imagine much more than a groovy copy, perhaps £50?
  8. I can't understand folk that think they need to comment on a thread they apparently find irrelevant.
  9. By 1987, regular coaches from nighters were a thing of the past, nighters finished at 8, and I'd often have to walk back to the bus station and sit on a national express for 4 hours!
  10. I good friend did said to me recently, ' the all nighter scene is full of broken people, trying to pick up the pieces'. I'm sure there's some truth in that.
  11. I see a lot of parallels on this scene with the extreme sports I've been involved with through my son. And I've met a few people who have been attracted to both in some form or other. Adrenaline and dopamine are a powerful and addictive substances but it's all about how it's managed within a lifestyle whether it's healthy or not. My experience as a teacher has taught me that's it's often the system and culture that has the difficulties not the learner's. And I certainly hear many people on the scene tell about bad experiences in education and struggling to fit into school life, sadly, for many today, that hasn't changed.
  12. I like the left field and love it, to totally honest, I'd say more off kilter than flatt personally. I wouldn't play it out though, well not at anything resembling a soul night. Sounds like Neil young on lead, albeit a young, Young
  13. Odd that it's his only record he sounds so confident in his delivery.
  14. Message me if interested, all cheaper than my discogs sales, no PayPal fees either. 15. Played through samples of quite a few on channel 4 news. An album's worth of jazz standards, fly me to the moon ect. He sounded in fine voice on the samples, however the material would perhaps be of less interest to soul folk, it could have almost been a tribute to old blue eyes! No original compositions or soul related material.
