William Bell live at the 6TS Cleethorpes Weekender 15th-17th June 2012

Yep, we've finally nailed our man. The epitome of a 60s and 70s male soul singer and a mainstay of the mighty Stax records outta Memphis for so many years.

He'll be wowing the crowd with a full band with three horns and two female backing vocalists and will perform a great cross section of his stompers, crossover, club soul and magnificent ballads; a show to relish.

'Happy', I Forgot To Be Your Lover', 'The Man In The Streets', 'Never Like This Before', 'Private Number', 'Born Under A Bad Sign', 'You Don't Miss Your Water', 'My baby Specialises' and more; stunning stuff!

I'll be sending a proper mail out with flyers and more details next week.

We do have plenty of weekend dance passes left at £59 each by cheque to

6TS Weekenders

8 Buttercup Walk

Desborough

Northants

NN14 2RT

or £61 PayPal (to cover their charges) to this PayPal address

If you're currently skint or a cautious Yorkie like mi sen, send £20 deposits or £20.75 PayPal balance due 1st June

We don't have any accomodation left on site but there's plenty next door at Thorpe Park a walk away. Or B&Bs and hotels in town.

See you in sunny June!

Ady

Great news ..... in fact it's "Headline News".

Hope Ady ignores his usual prejudices and lets William sing some of his MS gems ("Tryin To Love Two" instantly springs to mind).

Trying To Love Two is definitely under consideration. I didn't realise I'd got prejudices in this area of my work, I always try to get the best set for the Cleethorpes crowd irregardless of what label the records came out on.

Wow, great news. The acts seem to get better every year and I for one can't wait.

Trying To Love Two a big spin for Dave Thorley back in the 80's.

Ady, You are a top true soul man .... but you do push 60's to the fore at every opportunity !!

.... there are some of us that still like the sounds that got us into soul in the 1st place ..

.... ... but we've also moved on to love 70's, 80's, 90's & even Y2K stuff.

I don't actually think that is fair for Cleethorpes, unlike Prestatyn where acts sung basically only Northern regardless of their other material. Cleethorpes tends to allow freedom to their acts, just often they have large amounts of Northern friendly material.

Ady best ever act I think and fitting for my Cleethorpes retirement year, I assume Mr Bell wouldn't fancy doing two sets, a 30 minute ballad set in late afternoon in addition to his main room one. I suspect this is going to be the best soul act we have seen at a Weekender.

I may have no home to lay my bag down for this weekend yet but happy to act as Mr Bell's Chaperone for weekend and ask him to sign all his albums over the weekend for me!

PS ask him to bring Jeff Floyd or one of his other label mates over as backing and then sing a couple solo himself and I will love you a long time!

Best news this year!

Yes there is, Kirmington which is about 15 miles away and Doncaster which is about 50 miles away with a train you can get to Cleethorpes

Hope you don't mind me saying Ady, allot of folk would feel we didn't get the full package if we did not hear 'Trying to Love Two'.

And deffo worth suggesting 'I Forgot to be your Lover' as an ultimate William Bell ballad.. I've Learned to play this on my guitar, but I cant sing for toffee..make my day to see William sing that live..

I flew KLM Amsterdam to Humberside airport about 10 years ago and it was relatively cheap and only a shortish taxi ride to Beechcomber. At that time not many flights as generally a package type airport but at that point they had a service for offhsore type workers so Amsterdam was one of the destinations, as well as Aberdeen.

I did have to fly back at about 7 on the Sunday morning, which was a challenge!

Its the BIGGEST thing to have happened in Lincolnshire EVER!

The guy has a stunning repertoire of his own HAPPY / I FORGOT TO BE YOUR LOVER / YOU GOT THE LOVE I NEED / MAN IN THE STREET / NEVER LIKE THIS BEFORE / IT'S HAPPENING ALL OVER / SOMEBODY'S GONNA GET HURT / ANY OTHER WAY etc... and having been owner of the owner of the legendary PEACHTREE record label, the possibilities beyond his own vocal cuts are mouth watering... producer of 'SEVEN DAY LOVER' and Eddie Billups 'ASK MY HEART' etc.

Good Lord! This could be truly INCREDIBLE!

Awesome job Ady.

Best news I've heard since SPENCER!

Jock !!!!! what is this pish you are spouting about a retirement year ?

Either I am hoping for the sympathy vote and hoping to be provided with free beer by a select few, including yourself, and other equally stimulating presents all weekend, or Mr Bell is going to be so good nothing will ever equal it so not worth ever going out again.

Or I am just a big drama queen trying, and miserable failing, to get some attention!

2 out of 3 aint bad I suppose.

Not too likely Mark, but I'll see what's possible. William's already bringing over his manager.

Ady you would probably pay for his flight with tickets just to see him, he is a stunner, go on you can do it. We believe in you. You will go down in history then.

I would say I would even sleep with you if you bring that off, but suspect you might see through that as a pathetic attempt to get a decent caravan on site....

Anyone got a decent quality scan of a promo photo of William Bell? Or better still an original 60's or 70's one they are prepared to sell?

Cleggy & Prestatyn (now also sadly gone) will never seem right without Glenn being there. RIP old mate.
