Obviously never been to the Boro before-----We are a pure blooded race forged in the furnaces of Dorman Long steelworks------ The Geordies likewise---brought up on a diet of brown ale paid for with the ill gotten gains from the neighbours gas meters---the Makems are the blend in the middle----bit like the convicts we sent to australia last century

Dave...sorry to be the bearer of GOOD NEWS. We have sold over 200 tickets and expect close to 800 on the night. Why anyone from Teeside into Northern chooses not to go is beyond me. Boro has potential, it merely needs local Soulies spirits lifting.

I wasn't swearing particularly at you, I read some of these threads that descend into slagging-off and just think "fo-phuques-sake give it a rest!!" It'd just be nice to do away with the negativity whoever it's aimed at, don'tcha think? :P Then back in the REAL world!!

Hi,

I had seen the event splashed on a full page of N.Soul Mag and thought 'sounds potentially good I'll give it look'.

It is always good to encourage and support this kind of event, not to mention a new venue to visit. So off I trundled up the A47/17 & A1 and 225miles and 4 hours later I arrived from Norwich.

Had a right result in finding the local N.Soul hostelry - Square 1, where the local hosts made me feel extremely welcome, great music & atmosphere, and I thought good start to the night!

The venue is typical music hall, an ideal surrounding with good dance floors etc. The acoustics were excellent but the main room sound did overlay into the Modern room who in turn had to bang up the sound to be heard. This didn't really make visiting the Modern room a comfortable ear drum experience!

The rarities room 'at the top of the stairs' was a nice laid back comfortable affair and ideal for those fans to socialise and listen clearly without any distractions from the other floors.

In fairness the music was good and well attended (i'm not good a figures but 300/400 I thought) but it did attract a few Christmas revellers looking for a late drink and who were none the wiser about Allnighter etiquette which unfortunately lead to an alcohol drenched dance floor from some over exhuberent individuals.

The guys & gals from Middlesborough were very proud of this venue and rightly so and on the right night at the right time of year who knows? I would certainly give it another whirl but only if the next time it finishes as advertised at 6am and not 'all of a sudden' at 4am. Unaccepatable in my book and would be interested to hear an official line on this one. I dont take kindly to travelling 450 miles to attend a Soul Night!

However, I'm glad I did but still think everyone deserves an officail explanation.

Hi Dick

Yes these questions and any others should be given by promoter srtaight away, they would always come back with an answer if it shed good light on them....I would always answer questions and this one is very important, some people can really go out to great lenghts to get to a night and turn up late,if i got there after 1am and only got 3 hours then i would ask the promoter some questions..Forums are good to answer these questions..We are all quick to take praise and should be there to answer these question or quick posting the night..,.Losing two hours is not a little matter,I was at a night that finished an hour early because there was only ten people left,i was still pissed off and told the promoter,he took it on the chin..Not having a go at just Kev but anyone who takes the cash and then we don't get what it says on the flyer...Not the best time of the year to judge a night, piss heads and less soulies around..I have heard the venue is first rate, plenty piss heads at Sheffield also, some people are going for the late night bar and not the music first...Its going on more and more now,if there is no late bar then a lot of folk stay away, how times have changed but we are not all has young as we was and just want to dance all night..Hats off to all who try and push a large all niter, its a lot of work and can be tough going...
Friday 1st June....Different Stokes presents 1st Anniversary special.. and 2 rooms of Northern, Rare soul, Crossover, Deep funk. ... Nags Head, Manchester.. guests.. Gospel Bob, Adam Leaver, Callum Simpson.... Freestyle room.. Brighton Beach Boys( Newcastle )... plus residents.... Steve Cato.. Matty Hill.. Rich Penrith..... 7.30pm to 2am....
