You can pay on the door. 2.50 saving per person if purchased in advance.

WRONG.Just phoned city hall to book 4 tickets told the price would be £55 when payed with debit card, also same when tried to book on line. That's a £1.25 booking fee on my order per ticket, a true saving of £1.25 a ticket with an outlay of £55 two and half weeks prior to the venue. The £2.50 saving is only available if purchased at city hall,OK if residing near but not if like myself having to travel 30plus miles, and i might add most of the rest of the crowd that will be there will be travelling,it is not an option.Once bought the tickets are non refundable and one never knows whats round the corner,IMHO pay on the door if you decide to go the saving is minimal, money is better in your pocket unless a KIngs Hall arrangement can be set up.

Hi Alan.

Thanks for doing the maths on that one, i suppose this is a good deal for the DJ line up and the venue its being held at.

Hi everyone

i don't want this to sound out of line but having

just listened to the BBC Sheffield Soul and Motown show with Steve White on iplayer, i cant believe how much air time this event got a good 8 minutes of prime soul air time, ok i know this is a major event but i didn't think the Beeb could plug anything to this extent.

Hey Donna,

You don't think that was just Steve doing a little extra to cover his DJ fee?

I said the same on Wednesday night, he made out it was news to him but he was on the dj list all the time, any other event only gets a mention the week before.

He had no need to plug it like he did, the event clearly has a quality line up and will be well advertised. Steve does a cracking job giving all the do's a mention but this was ott. @£15 a shot they can afford to advertise.

Hi Paddywack, i didn't want to sound like i was having a go but my friends Tim and Sue thought the same as well, pretty poor i thought to do that on the radio and as you say at £15 OTD they really can afford to advertise.

This is a first class venue with excellent facilities, a top DJ line up and peace of mind security. This isn't a church hall or working mens club, more a big city experience.

It is a beautiful venue. Nice big Room (from what I remember from last visit) but £15 ?? Brid Weekender - 3 Nights/Days - £25 in a massive gorgeous venue !!

I understand the costs for DJs etc but with the economical climate we find ourselves in at present maybe the DJs and organisers should think about the punters and lessen their charges a tad. Petrol is extortionate and after Weds Budget it will probably be loads more. If you are not local you could be shelling out £50 or more before you've walked through the Doors.

Don't want to get embroiled in an argument, just being the Devils advocat and putting forward what i suppose a lot of people will be saying.

Hope it goes well as it is a storming line up and a awesome venue.

Thats fine good luck to you. What I am saying is that Steve Whites plugging of this event was OTT, after all it is the BBC and is funded by us the licence payer and as this event is for profit it should be promoted by your own advertising. Us low life working mens clubs don't get a fraction of the coverage that this did, and as some are done for charity with people doing stuff for nothing.

Paddywack - Good call that man. We run a small venue and spend an inordinate ammount of time and money travelling from venue to venue handing out flyers and pushing our little club. We make enough to pay for the DJs and the room with a little for us to keep the kit running. All for the love of the Music. Work all week to live and live the weekend for the Music.

But saying that, if I had my own show I would push my stuff as often and as much as I could. Can't really complain cause Steve does give us a plug occasionally !!! ( Edging my bets Lol !!)

Mr Roberts with all due respect, other promoters offer "The Big City Experience" for far less.As Tezza posted with everyone stretched finacially its a bit much!

Paddywack you really hit the nail on the head (see above qoute) it really was way over the top and on the Beeb too (it's still on iplayer if anyone cares to listen to it.

http://www.bbc.co.uk...own_17_03_2012/ from 1:12.0 mins

It came across to me as a real vested for Steve White, sorry if i'm out of line by saying this but there are so many great soul night out there that are ran purely for charity that get basic air time on the very same programe that would give their high teeth to this amount of coverage.

The phrase "Big City Expererience" has been used to discribe this event, ok that might be but aren't we always saying "it's the music and the people that count?" i truly wish that everyone who attends has a great night, but for myself i'll be sticking to the pub function rooms and working mens clubs for a while longer.

Sorry wasn't promoting other events specifically was making a comparison, didn't realise that wasn't allowed, and wasn't able to articulate my opinons - apologies

Still would like to comment that IMHO this is far too expensive and we love WMC, halls - the typical back street soul clubs we grew old in

Can ask that all stick to the topic in question & if you want to comment on other events that you do so on the relevant threads.

Also that if you want to comment on big 'v' small events you start a separate thread in the correct forum.

We made an unplanned visit to SCH last night , what a venue !

Arrived to see around 15 security staff going through their procedures to keep the night safe and smooth for everyone , three rooms , three sound systems , many Dj's and the sheer oppulence of the place must make this an expensive event to run"professionally" plus it was the first one so I would guess it was testing the water as to how many numbers would attend with the hope it would cover what must be massive overheads to run.

It was very well attended and looks to be a possible large "gathering type" event for the East side of the NS map so who knows that price may come down when the venture reaches a state of equilibrium ?

One thing is for sure many looked happy and as if they would return.

The sound system wasnt the best but it was great to see so many nice people just enjoying themselves, well done Sheffield!

This was crap. But our fault should have read the description properly, thought we were going to a northern night.

Instead we had an evening of pop/motown -but there you go..

Security was brilliant though and im sure a lot of people enjoyed the evening.

No problem mate. My own fault for not paying attention to the way the event was advertised. The main room wasnt particularly full though and the small northern room was packed-draw your own conclusions for the next one.

It was never advertised as just a Northern night. Motown, Northern, Jazz Funk/Modern.

Largest crowd for Sheffield this year.......a great start.

Hi Geoff, as you say it was Ëœas advertisedâ"žÂ¢ and judging by the numbers overall very popular. I particularly liked the venue layout with three adjacent and connecting rooms/music policies which enabled an easy flow between them for whatever floated your boat at a particular time . Personally like Yocki, for obvious reasons, chuffed to bits the northern room was rammed though swopping with the massive main ball room might have a reverse affect being 6x the size and the numbers in that room from choice (for club soul and classic motown) being far too many for the adjacent rooms ? I spent some time in the other than northern rooms and must admit seeing so many of the smartly dressed 'next generation' enjoying the vibe shown me that the future is bright and clearly the demand for this type of multiple Ëœsoulâ"žÂ¢ event meets their aspirations and expectations along with a quality environment and facilities in well located location.

Just like to say what a fantastic dance floor in the main hall no talc needed, hopefully next time they have that as the northern room. This a spot on venue and hopefully have the same success as the king`s hall in stoke. Looking forward to August. Dave

Andy, fully concur with you, I too noticed the large number of well-healed younger generation attendees. The choice of the three rooms combined with such a classy venue seems to have appealed to a much wider audience and this can only be good for the on-going scene. Yes it was pricey but it didnt seem to stop the numbers coming in. Even my soul hating bride was on the floor in the main room to some of the lighter club sounds and this got me at least an extra hour longer than she can usually bear!

There was something for everyone I guess. Could have done with more bar staff and lower prices, but i'd always say that!!

Richard Searling was very funny at the early warm up stages, especially stopping tracks half way through, coz he thought somebody else should play it.

Could be brilliant if it was full. Needs bus loads coming in to swell the locals numbers. Will go to the next one if possible.

Hi Terry...it's Dave Hill....you missed a cracking night mate...even your old sparring partner Kenny P turned up...agree a bit about the price but it's been so long since most of us got together it didn't really matter...I think I'm going to the next Route 61 do so we'll, catch up sooner or later pal.
