Deon Jackson Dies

Soulful Detroit reports that Deon has died. It's a tragedy that he was only 68 years old. I know many promoters would have loved to bring him over for a UK performance so that we could tell him of our appreciation of his superb music. Sadly that will never happen.

I regularly play a few of his tunes at home and on my ipod in the car depending on what mood I'm in.

Rob Moss visited Deon not too long ago and I am sure he will post a fitting tribute. (I think he is currently in the States).

Deon Jackson had the voice and the looks, he should have been a superstar.

In 1975 I bought a Contempo Raries pink label record that I heard playing in a city centre record shop.

Deon Jackson - Love Makes The World Go Round was one of the many sounds quenching my musical thirst and opened up a

whole new world for me to explore back then.

Filed away next to the Carla release for many a year, it's still a 'memory record' favourite of mine -

so simple, yet a tune packed with quality all round.

So sorry to hear this.  People were looking for him to bring him over there for years, but he always kept to himself.  Back in the day, he was hot, hot, hot and so, so fine and oh, so shy.

 

This is why I try so hard to put artists I know in touch with you all so they can hear and see that their music was appreciated and it was not in vain.  Sadly,  some will never know once they get a page like this.
