  4. Impulse “In The Sky / I Really Do” (Shammara) VG++ £900 OVNO Excellent & still quite obscure modern soul, a cover of the Barrett Strong tune. I’ve had it once before, stamped as Green Light rather than Impulse. (Virtually M-, probably the cleanest copy ever to come up for sale) greenlight_inthesky.mp3 impulse_ireallydo.mp3 Friends & family payment, £8 postage within the UK, £11 overseas ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve thanks, George
  5. Aristocrats “Let’s Get Together Now / Ip Slippin Dippin” (Warner Bros) VG+ £250 (Light hairlines, plays perfectly) Friends & family payment, £8 postage within the UK, £11 overseas ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve thanks, George aristocrats_letsgettogether.mp3 aristocrats_ipslippin.mp3

  9. Email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve & pay as friends & family (no holds). Postage - £4 Signed For 2nd Class or £8 Special Delivery in the UK, £11 elsewhere. Full audio clips available by clicking the song titles. Images shown beneath the list. cheers, George Alphabetical by label - Rozaa “My Baby Knows Best / I’m Gonna Do My Thing” (Antone) VG+ £500 Rare Detroit female vocal with hard production, straddling midtempo northern and crossover. The flip is uptempo funk. The Domestic Five “It’s An Empty World / Two Wrong People” (Aquarius) VG / VG- £350 As great as the Jimmy Hamilton is – where group ballad meets funk, it surely gets no better than this. Nice sweet flip too. (Some label peeling/tearing, mainly to B side, quite common with this title) Reginald ‘C’ “Take All You Want, But Leave a Little Bit / Without You I’m Not Doing So Well” (Attack) VG £60 Lovely ballad. (Light surface scuffs only, but with some styrene groove wear) Mae Young “Let’s Give Our Love A Try / The Man Puts Sugar In My Bowl” (Big Mack) VG- £60 Unruly, breakneck funky northern double-sider from Detroit with gutsy vocals. (Label damage; plays pretty well, despite noticeable wear) The Congenial Four “You Played The Part (Of a Loser) / Freedom Song” (Capitol) VG+ £85 Recommended sweet soul with strong lyrics, funky flip. (Comes in company sleeve) Ernie Washington “Lonesome Shack / How About You” (Chattahoochie) VG+ £500 R’n’B sledgehammer, tough & dark as you like, with northern flip. (Light groove wear, plays well) 300 Years “Can’t Get Arrested” (Chuckles) strong VG £70 Successfully straddles the divide between breakbeat funk and disco, with some hallmark touches of the early New York disco era. The Shades of Love “Such Good Friends / A Woman Will Do Wrong” (Delon) strong VG to VG+ £500 Funky northern / crossover dancer with a female lead that gets right inside your system – truly infectious & uplifting. Solid harmony ballad on the flip, covering the Clarence Reid & Paul Kelly song that was done first (?) by Helene Smith. (Light wear. A side plays great, B side has some faint noise. A touch of ringwear, still looks ok.) Miss LaVell “Stolen Love” (Duke) VG+ £70 Dark R’n’B killer. (Unusually clean copy for this title) Lady Margaret & Perry Smith “Out In Space / Tripping With You” (Gemini) VG++ £135 Textbook 2-step space ballad and uptempo modern/boogie side. (Close to M- with slight warp only visible when uptempo side is playing) Hard Drivers featuring Vivian Lee “Since I Was A Little Girl” (Hawes) strong VG £300 Barnstorming soulful funk from New York, so much dancefloor hype going on here. (Small scratches, has lost some lustre, but plays strong) The Mighty Elegant “I Find Myself, Falling in Love With You / I Don’t Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky” (Jaber) VG- £45 Quality sweet soul with banging drums, funk flip. (Some ringwear. A lot of surface wear but plays really well, check the full clip) C.C. Jones “Find Yourself a New Thing” (King) VG+ £90 Minor key funky soul, thick with reverb & atmosphere, and still not that well known. Black Sugar “Baila / Sha La La (Means I Love You)” (Libra) VG++ £300 Strong 70s dancer from the Peruvian group on a gorgeous US pressing. The Black Exotics “I Hate Hate / Boogie To The Beat” (Mark I) VG+ £1000 Tough one from Georgia. The A side is one for the 70s connoisseurs, a group stormer that switches between modes with confidence & style, while the flip is a thumping boogie funk dancer. (Has lost some of its gloss, but looks clean & plays great) The Sheppard Bros. “If She Don’t Want You to Have It You Can’t Get It / Mr Fool” (Mojo) VG £400 Powerful uptempo funky soul with deep flip, produced by Calvin Arnold. (Both sides play pretty well, some label wear) Carol Jones “Don’t Destroy Me / Problem Child” (Mutt) VG+ £120 The horns version – which is the superior one, in my opinion. Barbara Joy “Sunday Again” (not on label - acetate) VG £1000 Uptempo & infectious modern dancer that seems to be a total one-off. Has a great underground disco vibe, similar to Gentle, with the band absolutely killing it. (Note: there is a release with the same artist & title, but it’s a ballad that sounds much earlier, and it isn’t any good. Some lacquer peel in run-out groove, not affecting play) Sam-Bo “Depend On Yourself” (Obeah Prod.) VG+ £150 Drama-laden intro leads into a funky islands stormer. Obscure and primed for dancefloor action. (A side label has thin scratch mark, does not extend into wax. Flip has date in pencil and small address stamp) The Lovations “(I Keep Singing) La La La Ooh / Heaven Told Me So” (Part III) VG+ £375 Warm crossover ballad par excellence. The northern flip is not to be sneezed at, either – this lot had the Midas Touch. (Drill hole, and a tiny bit of flaking to B side label. Disc surfaces look pretty clean) The Glorifying Vine Singers of Farmville, NC “I Believe” (Pinewood) VG++ £175 Lovely and very obscure version of The Impressions. (Clean copy. Slight dish, which is not visible when featured side is playing) Fredde Lowe “A Feeling of Love” (Polydor) VG++ £250 Excellent ‘70s dancer with strong vocal, ready to light up a dancefloor. Surely as rare as any of the well-known Polydor issue-only releases, yet it has never been properly auctioned, and remains unjustly overlooked. Will be sent in Polydor sleeve. Idris Muhammad “I’m A Believer / Rhythm” (Prestige) VG++ £135 SOLD Awesome crossover. (Close to M- with faint edge lift not affecting play) Michael Wycoff “Looking Up To You – Monohttps://app.box.com/s/y6mai70xq8n5cudhkqge7073xkjwwv79 / Stereo” (RCA demo) VG+ £85 Classic Teddy Huffam & The Gems “Guilty” (RUC) VG+ £250 Very obscure R’n’B stormer. (Rare, especially in this properly playable condition, in which it only seems to have come up for sale once) Danny Myers “Lord Plant My Feet on Higher Ground” / Wayne Barnes “Peacemakers” (Salvation Is Free) VG-/VG £1500 Tremendous ‘70s crossover / funky soul dancer, with an equally great midtempo / ballad side by a different artist. Seems to have only ever turned up a couple of times. (This copy looks to be the same one that was auctioned in 2017 by Carolina Soul, who chose to list it for the ballad: which I can only imagine was because the uptempo side has a partial label stain and some needle sway, although the music seems unaffected. I recorded it using a normal 45 adapter with no adjustment. The disc has lost some of its shine and has some light feelable scratches, hence grade, but plays really well on both sides.) The Fugitives “Love Come Down / Good Lovin’ If You Can Get It” (Sandman Productions) VG++ £100 SOLD Slow-burn minor key funky soul heartache with slicing horns, and swinging northern flip. El Shobey & Co. “Never Missed What You Got / Whole Thing” (Shout) VG+ £65 SOLD I wish more records sounded like this: pathos-laden crossover in minor key, with rugged production, amazing drums and serious mobility. Pitch it up to gain maximum dancefloor benefit. Funky soul at its very best, there’s also a break on the flip. The Deceptions “Success / Part 2” (Stone Gold) VG to VG+ £250 Easily the rarest and least-known record by the unit responsible for “You’re Gonna Run To Me,” “People” and “Of All The Hearts” would be this bumpy ‘70s group funk number, released on the cusp of switching their name to Peace, Justice & Equality. Maybe not as strong as those other records, but still pretty good! (Labels appear to be reversed, because the instrumental version is on the side that says Part 1. That side has a sticker and small tearing) Child of Friendship Train Robbers “Will You Answer / Giving Up” (Suncoast Artists) strong VG- £30 Excellent sweet soul from Florida. (The flip of this is pressed extremely quiet, although it grows louder as the song gets going) Charles Davis “Rush” (Sutra) VG+ £130 Excellent uptempo modern dancer, a rare issue-only track. (Wol) Gwen Carter “No Never” (TCS) VG £150 Uptempo funky 70s / modern, feel-good & powerful. Quite hard to find. (Label staining, wear, plays pretty well) James Thompson “Troublin Mind / I Believe” (Tomika) strong VG £250 Stunning sweet soul double sider. I love the featured song, because it ticks a lot of boxes for me, but the flip is just as good, and might well be the side for a lot of sweet collectors out there - the falsetto climax is no joke. A tough & obscure one, produced by Hilton Felton. (“Troublin Mind” has a single small surface scratch, but plays well. “I Believe” looks pretty clean.) Willis Wooten “Your Love Is Indescribably Delicious / Do The Train” (Virtue white demo) VG++ £25 Storming dancer, funk flip.
  10. Sheepherders “If Ever You Need Me” (Sounds International) very strong VG £1200 ONO Has a couple of small scratches but plays extremely well, as you can hear. (Ballad side is musically weak and plays with some noise) See below for audio & photos. Email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve. Payment as friends & family, £8 in the UK or £11 elsewhere. thanks, George sheepherders.mp3
  11. Danny Myers “Lord Plant My Feet on Higher Ground” / Wayne Barnes “Peacemakers” (Salvation Is Free) Strong VG- / VG £2000 Tremendous ‘70s crossover / funky soul dancer, with an equally great midtempo / ballad side by a different artist. Seems to have only ever turned up a couple of times. See below for photos & audio. The disc has lost some of its shine and has some light feelable scratches, hence grade, but plays really well on both sides.) Email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve £8 UK postage, £11 elsewhere, payment as friends & family or bank transfer payment please. thanks, George dannymyers.mp3 waynebarnes.mp3
  12. Strong VG to VG+ £275 SOLD See below for photos & audio. (Flip is VG, and there’s a slight dish noticeable only when that side is playing. A touch of foxing to label which is not noticeable) Email ruralconcourse@yahoo.com to reserve £8 UK postage, £11 elsewhere, payment as friends & family or bank transfer payment please. thanks, George royroberts_gottohave.mp3
