Had a brilliant week-end, many thanks to all the organisers (n Malayka, you n Suzanne worry too much! It was fantastic!)
Gorgeous city, venues, music, company, weather n accomodation all top notch! I posted up some pics I took with my phone but they're mainly of the city/Sunday afternoon session as I couldnt work out how to work the flash, so most of the pics I took Sat night were too dark
Great to meet up with the Norwich boys again (they had us in stitches Sat night) and also lovely to meet Mark (not a day over 25!!) n Liz from Derby, and all those peeps at Boleros for Tapas Sun eve (sorry, too many names to remember, but I do remember yours Karen!).
I'd recommend this week-ender to anyone, whatever your age/musical tastes.Finances permitting, will be back next year!

the organisation was top notch, the venue was perfect, the crowd were spectacular, and the music was positively gorgeous!!
oh, and the weather - i have a red face to prove how glorious it was. sitting outside the cafe opposite the river in the sunshine with so many good friends and wonderful soul music was like heaven.
all the best people were there; chris and carlos, karen and the gang, mark and liz, thomas and the swiss guys, all the dj's - esp. arthur, maria, and soul sam:- who did the most convincing impression of Mother Teresa on the sunday night
bamberg is just the most beautiful place to visit, i will definately be booking up asap for next year

Hi Helen
Good to see you again, hope you make it over to Berekley. Just loved the ´Soul Brats´from Switzerland, so much energy and that moment where they all went into a back drop together, just magic, wish I was still that young, so much passion.

Just think about it, a hall full of 400/500 people from all over Germany and Europe in general who just and only travel there for the "Bamberg Experience"...that sure says all already doesn`t it ?
Next to the beautiful town of Bamberg that I never seem to get tired of and next to the extraordinary great quality of music thanks to the well-picked DJ line up every year, its really the people that make the BE (Bamberg Experience) what it is.
"For the Real Times" is the headline on the programme for the weekender and nth could describe it better. Its a pleasure and honour to enjoy times like these with (real) people like these.
So I express my thanks to Malayka, Susanne, Kalle and Dave for putting so much effort, time, power and enthusiasm into this fabulous weekend and making this great experience possible. Next to that my thanks go to all who travelled incl. Helen & Claire, Karen & Pete -you two are so ...fantastic people!.., Jörg -all is forgiven by now .. nearly even your recent reveiew in Soulful World ... - Toby, Roddy, Mark and wife -hope I could in the end bve of a little help to you ?- Martin, Maria and Arthur, the Hamburg Ultra RSA`s and company, Ozi and crew from Nürnberg, the car full of Berlin Hip City punters as well as Markus and Polly and Edu of course, all the spanish gangs from Barcelona -Skymark rocks- and Madrid, and everybnody else I may have forgot to name now who made the weekend so special thru their presence!
Shame really it takes place only once a year
Marc
Note
All involved played serious sets, but my hat must go off to Butch (again) who for the very first time ever managed to get the Modern room really "hot" already on the friday night. It wasn`t one of the easiest tasks I was ever asked to fulfill when I had to follow him later. Nice man he is he and Lars plus a bunch of Barcelona Modern Soulies stayed in the Modern room till I decided to finish in there at around 5 am (my modern 45s had run out by that time anyhow

I am bit more awake now, the pressure has gone & I calmed down. You know, it's amazing to see what has happened .... when I first started to run events in Bamberg, nearly ten years ago, I never thought that a weekender like the one on last weekend would work....
We had, over the weekend nearly 750 people visiting. There were people from Spain (Marc, the spanish people you mentioned are from switzerland!!!), Switzerland, Uk, Austria, Italy, even three from Brazil!!!
The athomosphere was through and through fantastic...the dancefloor all night long busy, I am very happy that the modern room was buzzing too!
I am very greatful to you all for making Susanne's and my dream of having the best music and the best soulfolks gathered in Bamberg for a weekend of fun real. All the hard work, a year of telephone conferences, thousands of emails, meetings etc. - it all pays off when we see the simling faces on the dancefloor - PRICELESS!!!!
We already started with the weekender planning for 2009. It will be around the same time, will post the date within the next week...
For all of you who suggested that we should run it twice a year: it costs us too much energy, we simply couldn't do it twice a year...
It is, every year again, a very special experience - THE BAMBERG EXPERIENCE!!!
Thanks again, to all of you - old and new friends!!!

Hugs and kisses to Susanne and Malayka...you organised the best weekend for me this year (so far). Hope you enjoyed it all a little between all the hazzle with your guests. Perfect venue, weather, Line-Up, food, drinks and music of course. AAA+++
Was a pleasure to be there with the bunch from Hamburg. Stopped laughing at the first afternoon session at the river bar...because my jawbones hurts so badly from all the fun. Not a dull second with those lunatics from up north... There must be something in the water in Hamburg...mental.
Loved the music from the first to last record in both rooms from all DJ`s (Jan made my day on saturday playing Roosevelt Matthews - Tighten Up...thought I get a serious heart attack while dancing to it) and it`s good to see a packed Modern room in full swing.
...just two funny stories from the weekend:
Before starting my set on satuday night Dave Thorley was behind the decks. His last one was Jimmie Raye- Philly Dog Around The World. He packed up his previous record, closed his box and went of. Nice prezzie...thanks a lot!
...and...
Jan from Hamburg picked up every flyer for Marc Forrests forthcoming Hip City Allnighter at Berlin after Marc handed them out all over the venue tables and tells him: `Marc, you lost something but I collect all your lost items for you.`
Greetings to Roddy and Katherine (we try to visit you in Edinburgh later this year), Toby and Mandy (thanks for the invitation for january 2009 again) and our host Osti. What a great international come together!
Hard work for us to top it in october in Hamburg...

Thanks for the kind words Ralf, thanks for coming and playing some records for us!!!
Yeah, there are a lot of lovely stories to tell, I just start to remember some of them...
I did rent a house for the Djs (SoulShakers HQ)...and on monday, we had to leave the flat earlier than we originally thought, I still don't have a cell phone but needed urgently one - Sam offered me to use his with the words: " well, i don't actually know how to use it, I have it now for three years, if you know how to use it, your welcome to do so..." and then "I put £10 on it when I first got it three years ago and there are still £4.30 on it"
more to follow...

....but Ralf, what about the biggest of them all Weekenders, the infamous "Deutschlandhallen Monther"...you are still up for that, arent, you

Unfortunately we are in Barcelona at the Boiler Club...
Ba is playing records there.
But I hope we will make it within this year to attend on one of your Events in big B.
Greetings to your Missus.
Keep the faith!

Hi Marc
No it the later release. The Sonic one has a funk classic on the flip and sells for more. But the LK one has a nice crossover tune on the flip and I'd personally rather have the LK one anyday.

Would love to hear that Crossover tune to be honest, any chance of a soundfile ? What is the LK one going for, the SONIC one sells for around 250 UKP. Yes, a funk tune on the reverse but I must admit that I like and play it out...but then again I do love me Funk from time to time

It was brilliant like the years before, thats all I can say (it's not true I can say more but not here, its for adults only).
big kisses for you (not for Dave and Kalle, for you only hugs)
I had a perfect time in Bamberg again with all these soulies from all over europe. This is what I want, exellent beer, a dancehall like in heaven and friendly people they like to dance and listen to soul music.
