Well spotted Nev. number of bids suggests a dealer rather than a collector or DJ. Bidding on twenty records a day is hard work but dealers have to do this. The number of bid retractions is highly suspicious. An auction bid would normally only occur in extreme circumstances so the bidding profile suggests this is highly unusual activity. I wonder if this sale will fall through? The private bidder in the lead must be having some doubts.

Are you forgetting that nearly all of today's big dance floor fillers started out as a new discovery by rare soul collectors and DJ's .

Of course there's a lot of records that maybe arent so desirable ,but if you dont ty em youll never find out and thats called taking a risk !

The main room man waits for the little room man to break the record ,guages the reaction before throwing a big wedge at the guaranteed dancer ...basically the lazy option .

Should also remember that the rare soul crowd have love and passion for the content of a records ,rather than just the dance floor potential .

Just my opinion ,but if you think all new records are inferior and nothing new is worth listening to ,your on a retro scene ,a nostalgia scene ...which must get a bit tedious and boring after 40 yr ,Shirley ;)

Is that really your opinion?  Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Dave Ripolles, Steve G, Arthur Fenn, Soul Sam to name just a few all playing obscure inferior music, you do come out with some crap if that really is what you think.  I don't know one venue or DJ that forces any music on anyone, they either go and listen and dance or go somewhere else.

No, not at all as it's one of the better sounds of the genre. It is however being overwhelmed by more than a trickle of relatively inferior sounds of a pseudo-funk tempo...

Never said ALL new records were inferior but some, maybe plenty are. Nothing against new sounds either whether broken in on the main floor or the side rooms, providing they appeal more to the audience than the DJ and they can be danced to, after all, what's the point of records full of 'content' that no one wants to dance to. There are still plenty of good 60's and 70's tunes still to be revealed so why settle for third-rate, play-at-home-only records on a night out?

Yes it's my considered opinion for what it's worth. All these top DJs have built their reputations playing the rarest and best classic sounds and rarities with a few of them spearheading the exposure of great new material from the 70's. Sure, they innovate and not all the records exposed hit the spot but my point was that there are inferior, poor dance potential sounds being pushed, mainly because they are rare and slightly-soundalike and no one else is attempting to break them. And are you telling me that every DJ plays exclusively for the crowd - some wannabe DJs play more for themselves or to an empty dance floor but we keep coming back for more...

The so called rare soul scene as some wish to differentiate it from others has given the scene some absolutely brilliant records from many DJ's.  Many have gone on years later to become scene classics when the so called oldies brigade wake up to them......and some of those DJ's actually have the nerve to take the credit as well.  Some proper turkeys have been played as well, I will be the first to admit that but that is the same for any other era on this scene.  You only have to listen to some of the tripe Wigan gave us.  As many bad as good came out of the place.  Funny when you break the oldies scene down from almost 20 years of so called great records just 200 or so are played to death every week at the vast majority of venues, a sad reflection of over 40 years of the greatest music on this earth.

It's just another nothing record like a lot of these are, might be rare but quality wise, sounds like £5's worth.

Well how can you say half the records played at Wigan were crap if you didn't go?  How do you know they were played there?  By all means say a record is crap but don't try and tarnish it with the old Wigan brush.  Do you want me to go to a venue where this Hamilton Movement is playing just so I can come home and say, yep, still crap?

I know we all branch off with different tastes, but i find it mind boggling that people on a soul forum could call this record crap.

I thought it would be one of the undisputables. Forget northern soul and all the sub-genres, forget soul even....

just as a piece of music, a piece of pop music even, it's just a masterpiece isn't it?

its a bloody good record..not sure about the price tag tho..karls copy is about right at the moment.... that ebay copy was just outrageous
