Hi there Alfie,
With the D.J. line-up assembled, You just knew that it was going to be a good night. The good turn-out came from far and wide, which must have pleased you Alfie.
There seemed to be something in the music for everyone because the floor remained busy, even down to the last half-hour before 2 a.m. when the numbers remaining had halved. Some people just didn't want the night to end. My misses
Jan, being one of them and your good lady,
Ruth being another, getting the most out of an escape to the
' Theraputic world of Planet Soul'
This venue being a long wooden floored function room at the rear of the pub, has a relaxed atmosphere that allows for an informal intimacy amongst the revellers. Apart from sharing a common passion for the music, as you become more familiar with soul followers you begin to feel the warmth and character with the friendships you've made. Saturday night was no exception. I enjoyed talking to
Julia Bedford (
Chichester ) and
Annie Vincent (
Ashurst ), both very warm and friendly women.
I did get my backside fondled, but I'm afraid to say, not by a female.
Rob Hallom, Annie's other half, belies his age (into his fifties) and with his demeanour and huge presence, comparible to a big friendly over-sized puppy, likes to think he's still got the old magic. The only problem is when he's run out of females to use his charm on and he's had quite a few beers, I become his new plaything. He'll lift me up (and I'm nearly six foot) and swing me around like a wrag doll. Such is the embarrassing price you sometimes have to pay for a friendship.
what I must say, is Rob's youthful and playful character always breaks down barriers and creates that extra measure of informality to any evening shared with him.
I said hello to quite a few people, such as
Ian Curtis (
Newbury ), but somehow regretably never found the time for a chat.
There's so much more I could say about Saturday night, but I'll end this with a thank you to
Alfie, Jan's favourite D.J.s
Chris Thorley & Moldie ( who will be playing at
Farnborough on the 17th and
Bournemouth Railway Club on the 24th), to
Brian Clarke ( I'm sorry if I disorganised your record box when I looked through it) and
Steve Lyonns ( playing at
'The Opera House' along with resident D.J. alfie on May 31st)
Looking forward to the next one
Dave & Jan Mortimore ( Poole)
