Thanks to Andy and the two Simons for their tunes - a cracking night that went on way past closing time (and apparently back to ours!) - looks like we have a new monthly venue in Brighton.
Note to self... try not to get drunk so I remember what records I played
This took me back to what the core of Northern has always been for me - tunes, friends, smiles and shuffles in random places... happy Bank Holiday and thanks for coming along everyone.

Great night Pete, me & Sam really enjoyed ourselves!

Great tunes & a real party atmosphere, also the first time i've ever had people dancing on tables & stripping whilst i've been djing (i kid you not!!), don't even think Butch has managed that feat!! :D

Well done mate!

Simon

I had a ball great night. Really friendly vibe in there. Great to meet Pete, Paul, Bianca and see both Simons. Great sets from everyone Simon Bridger's Delfonics track was the spin of the night for me. Was it "He dont really love you"?

Soul sister Sue is such fun. She spent 10 minutes trying to explain a record she had just bought to me. "Its by somebody and the somebodies and I think its called 'you're going to make me love me' ."

"Is it by the narcissists?" I asked.

An hour later just before she left she came up to me and said Patti & The Emblems- Im Gonna Love you a long long time.

Here's what I played in no order, but unlike Simon's set there was no table dancing or people taking their tops off:

Marjoree Black- One More Hurt
James Carr- Coming Back to Me Baby
Mitty Collier- Get Out
Sugar Pie de Santo- Go Go Power
Rex Garvin and the Mighty Gravers- Ive Gotta go Now (Up on the Floor)
Little Ann- Sweep it out in the Shed
The Impressions- Stay close to me
Bobby Womack- Whatcha Gonna do (When your love is gone)
Otis Leavill- Why Why Why
Little Sherman and The Mod Swingers-The Price of Love
Terry Callier- I dont want to see myself without you
Barbara Mcnair- It happens every time
Rare Pleasure- Let me down easy
Marcia Hines- You gotta let go
Anacostia- What Kind of Love
Margie Joseph- I cant move no Mountain
Skip Mahoney annd the Casuals- Running away from Love
Johnnie Taylor- What about my love
Irene and the scotts- Im stuck on my baby
Fred Hughes- I keep tryin'
Jerry Butler and Brenda Lee Eager- Ever since I can remember
True Reflection- That's where Im coming from
Jackie Wilson- You left the fire burning
Tyrone Davis- Turn back the hands of time
JJ Barnes- Chains of Love
Soulvation Army Band- Dancing on a daydream

and some other stuff I cant recall. Pete thanks for such a great night. Hopefully there will be plenty more

Hi Andy,

It was 'You'll get enough' @ Philly Groove.

Really enjoyed your set btw & this was your first time spinning in the UK?

You seemed very comfortable behind those decks & looked like you'd been djing forever!

Great stuff, especially the Sugar track, wot a tune!

Seriously good track that. Mind blowing! You played a cracking set as always

First time spinning here all right. I used to spin in a few pubs in Ireland and have done one or two spots on the Dublin Soul scene years ago.

I have much better records now if I do say so myself so am more confident djing. If there is ever a spare slot you need filled down the Volks would be more than happy to assist.

Anyway looking forward to the next night down the Globe. We should get them to move out all the tables and make more room for dancing.

see you soon,

Andy

Thanks Simon - it's Bianca's birthday that weekend so we're probably away for your next 'nighter' sadly.
Please can you PM me a list of any future dates you're aware of or thinking about - best to make sure there are no clashes or dates too close together.
