I guess moving to the first weekend of the holiday fortnight may well have gone against us this month with the number of visiting soulies falling to the lowest figure in the past ten months. Nevertheless the fifty plus who did turn out were treated to a good mix of music from a newbie DJ to The Hydro " Chris Walker" and a stalwart of the scene, a DJ who will grace most established venues, " Nige Grice".

As I say numbers were down but the Hydro Soul Club atmosphere wasn't deminished.

Chris's Walkers mix of sounds showed an extensive mixture of music from the early 60's through to modern day and even latino influences, perhaps a few sounds thrown in that The Hydro would not normally be associated with but Chris showed willing and made every effort to involve everybody in the room with his selection of tunes. As I say this was Chris's first time on the decks at Hydro Soul Club and his travelling followers gave him good support on the dance floor.

Nige Grice, making his third visit to Hydro Soul Club did 90 minutes of sounds that he is noted for. Brighouse favourites and some real classics thrown into the mix with a few labels that left the few label influenced fans in the room showing appreciation. Numbers were a bit thin on the ground by the time Nige reached the end of his spot at just after midnight but Nige, Kate and a dozen or so stalwarts were still putting requests through long after our normal lights up time.

Thanks to both our guests on the night, both of whom worked their socks off.

Even with a smaller than usual turn out we managed to achieve our target for this years charity donation. With one of our regulars having been rushed to James Cook hospital at the start of the year with a heart problem, another supporter currently under the care of heart specialists, having been placed in a coma for three days to aid his recovery, (we wish Geoff Miller a full and speedy recovery) as well as several past supporters, DJ's and close friends who have all been given the benifit of specialist heart units throughout northern England, although having previously donated to The British Heart foundation, we will once again be donating £500 to the same foundation this year.

We have to say thanks to those who continue to support our small venue. Those who travel and those who don't need to travel. Many of whom have been with us over the eight years so far and many who come along infrequently, for their much appreciated support and assistance in helping us to continue our annual drive to help various good causes.

We will be back again on Sat August 27th with Smudge Smith making the long journey from Peterboro to entertain the Hydro crowd.
