shelly Posted December 9, 2011 Author Share Posted December 9, 2011 All, The reason I put played before '73 was that after that, there was a tremendous amount of pop crap being played because of the beat, vocals didn't matter that much(wigan late 74-77) though there where some great sounds as well during that period, but, prior to '73, most of the sounds by white artists listed here you would have thought were black; in fact, there's a few mentioned that I still thought were black till I read on this thread. In a nut shell, they were soul records in general whilst a lot of the enormous amount of post '73 white plays where dubious to say the least. My opinion. Yes i remember playing( Bobby Paris Personaly) discoverd by Brian Tompkins.who gave me this record to play at the Bletsoe allnighter in 1971. what other pop records did i play first OH YES( Pual Anker When we get there) wow there were loads.that still get plays around the country today. New Beats "Run Baby Run" Lou Christie "Lightning Strikes" 4 Seasons "Let's Hang On" Also used to own an LP called British Blue Eyed Soul on Island with various artists including Spencer Davis, Elke Brooks and Chris Farlowe. Another Album I had was Albino Gorilla with their Motown covers, I think "Shake Me Wake Me" was released as a single and assume they were white but can't remember if it was played out before 1973. The worst white record that was played out prior to 73 has to be Bryan Hyland "The Joker Went Wild" sad to say I still have a copy. Might stick it on EBay. I'm really interested to hear that the Brian Hyland record was played prior to 1973. It was reactivated in 1979 and became massive for a few weeks.
