  5. I have and play Brenda Holloway - Reconsider on Stardust. As far as I'm aware it's the only vinyl 45 available. Always goes down well. Green label, although others I've seen are pink. Is the pink a boot of a boot, boot of an original, original with a green boot, or...........?
  6. Bit of a pattern here Julian? "Hi Tony L'Ambassador was on Melbourne Terrace ( I think) near the University - Kegsy will probably be able to confirm the exact address as we were both there when it got 'raided' and we ended up in the cells all night!! Think this was the night that Swish played the record deck without putting a 45 on first! I wonder why? String of Beads was on Manor Row" Julian "It was the night the Metro got closed down that many of the soulies arrived at Lord Jim's in Huddersfield ( the queue stretched around the corner of the building) that the management decided to 'sack' me as the DJ as the music I and others like Les Cokell, who helped me out, were championing, was attracting the 'wrong sort' of clientele - ah well, all good things come to an end - it freed me up to be able to do the Hernies allnighters in Leeds ( before that got raided and closed as well)." Julian "Hi there T.C. Yes, it was one the corner of Roundhay Road and Harehills Lane - run by Dennis Billingham - I have/had a handwritten poster for this venue ( but can't bloody find it) think it was dated sometime in 1972 - there was alot of press coverage in the Yorkshire Post at the time following the 'raids' - Kim Dent ( I think that was his name) from Blackpool was always being quoted about the 'drugs'and soul scene and how they travelled the country attending different venues. I believe Kim died of an overdose not long after, but I may be wrong on this one." Julian "Pretty sure it was an Irish bar then ( although the soul 'do' was upstairs) remember when it got 'busted' - I was DJing at the time and the DJ area was behind wooden poles ( you had to lift up the left hand poles to remove them to gain entry) the cops couldn't figure this out, so whilst the 'raid' was going on, I kept playing tunes - they were seriously pissed off at the time. Seem to remember I finished with Bob Brady's Goodbye Baby on Chariot ( green label) before they finally decided how to get at me!! Great days." Julian I'm glad I never followed you around back in the day Julian. I could have ended up doing serious time for my recreational habits!! Ronnie
  7. Below is info about a repress from Benjamin himself, on a wants thread from January. Hello from NYC everybody! popped in to give a Benjamin update. Light Of My Life is getting a repress that will arrive along with a NEW 45 in the spring. A full length LP will follow in the summer and i suspect i'll be seeing you all in the flesh very soon after that. i did make an LP in 2015 called Arriving. it's more in the modern soul / boogie lane. https://benjaminofcherries.bandcamp.com/album/arriving as always i am THRILLED with the support of the northern soul scene! Ben
  8. Relatively recently I've bought new releases I've liked and which have had a limited production run. These records were not specifically made for the Northern scene but have caught on and become wanted items that have changed hands for many times original value. Some have been repressed relatively quickly, sometimes on a different label and usually with a different "b" side. I realise that 2nd pressing of classics does not usually diminish the value of originals, indeed it may even help to increase value through wider exposure etc. Kent Select and Town releases don't seem to have affected the value of original 100 club records. It will be interesting to see whether these contemporary records keep their value. Specifically, I 'm thinking about, Smoove and Turrell - I can't give you up - Club Tikka, re released on Jalapeno. Benjamin and the Dream dancers - light of my life - Palmetto St, due for another repress. Any thoughts?
  9. Looking for a copy of Rainbow road, demo or issue. PM please with condition, price. Cheers, Ronnie
  10. Might be difficult and expensive to get an original, but good news below Hello from NYC everybody! popped in to give a Benjamin update. 11. Fred Hughes overlooked and double sided. Brilliant midtempo "as long as we're together" on t'other side.
  12. Don't know if this should be massive, but certainly one for the dance floor. Old school Otis Redding tune. released 1988. 2-3 quid on discogs
  13. Please PM me with condition and price if you have a copy for sale. Cheers, Ronnie
  14. Still looking, waiting expectantly, thrill of the chase, need it badly, searching high and low and any other metaphors that fit! Unfortunately money only stays in my pocket for so long. There is always another record to buy, booze to drink or even something important to spend it on. Someone, please stop me from spending it on a useless household implement for my wife , trip to the dentist, new pair of strides that won't fit me in 6 months time etc. PM me...............................................
