Thanks for starting this me. Glad you and Andy got back safely. It was our pleasure to get you on the "Wheels Of Steel" and for you to grace our dance floor at "The Waterfront".
Thank you for making the event absolutely awesome. You definitely brought the sunshine up with you from Hinckley.
Big thanks to all who attended and enjoyed the warm weather whilst listening to a myriad of soulful tunes and having a few drinks. Hope you all enjoy the complimentary CD kindly and beautifully compiled by our own Dale Byers. Wonderful to see Carl and Maria, Craig (& his lovely lady) and Paul, Stephen & Lydia (Leeds), Lynni & Dave & Mike(Harrogate), my good friend from Liverpool - Gerry Murphy and his funky drummer pal - Andy. Great to talk music history with you guys - I learn something new everyday. Great to see many other faces that are new to us that also graced us with their presence, so thank you and hope to see you Saturday 10th September.
And as always the dj's just keep doing their thing. Loved the Merry Clayton theme to "Barreta" played by Sam and a couple of Dales female floaters. They just strike some sub-conscious chord and make you go "Yowzer!!!!" Great to again have Mr "Bearsoul" Morgan strutt his stuff not just behind the decks but also on the dance floor. Mr Stuart Green also ripped it up and included a gem or two from Spanky Wilson, H. B. Barnum produced. And Mr Bellwood keeps dropping soulful ska and modern grooves in a retro style that make your face light up.
Huge thanks to all at City Screen for keeping the beer flowing and the food coming. Amy and her bar crew were just awesome and Mr T. Clarke is just too cool for words. Hope the Green Man festival is a lot of fun for you this week Mr. C. Thanks also to Beth and Mandy for their help in getting the equipment there and back. Don't know what I'd do without you guys x.
Playlists and pics to be added shortly so keep looking.
Cheers Y'All,
Jay Cee

All’s not lost as the evening event (and a soul film during the day ) looks like being a more than adequate substitution followed by hopefully an announcement by Jay of a comprehensive programme of Waterfront Blues N Soul Chill out and other events in 2012 .
Standing room only from the start and great to see Stu Richards and YKSoul’s Simon Wragg early doors , then Richard Bayley with his now familiar 'Sunday bohemian look' at bit later, and what a surprise when the Willingham’s walked in as part of the Manchester contingent . Lovely to also catch up with Ashley & Kerry , Sophie & Christine.
Musically , the Waterfront is hopefully a little different from the other excellent York Soul events in its music of black America/African influences and delivery , so perhaps a bit of Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman and Roland Kirk next time guys ?.
Guest DJ,Soul Purpose’s, Sam Evans showed why she is held in such esteem on the scene & behind the decks, and she couldn’t resist the little bit of that fantastic wooden dance floor available for the chill outs (which is cleared of seating for the evening events) . Loved the magical mix of 7ts, modern and soulful Jamaican and for me some particularly standout tracks (McKay, Merry Clayton etc)
As Jay said earlier the residents were on top form - uninhibited , free styling ( looking forward to the play lists guys) and made the summer finale all the more memorable for all the right reasons.
Equally enjoyable for me was spinning a few to a great reaction -
Johnny Nash ‘love ain’t nothing’
Pioneers c/u ‘Papa was a rolling stone‘
Bob Andy ’Save me’
Wicked Lester ’gay with an e’ (aka ‘ain’t no mountain high enough’ )
Doris Troy ‘what’cha gonna do about it’
Gene West ‘ In the ghetto‘
Diana Ross ‘Stormy’
Little Willie J ’The pressure’
Shepdog ’I heard it through the grapevine’
R L Burnside ’Its bad you know’ - request
Alicia Keyes ‘Karmastition’
Marlena Shaw ‘Touch me in the morning’
Raphael Saadiq ‘Love that girl’ - request

Hi Raphi,
Yes, a great time was had by all. Looking forward to seeing you and enjoying the mix you will bring to The Waterfront B & S Club. Oh yes, "the real ale" - Andy has warned me about your love of the "flat stuff" - lol. There is plenty to keep your taste buds watered. Plus the food is excellent. Many folk were chomping away to the tunes - a replacement for the chewing gum in some cases - lol.
See ya soon squire,
KTF,
