[size=5]yes 1st launch nite went really well, looks like a popular venue in the future. Great atmosphere loads of old mates there which made it that extra special, considering six hills was on aswell, it really was`nt a bad turn out.

Well done Chris and Marcelle, and thanx to you both for yet another great venue and for letting Harpo and I do a spot in room 2.

I also need to mention a very special D.J. whom l have great respect for, a top guy,one of the scenes gentlemen, and that my soulful friends is WOODY, he never in all the time lve known him been affraid to dip his toe in the water and play a fantastic underplayed record that fills the dance floor. Im proud of you mate xx

Don,t agree with you entirely Tony the music was SPOT ON from all the DJ,s!! :D But the sound system could have been a lot better,it was very distorted. And as a nighter venue, the crowd we were with disagree on that score :D It is a night club and maybe it did the job for some peeps!! :D But in our opinion it did,nt  and also as dancers the floor was diabolical to say the least So folks if you do decide to go,take a decent sized bottle of talc with ya!!

But have to say all the best to Chris & Marcelle with all future events.

And before i finish, i changed in the womens toilet (obviously  ) half way through the night. And left my T-Shirt in the cubicle, but when i realised and went to look for it (about half an hour later), it had gone!! So if anyone picked it up by mistake maybe  then please can you let me know??? It was just a normal black T-Shirt,but it had a patch on it that Anton kindly made for me with "JELLYBEAN" on it. And i,m gutted :D

OK, well the most important thing is that I enjoyed the night as did my two usual travelling buddies Kev & Wayne. As it was a 12 start we dropped in on Mark Freemans new do at Bedworth (which looks like it could be onto a winner!) and then headed up the motorway arriving just before 12.

Was great to see Sid again...although he always costs me a fortune, some stunning tunes in that sales box :D . Some of the usual faces were there and the evening started off well saying our hellos and setting up the sales boxes, always great to see Steve (Winsford Soul) and the lovely JB. Spent a great hour or two chatting to Killa, top guy with superb taste in tunes...it's just great to meet someone who has such an open mind when it comes to records and will happily listen to any record you recommend and will then give you an honest opinion on it :D

Agree with the other comments..Woody did an stand out spot...playlist please??

I think Chris has a venue here with potential, few niggles (for me mainly based on the sound system quality but this did improve as the night went on) but that is always to be expected on an opening night sure these will be sorted in time for the next one so keep up the good work :D

Cheers,
Adam.

Night club!!! The Ritz, 100 club, The Mecca's all were night clubs!!! Can't see a problem with a building purpose built for the job???
Sound can be fixed, dance floors can be fixed. Personal T Shirts can't be fixed, if anyone has it, give Jellybean the T Shirt back, she is a through and through good Soulie.

See your point Tony  we never been to any of the night clubs you have mentioned!! We are just used to what we no as a typical northern venue if you know what i mean? No frills etc........cos thats the way we likes em!! :D

And yes!! The sound system can be sorted with no probs!! But the dancefloor does need some working on for the next one, sure it could be put right though!!

Just about getting back to the land of the living  Having been Maxines formerly Wigan tiffs many times the 1st thing i noticed was the decor and carpet was still the same. Was good to be back thou. Was a good nite with quite a few of the (normal ) niter crowd mooching about in there normal dark corners :D
Managed to stay out of the clutches of the record dealers for a change. Heard a few tunes i didnt no which is always a good thing ( imo ) Didnt get chance to lead Rob Copeland and his first time UK visitor Chuck astray to much. Thanks to all the DJ,s who from what i heard played some tasty tunes. Got loads of hugs of Marcelle  Thanks to Chris & Marcelle and everyone else involved with last night for a good night. Adam we will get the Hot lady sold dont worry  As always good to see you. Even got to meet a few SSers i didnt know. Hard to believe i dont know everyone YET

A good nite really but must progress a little from over played wigan days IMO

I had a great nite, music wise , I found it right across the board, must say when Karl played the volumes , I thought brill, one of my favorite tunes, and Dave playing the Iperians, wonderful, and of course my woody, which I can say I was very proud of him, ALL of the DJ,s delivered, on the first nite you never know what kind of crowd you are catering for, but the dance floor was kept alive all nite, a good mix, with the odd rarity thrown in, which is how it should be, I quite like the idea of that pub, nearly next door, got to be a great place to meet up with fellow soulies, aint seen a line of people queuing up out side a niter since the 100 club.and I like the 12 pm start, gives you more time to ave a kip, well it does for me anyway, I loved the nite, and I can see this being very successful indeed ;) I did pop my head in the modern room to hear sandi and harpo, now you all know I aint a modern fan, however I did dance to a couple, so I must like it more than I think.keep up the good work you two, one moan, I forgot my bloody camera, so aint got no photo,s, dam!!!

I know its rather late but here's my twopennyworth, Rick and I arrived in Wigan about 9.30 Saturday night we had decided to go to the Cotton Club first, which is tucked away in a tiny side street, there was no hint of a Soul night at all so we came away, it was only later on in Maxims we met Andy who runs the night at the Cotton club we discovered the event was upstairs and didn't start until 10. :D

So, back to Maxims where a small queue was building up and by Midnight there were plenty outside. From the start the music was excellent, and plenty of familiar faces, with the two rooms being so close it was easy to nip between the two for a decent mixture of music. It has promise of a decent Allnighter, large dance floor etc.

As usual the night flew by and we limped (over done it again) out into a wet damp Wigan morning to a locked car park :D ..
Luckly there was a large enough gap in the barriers to squeeze the car through :D
Grabbed my coat and my leather shoes, walked out the door with a bag full of blues

Night club!!! The Ritz, 100 club, The Mecca's all were night clubs!!! Can't see a problem with a building purpose built for the job???
Sound can be fixed, dance floors can be fixed. Personal T Shirts can't be fixed, if anyone has it, give Jellybean the T Shirt back, she is a through and through good Soulie.

doubt anyone's nicked it... I'd be stunned anyway!. Staff have probably thrown it away, presuming it's been left there.... (Sorry JB!!!)..

Looked like it was a good night...are the dates out for the next one yet?.

Hi All
Sorry to take so long to throw up our thanks for all who came along on Saturday but we wanted to allow others to post feed back first, so we could take it on board, talk with the management and address were necessary.
First off the levels with the sound system in the main room, well that was down to me not allowing myself enough time to familiarise myself with the mass of knobs and switches, so I apologise and for the next one we will have someone a lot more professional there from the off.
The dance floor I agree was a bit of a mess, it had been scrubbed as other patrons of this club tend to carry and spill drink on it, so the management had it scrubbed but not varnished and polished, I have spoken to them and they will have this addressed the week before the next nighters.
The comments about the played out oldies in the main room, I agree to a point, I put Steve Pownell and The Soul Twins on to open the first two hours and yes that's the route they took, but what I would point out is, that in the other room for those two'ish hours we had Squeak, Harpo and Sandi followed by Stuart Cheetham and the soul that they played in there was as far from played out oldies as you could get. We also had Dave Rimmer, Karl Heard and Woody in the main room and thou they did not do ultra rare sets the dance floor seemed to be busy all through their spots.
I was generally pleased with what the DJ's delivered on the night, but I will try and take onboard what has been posted and again address for the next date.
There have been comments about the club itself not being right for a soul event and it was not how some remembered it, I know it is a bit run down, but lets be realistic, if it was all shiny and new, we would not be entertained by the the owners and we could never justify the hire fees they would demand. We like it and we believe it will work and I will tell you why,
we have found a club management that are willing to take onboard feedback, that are realistic with their expectations regarding numbers and most importantly want to work with us.
We are still working on the next date, some time towards the end of June, we will more than likely go
bi-monthly, We will carry on working with Andy Newens and hopefully help grow the younger interest in the niter scene in the North West.
All in all we are pleased with the first night and we thank all off the DJ's for working with us, for those 180 or so people that came along and for your feedback.
Regards
Chris Waterman
