As a resident , not the promoter(or promoters messers. Cooper to be correct), I hope no one will feel that Im out of turn to start this thread :wicked:   .
Now all I can really say is that support for this , the second such event, was, on a busy Bank Holiday weekend, to say the least spectacular!!
The place really filled up very quickly indeed , and was soon packed and the dancefloor action started right away, even though the Midtempo Soul selections early doors by Mick were far from your average Soul night "dance" tracks people were up on the floor to some choice tunes right away. In fact it caught everyone on the hop a bit as the temperature quickly rose , Barry hurriedly setting up some fans to cool the dancers down a little :sweatingbullets: .
Cracking sets from the evenings guests Mark Whitely and Mick and Mo followed with a couple of half hour slots from myself in between and Barry finishing off after 12 to celebrate his birthday in great style  .
I had a couple of comments that I might have come very close to straying above Midtempo :shhh:  ( although these records would be probably be considered more as beat ballads to the average 100 mph fan  ) I took the approach that the tempo should be judged like an average speed camera on the road , the odd slightly faster track here and there counterbalanced by the by the odd downbeat tune in return.
I really cant thank everyone that turned up to support the night enough , as always a night really is nothing without the people that turn out and and support it ,such a fantastic crowd last night really was a pleasure to play a few tunes !!
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE FOR ME ,WAS THAT IT WENT BY TOO DARN FAST

Don't apologise for starting a lookback for this top night Steve. I'm sure one of the Coopers would have done if you hadn't :D .

Although we missed the first hour and the last (my fault for being late and then Len's fault for dragging me half way across the midlands to another top night until the sun came up!), the three hours heard was a soul-fix of the VERY highest order.

Really great set up with the seating / "chatting" area just separate enough from the dancing room to still feel very much part of it, with quality sound system, very friendly people and some nice record boxes around for having a peek through!

Tempo did seem up a notch at times from the first one, but still well within the spectrum of "nowt TOO fast", and quality all the way.

Very well supported and why wouldn't it be?! I've only really started going to soul events this last 12 months or so and this will remain firmly in the diary for sure.

All the best, Steve
PS...If ever you need someone to look after that lovely Pro-Fascinations if you get tired of it one day.... :D
The 4th round of Soul at "The Snooks" (Raunds, Northants) is on Sat 9th June 2012. Please see events for more details.

Been off the scene for about a year now and was told that when I did come back I would've missed nothing, I realised last night that I've actually missed a year of great nights like this with great peeps like these, I don't think I'll make that mistake again
Good job the Coopers ( Barry & Mick), SJay, Mick & Mo and Mark Whiteley. and thanks for an extremly soulful night

chores done, packing for tomorrows hols done, time to write a few words.

it was humbling to see so many people turn up and share the mid-tempo vision @ grantham last night.
it was humbling to hear the quality of tunes played by barry, steve, mark, mick & mo
it was humbling to have martyn & co come down from stockport, len and steve (the young 'uns) come up from darn sarth and all those from all points between
it was humbling to be a part of this
not only was this whole process humbling for me, it was the biggest buzz since i first heard Night of the Wolf @ the casino fifteen minutes after necking half a gram of whizzz.... yep, last night was that good
so looking forward to Nowt Fast, Nowt Furious ptIII on Dec 17th!
queue up Al Foster, i'll be feeling that feeling once more xx

Gee where do you start after a night like this, well first of all what a turnout as Steve said "Spectacular" over one hundred in and for a event like this we feel very humble that so many came to the night.

Music all night was mid-tempo, but not all the same (if you know what I mean) there was variation in pace all DJ 's playing great sets right from the off with "Coops" who got the floor moving even during that normally quiet first hour.
Special thanks to our two guest Mark Whiteley and Mick & Mo for playing the music of which was sublime and slotted into the night so well, also special mention to SteveJ, for being such a great resident DJ.

Our next night is on Saturday 17th December with guest's Len Dopson and Mark Hopes

There is nothing i can contribute to the above posts that would make this night shine brighter!

I would just like to say i would have paid the entrance fee just to listen to Barry Coopers last track alone & thats taking nothing away from all the DJ's plays on the night but DW3 Feat: Gerald Albright was just sublime, Barry thanks introducing us to a first listen of this album track

Coops & Cooper the Elder, along with Steve Jay, have created a niche market for the
kind of music I, and I suspect a number of others too, are so passionate about.

The said 'niche market' after the initial water testing of 'Nowt Fast..Nowt Furious Pt 1
has now, following Pt 2's runaway success, evolved into a 'got to get to' event etched
firmly into my small, but very selective social calender. The comments in earlier posts sum
things up far better than I could.............................A stunner of a night!!

Perfect Venue, Perfect Company, and Very Special Music.

I am so grateful to have been asked to be a part of it and thouroghly enjoyed every minute.

Room booked for part three ! - Roll on December - We'll be back!

I do apologise, I wrote this post two days ago but forgot to post it! - ‘I been to Life-line‘…followed by a wedding……Now on the red wine…Oh deary dear…I’m now gonna add lots anyway…

…What a turn out! Steve and I were genuinely surprised, gob smacked in fact. We new the music was going to be fantastic but didn’t expect that many people in.

The word ‘Humble’ has been used a lot on this thread by you guys. It speaks volumes to me - it means your proper! - To me the soul scene (In general) has been broken over the past few years - This event has given me hope and most of all excited me!

I don’t know Steve J that well but he comes across as a very genuine guy, brilliant taste in music and I think a great choice as your resident.

Sorry if this post is a bit soppy (You can tell I’m into my midtemp) - My ‘Welingborough Soul Club’ emblem was ’Midtempo Magic’ for fifteen years - I thought I was almost on my own!

I’m listening to midtempo right now and getting slowly drunk on red wine - ‘Absolute Heaven’…I suppose if you understand that statement - Grantham is the place for you! ;O)

Only part two as well - I think your gonna ‘Need a bigger boat!”

See you for Part 3.

All the best,

Len.

P.s - Already working on my set for December - I’m that looking forward to it!

See you soon x

Thanks Steve, great to see you on Saturday, I was not sure which of the two tracks to play off this album - so I played both, the other being "On The Floor" which went down well, hope to catch up soon.

We really enjoyed the night, fantastic venue , superb music all night and a good crowd.

Always good to hear Mick & Mo and Mark and some nice stuff from all residents , quality tunes throughout.

Unfortunately due to a clash with another regular soul night we can't make the December one but we will be watching for the 2012 dates and hopefully book in at the Premier Inn to make more of a night of it.

Thanks to Barry, Mick and Steve for giving us a full night of our favourite Tempo soul.

See you soon

Paul & Sue

Hiya Barry, Coops and Steve

Kev, Robert and I really enjoyed the night.

Good company   and great tunes! Steve, I agree wholeheartedly with your comment above :D Unless someone has a BPM monitor (!) a few ever so slightly faster tunes add to the mix. IMHO

Barry, I'm sorry that we missed your spot........we really didn't go just because you had come on!!! Honestly!

It was good to see Theresa back to her usual self! :wicked:
