I bought this Vinyl Variation of "RESCUE ME" last year for a few dollars, it was described as TEST PRESS in the listing.
It was suggested to me that it was from the first batch or TEST stage of production.

Intrigued I bid on it whether or not as I thought that it would be another Pressing Plant variation to add to my collection for this Title.

The seller was happy to sell it and I'm happy to own it, even if it does turn out to be a Pressing Plant Variation.

However; I'm still curious regarding its origin, anyone out there have any Theories / Ideas / Knowledge regarding this release..

As you can see, In comparison the others have a BOLD Title etc.

The print is similar to some New Orleans labels - what's in the deadwax, Roger?

The top press looks like a Southern Plastics press. They probably got stampers from Chess and used their own label printing. I have little use for the would be expert opinion by the seller (I assume that you got it off eBay or some other general Internet dealer). Considering Chess had their own in house pressing plant that did their records as well as custom pressings (known to some as Ter Mar pressings) the only way I could see Chess/Checker records being pressed elsewhere is because demand was so high they couldn't handle the volume and contracted out. This record was probably one of Chess' biggest hits in the soul era pre GRT. The three records in the second block of pics are all in house Chess pressings.

Yes I bought it from ebay. Contracting out as it was a hit could well be the answer.

Same thing happened in this country with some of The Beatles stuff being pressed at Philips, Decca etc to meet demand rather than EMI.

Obviously with the correct label logo. Again Many Thanks for Info.

Silly, but I bought this many years ago simply because i had never seen this west coast checked copy before while all the other format where floating around. This to prove when styrene is good quality, in good condition and played with a proper needle, it sounds wonderfull just like it looks classy. Me think. Tim
