  4. Various Northern Patches at various prices - from £10 - £60 . please ask for individual prices and any more information or wants.
  5. Most of the early venues never sold patches , very true , and the Wheel never did till Ivor saw a bit of a market to cash in on and even then they weren’t that great and just a copy of the design for the membership card . But others quickly saw that this was another form of potential lucrative income and started making them. People like Chris Burton really saw opportunities to make more of what devotees might want with his International Soul Club and started producing lots and lots of variations of stuff . Much later on, there was one guy who started making his own designed hand made patches and selling them - a bit like Soussan, just not out of the boot of his car.The old collectors out there will know who I’m talking about . Sadly he passed away a few years ago. They are like Marmite, some love them, while some others see them as all that’s wrong with the scene.
  6. Thanks for posting this Joan , and so sorry I missed the event . You have worked your socks off to get all of this done, so well done you . Hope you get better soon and pass on my regards to the old man . Steve & Shila .
  7. Interesting thread and like many, it’s one that can cause divide and controversy. It can bring up deep felt divisions and personal opinions that can sometimes be seen to be personalised . It shouldn’t . It’s all about personal taste and not about the credibility of what’s being presented . It’s good that we all don’t agree , it would be a sad old world if we did . However it does show the deep love and care that lovers of this music have, and hopefully will always have. If I’m honest, I hate the John Cleese sketch attitude of “ I look up to him but down to him “ take on things, because of what you know, or who you know, as we all have a valued say and opinion on the scene. There is a lot of BS, but also on here a hell of a lot of informative advice , information and knowledge, both given and at hand . That’s because people care and have a love of what they listen to . This has caused some controversy , just as the cameras getting into Wigan did , and Pye Disco Demand series , and no doubt there will be something else in the future ( I hope ) . For me , it was nothing to do with authenticity of either the performances or the songs , it was a celebration of the music we all love . Yes it wasn’t true to the originals , and yes you could say it was exploitative in a way. It was certainly not really all about Wigan cause I started off as a Highland Room lad and loved the Carstairs rendition they did. We may well all agree to disagree here and that’s always been part of the scene , but what I did find at the Albert Hall was like minded individuals that had traveled miles and the vast majority, if not all enjoyed themselves. I’ve been to many a concert at the Albert Hall , as I now live in London , but this Scoucer has never ever talked to as many different people on a night out there , why …. because Soulies are like that …. and long may it continue .
  8. Tony , agree completely, and that guy who sang “The Drifter “ was my highlight too. Don't forget that this was also an Orchestra that was threatened with severe cuts less than a year ago by the BBC and only saved by a huge petition . I get the fact that some want to only hear the originals done by original artists, but that ain’t going to happen any longer without it being on vinyl. This was a very close second and paid true homage to the music that we all love . The venue and all the artists were a fitting tribute to the all the past years . Well done BBC Proms.
  9. What a great night - did justice to everything , including Frank Wilson - just missed the orchestra doing “ Afternoon with the Rhino “

  12. 16 Days to go . £4,102 pleaded by 82 backers so far . With as little as £10 as a pledge and £20 for the book .. and hopefully an exhibition to go along with the book launch on its 40th Anniversary this year. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wigancasino/last-night-at-wigan-casino-0?ref=nav_search&result=project&term=last night at wigan ——————————————— Thank you all so much. The campaign is definitely heading in the right direction and we still have a couple of weeks to get new backers on board. It's amazing to think, when I see this project all over my social media all the time, that there are still thousands of people to whom this book would mean so much, who still haven't seen anything about it yet. But it looks as though we will have a small piece in tomorrow's Wigan Post. If you see it, please spread it around with the link. We're still beavering away at this end to make this book the best it can be. It's almost fully designed barring last minute tweaking, some of which we can't do until it is actually fully funded, such as the extended acknowledgements page ... Thanks again All the best Michael Show support and stay involved—Michael March
  13. Love this label as them find some really great old tracks but also match that with finding out as much as they can about the artist and present it all in a really classy way . For me their best is the Omnibus box set - of which I have 3 as they made different coloured 7” cases , and an amazing track list :- TRACK LIST The 13th Amendment Hard To Be In Love The 13th Amendment The Stretch Aggregation A Child Is Born Aggregation Can You Feel It Black Fur When We Get Together Soon Black Fur Feel The Shock Black Soul Express Party Time Black Soul Express When I Left You Crystal’s Image A Friend Crystal’s Image Crystal’s Image (Cold Crush Theme) Darker Shades Ltd. 14. Posted by Michael March Apr 19, 2021 View on Kickstarter For backers only A massive thank you for backing this book to everyone who has pledged so far. We're still working on it and trying to make it the definitive photobook of that era. We have all negatives digitally scanned and have removed forty years of dust and scratches and fingerprints. Casino DJ, Richard Searling has written his Introduction and we have captions and quotes from people who were there plus one or two bits of memorabilia. But this is book of memories, an emotional response to the photographs taken on that night, a celebration of music, dance and the exuberance of youth. We are planning and designing the pages to show off these qualities so that the book will make a splendid gift or addition to anyone's bookshelf. Thanks again. All the best Michael —————————————————— How many registered users are there now on here ? And how many regular contributors ? You would have thought that revival users of this site, combined with any via Facebook would have been able to push this over the line ? Are people fed up of the amount of books being released on the subject ? Do they not see this as a worthy project ? Just be interesting to find out what others think and feel regarding this project.
