SUNDERLAND MOTOWN 50 EVENT on
This event is now over
A special tribute night is to be held to celebrate 50 years of the iconic American record label Tamla Motown
The event is to be held at Oddies Bar on Hylton Road in Sunderland - which has recently undergone a major refurbishment.
Owner operators, John and Pat Royal have been trading since 1989 and have seen various changes during their 20 years at the popular venue - "...but music like Tamla Motown etc still never fails to get customers up dancing", says Pat.
Mr and Mrs Royal have persuaded Jon Banwell to be the D.J. for the evening and admission will be free of charge.
In the early 70s, Jon was a disc jockey at various Sunderland venues including a residency at the famous Sunderland club, Annabels and also at sister club Julies in Newcastle upon Tyne.
He says, "Like many baby boomers I grew up with the original Motown sound in the 1960s and 70s, but this music is still amazingly popular with people of all ages from teenagers to many Northern Soul fans and Modernists - and it remains an influence on today's biggest pop and R'n'B stars.
The Friday night special at Oddies will be a great night - all about the music and 100% Motown!"
This 50th anniversary event takes place at Oddies on Friday 27th February from 8pm until Midnite.
Oddies is on Hylton Road and is very close to Sunderland city centre.
The address is: 58 Hylton Road, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, SR4 7AB
All Soul Brothers & Sisters welcome. (over 18's !)
