Funny how he firstly says he picked up two at an all-nighter and on his latest listing he says he picked up odd copies. I'd be suprised if the seller here isn't also the "alleged" :g: bootlegger.
If you're not part of the solution..........

here, here mate, if this is correct, its an absolute disgrace...impatience most certainly ISNT a virtue. lou has been trying to tie up a deal for a legitmate release but there's always someone who wants to gazzump the process just to make a dishonest buck, there ought to be swift retribution for this.

This is getting beyond a joke People now bootlegging acetates !
whats the world coming too ?

The old addage "Keep your friends close but your enemies even closer " springs to mind
reminds me of when Richard Searling lent his (only known copy ) of the Jades "I'm where it's at " to a well known dj and hey presto a week later everybody had an EMI Disc of it

if this isn't an authorised copy then it will definitely leave a bad taste for Lou who has been working hard to get this stuff done properly. Looks like the seller has sold half a dozen or so already at 24.99

When this CD release was first mentioned on here I did drop Lou a line pointing out the preference for vinyl.

He said thanks but no thanks to my suggestion.

he has told me had been communicating with a couple of labels re.7" releases as of a couple of days ago. to have this boot out early could slice into some of the legit sales for sure.

Kris,

You'd think he coulda just pressed 'em up over there?

Is this CD promotional only then or is it on sale.

Smacks of Universal and their rubbish handling of putting out unreleased Motown on vinyl.

Can't see why vinyl wouldn't have sold just as well as the CDs.

They always know better than those involved.

A vinyl 45 is a sensible way forward for Lou ... I got the CD and really treasure it

As an aside I had a fascinating conversation with Jack Eskew a few weeks ago who remembered the 'Gone Wth The Wind Is My Love' sessions really well and was thrilled to hear the tracks again.

His memories of L.A. Motown, Frank Wlson, Hal Davis, Brenda & Patrice were a joy to listen to. He was a prominent guy in those days and Brenda gives him a name check in the interview I did with her. I think it's somewhere around on Soul Source

The world is full of interesting characters that we need to embrace

As regards the 'bootleg' 45 that is just wrong and needs to be stopped

I really think that Lou did the CDs & mp3s without realising the appeal of a 7" vinyl release & has now been alerted & "pointed in the right direction" if you like. I would love to have three 7"s of this material. Both versions of the Gloria Jones on one, the Jimmy McFarlands on another & the Tiaras on a third. Unfortunately the 7" game isn't really one where you're gonna see a lot of return on your initial investment so to have this bootleg eat away from some potential sales really sucks for whoever may be looking to pick up the project.

The sale has ended and I can't find other copies on eBay at the moment but no doubt more will turn up.

Hello,

I don't know any legitimate companies who can press commercial records at that price.

In fact it costs more than that just for cutting lacquers and metalwork processing (plates, stampers).

After that you also need to pay for printed labels, test pressings, final pressings, sleeves, boxes, cartons, delivery and VAT. It's quite an expensive process, that's why the dealer prices of specialist (small quantity) singles is high. Dealers buy singles between £4.00 and £5.00 and retail at £8.99 or £9.99 etc.

The unit cost of vinyl records only reduces significantly on a large order (several thousand units or more) but most soul singles are pressed in batches of 500 these days. That's how small the market is.

Bootleggers obviously have a huge financial advantage because they don't pay fees or royalties for master licensing or mechanical reproduction. They don't usually spend anything on pre-mastering and of course they don't have the promotional and marketing costs of a legitimate record company. And in some cases I know bootleggers also evade payment of VAT of manufacturing which reduces their costs by a further 20%.

By the way, as a comparison on manufacturing costs only, it's generally cheaper to press 1000 CDs than it is to press 500 vinyl records.

Hello Everyone.....

Thanks for your support and feedback about the illegal vinyl recording of Gloria Jones tune "Gone with the wind is my Love" that was on sale at Ebay....Would not have known about it without your concern and feedback.......Yes, I have put in a lot of time, hustle, and monies to make and promote the CD album. and suddenly I have to deal with these illegal un-authorized copies of Gloria's Tune...and the stress of it all..But that is business, I guess...Somehow, all things will work together for good to those who are Believers, said the Apostle Paul.

Again, thanks for your support and concern. I will keep you posted concerning any future vinyl releases that are schedule....I am In the process of doing several radio phone interviews this month concerning the CD Album that is out there for sale.

Respectfully/GodBless,

Thanks Pete,

I wasn't disputing what you said, I've seen the same (and similar) mailshots myself but their prices have "extras" such as multi-step plating, colour printing, delivery and 20% VAT - all of which makes quite a difference.

And they use a plant which I won't use anymore because of quality and service issues.

Best regards,

Paul

But if you (not you literally) were going to do a basic bootleg, white labels, with the vat it'd still only be £400 and if you sell those at £10 a time - well you can understand why there are so many on ebay.

True,

Record deal 1 would be £353.00 plus £40.00 for colour upgrade plus £35.00 or more for shipping and then 20% VAT - bringing it to £513.60 but I agree that would be tempting for a bootlegger who also isn't concerned about quality etc.

Another advantage bootleggers have is that they can sell good quantities in clubs etc so they often get the full retail price rather than a £4.00 or £4.50 dealer price.

They don't need to sell many copies to cover their costs.

Good luck. I hope in the long run you finally get more exposure and return after you get legitimate 45s released. Thanks for rescuing these tracks!
