Well what a great night I had down at the canal tavern

It was hot and humid in that little room and I got lost in my own little sweaty world dancing to some superb tunes!

As normal we arrived at 8 - as soon as the doors were unlocked - this is to ensure no-one else sat on the table with the "reserved for the Essex gobshite" sign on it - and because I like to have a chat with Karen before it gets hectic

By 9 I was a sweaty dischevelled mess... nowt new there then

Really enjoyed listening to Cliff - I've never heard him do a weak or poor spot, and he certainly was on form at Thorne

And Kitch at the end was rather good too! it was great that he was the finisher, but a shame too as he played loads of tunes that I would normally dance too - I was just knackered and had cramp in my calves. Massive thanks for Lee McKinney... I just melted

Am already lookng forward to the August do

Seems forever since we were last at the "Canal Tavern", so all excited & giddy like small children, Gail, Gary, Steve & I head for Thorne, closely followed by Bev. As usual we're early but we're greeted by a smile as big as the Sun from the lovely Karen :( & a bell is rung to tell everyone that the "Unclean" have arrived. To my amazement we're not the first, someone's even giddier than we are!! Kirsty (with new haircut & a girlie dress, very elegant) & Mike plus a table of mates beat us to it, Arthur on decks filling the room with fine tunes & Maria at the bar flapping because she's a light short for the decks, soon sorted I think & all's well once more in the "Tavern".

Slow at first but then a sudden burst of entrants, so we're joined by Kev, Pauline & Kenny, Big Ian, Patto, Steve & the York lovelies, Darryl, Oxo,Kathy & Annette, Thorne Paul, Paul & Sue, also a few new faces which was nice & a suprise to see "Our Vicky" there, a nice suprise of course. Managed a short stilted chat with Mr Thorley & I think we made sense but Dave did say he'd been on the jollop since early that day & his tolerance levels were low anyway Posted Image & he should know better but it's only hospitable as they was Pete & Karens guests while up here.

The music that's what were there for, well it speaks for itself IMHO & Kirsty was first on the floor whipping up enthusiasm & doing a lot of clapping I noticed, what a little wallflower, anyway it worked cos even without us toe tappers on the sidelines, the floor was constantly full. Cliff Steel was outstanding, playing known & unknown gems (to my ears that is) & to be honest I can't remember him ever playing a bad spot, who'd guess hey & I'm sure someone once commented that he wasn't a "TOP FRONTLINE DJ", I must have misheard???? :D Kitch had a hard act to follow but seemed to come up trumps for the assembled Soulsters, although I'm sure I saw his Lady picking tunes out of his box to play, so it was either her request or "Beer Blindness" on Kitch's part, it don't matter really as they were all good anyway. Finally these guys were ably backed up by resident Maria & Arthur, who music we all love anyway & who along with Karen & Pete are the oil that keeps this little motor running, so well done all & keep doing what your doing, ok.

Take care,be safe & "Stop what your doing to me, I like it & it's no good for me",
Spot.

p.s. Patto we must stop all this laughter & jolliness, my cheeks are still aching, along with my ribs.

It takes very little ability to find fault, that's why there are so many critic's.

Cunnie,
I was first honest, it's that Kirsty, what's she like  , however I think you'll find Thorne had to be written about twice cos it's twice as nice as anywhere else.

Take care, be safe & Cunnie says once is enough, ok!!,

Top night of musical entertainment once again at the Tavern.

Superb spots from both guests Cliff Steel and Kitch and the usual excellence from Arthur and Maria.

Numbers slightly down from the last one but as Spot says no lack of enthusiasm on the floor and everyone seemed to enjoy a good mix of 6t's and 7t's quality soul.

Thanks to Karen and Maria

See you in August

Paul & Sue  :D

No matter how hard I prepare and plan, things always catch me out. The darn bulb died on stage before I finished, so we only had the one light. Yet those lovely guest DJs didn't even complain (nice, eh).
What a shame you couldn't turn yourself into a SPOT LIGHT :P

Many thanks for those who came and supported our guests and the wonderful music we all love :D
Some travelled far to be there, including the Thorleys, the Pountains, Kipper, the Greatstone gang and others. (Actually, Karen will know where everyone else lives, but I'm never that nosey  :) ).
I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I understand that there were 89 on the door + guests - so not as bad as I'd feared, as some of the regulars could not attend due to football or had good reason. There were so many nice people there smiling away - especially those fine women on the floor and in the vinyl bar area. The venue management love you all too.

Due to another fiasco (I don't do boring), we had a last minute need to book into the Belmont and before Cliff and Kitch could escape after breakfast, I did eventually ask for playlists. However, I can't actually remember :D if they said 'yes' as they ran out clutching Julia, Natalie, Elaine, their vinyl and bleeding ears.
It's up to them - but my fingers, toes and intestines are crossed!

Had a great night at the canal tavern, last saturday nite. Having been a regular at Thorne in the 80's, I made my return after some 19 + years (1989 -2008). I was great to meet Robin and Ady and the lads from the north east, and thanks for Adam for twisting my arm into attending.

Top nite, top crowd and top Stella drinking. Musically very good. It was enjoyable chatting to Sir Arthur Fenn, great to see you again Arthur and all the gang. I will be ensuring I do return in August 2008.

Thank you.

Nick. ;)
