Valentine Classic Kidderminster on
This event is now over
Tribe plays host to the West Midlands Soul Club for this years Valentines Party, a year when the movement also celebrate 50 years of Motown & Soul!
The West Midlands Soul Club was founded in the 1970's by local Kidderminster DJ's Mick Flello,Steve Russell & Joe Brag.
Infamous nights at the Nautical William launched the West Midland Soul Club and thursday night at the Nautical was usually the start for a weekend of Northern indulgence. With trips to VA VA's (Bolton) or Samantha's (Sheffield) on fridays followed by The Torch, catacombs or Wigan Casino on saturdays and a cool off at Tiffanies Newcastle-u-Lyme All Dayer on sundays.Word of the West Midlands Soul Club later spread to Wigan Casino where Steve & Mick could be found as guests at this world famous venue.
From humble local beginnings at the Nautical the club was soon organising events all over the Midlands. If you ever went to an All Dayer during the 1970's at The Stone Manor (Kidderminster),Tiffanies (Coalville and Halesowen),The Locarno (Birmingham) or the famous Palais in Nottingham, the chances are you will have good memories of a West Midland Soul Club event.Other promoters followed at all these venues but Mick & Steve set a high standard enjoyed by thousands (yes thousands) of West Midlands Soul Club members. All of the big name DJ's of the day were booked for these events and a number of up & coming stars of today were given their first chance behind the decks at West Midland Soul Club events.
During the late 70's & early 80's the West Midland Soul Club retained it's Northern roots, but also made a name for itself as a supporter of the new fangled Jazz Funk with the innovative alternative room at certain venues.
Today of course the West Midland Soul Club has risen again now run by Steve,Basil & Mr Tee. They run promotions across the region and the event at Kidderminster's stylish Tribe Nightclub should not be missed as we bring you the DJ's from the hey day of Northern Soul!!
