The warm up and meet and greet on the Friday was superb last year, but the real mad buzz was the 2 part Saturday....down in the beach bar in the afternoon when the atmosphere started cranking up, and then ran seamlessly into a superb Saturday night...... on that day I heard [i.m.h.o. ] some of the best and varied Northern tunes I'd heard all year......

.....and then we did it all again on the Sunday at a different beach bar !

Magic.

No problem with the Blues goal difference, the play offs are in the bag, and then "The Panic Is On".

The management of Fistral Blu bar on Fistral Beach - the home of the UK surfing scene - have been in touch today to confirm the arrangements for the afternoon session on Saturday May 6.

It will run from 1pm to 6pm and DJ's will be Terry Jones, Pete Lyster, Neil Self, Steve Lloyd, Andy Wagner, Motown Sue/Joe Dean and Steve Guarnori.

Saturday afternoon at Fistral Blu has become an integral part of "The Friendly Weekender" Newquay experience, and

it does not get much better than than sipping a nice cold cider outside the Bar and watching the surfers in action whilst listening to great Soul Music.

The bar management can't wait either, they love the vibe.

After his sterling efforts last year, Graham Harland will again be in charge of the decks for the Friday afternoon (5pm) meet and greet.

Funny lasy year as the booze flowed how Graham's behaviour behind the decks magically transformed from shy and retiring to anything but!

As always the secret ingedient Soulvation cocktails will be free at the meet and greet. So that's us all being sensible again...

Is the Fistral Bar chill out and listen on a sunny afternoon or do people dance?

Just thinking what type of thing for that set.

Looking forward to the Friendliest Soul weekender in the UK!! IMHO. And if you are still tempted to book, then get in touch with Neil Rushton at www.soulvation.biz real soon, you won't regret it I assure you it will e a blast!! from the welcome party on Friday afternoon right through to the last record played on Sunday night(Monday Morning)

Fistral on the Saturday is one of the highlights of the weekend.

A massive bar over three levels set in the dunes over looking the beach.

3262558-1.jpg

If the weather is sunny (which it will be) most will be out on the deck with all the doors pulled back listening to the sounds, chatting and consuming large amounts of Rattler.

The deck is right over the beach so you can watch the surfers do their thing with some quality soul as the sound track.

Make sure you order a taxi from the Cliffdene as it is much further than you think.

Staggering back can be fun though

A "must do" event for the last 5 years, can't make it this year :( but you'll love it Steve.

Sounds like FUN.

Steve, you'll have a ball, remember the conversation at Soul Essence, would I lie to you!!!

Saturday afternoon is sorted for me then, I'll have to forgo the visit to the Rattler Cider Farm and a round of Newquay Golf with the Taylor's! it'll be worth it

Any money Graham H is flat on his back by 19:30, must remember to take him a CD or two down......

Some of these great unreleased Pied Piper tracks recently discovered by Kent will be getting an airing at the Weekender.

Ady Croasdell (who did such a great job at last year's Newquay Weekender) has very generously loaned me a couple of acetates.

So it weill be Detroit A Go Go in Cornwall with September Jones, Harry Gates and Lorraine Chandler.

Fantastic.

Many thanks to Ady.

Pete,Andy,Matty taxi booked for 7.40 am Saturday morning - so it gives us a few hours to get our heads down after Mick and Terry have finished their 3am sets (yes I know last year I went up early!) but hey Mr L still whooped my arse on the course so , no early night for me(everything crossed!)

A2B were brilliant last year and they shuttled us down to Fistral in the afternoon too,so Ive spoken to them and theyre more than willing to do the same this year - £2 each last year if my memory serves me well - but theres always the TUK TUK!!!!!

Weather forcast is not brilliant but hey we have the music and of course great company too.

Starting to buzz now!

Cheers

Mart(pass me a Rattler appetiser from the fridge!)

PS Still time to add yer names(and turn up) to the Golf

It definitely feels like Newquay Weekender time now - the programmes are being printed and the secret ingredients for the infamous meet'n'greet complimenatry Punch have been purchased...

Keep playing the acetate on loan from Ady C of the unreleased take of "You Only Live Twice" - Lorraine Chandler, and can't wait to give it a spin on Satuday night. Maybe some of theDJ's could give some examples of what they will be playing?

I've got my mits on a philly acetate of the instrumental of Richard Anthony's ' no good ' [ thanks Des ], which I think will storm the dancefloor late on Saturday.

Two other bits I'm looking forward to playing, the Four Dudes -' hurt took the high road ' ( what a title ), and a mad bad uk instrumental by Reg Guest Syndicate 'underworld ' (think of 'Green Onions ' but on steroids !)

Also thinking of digging out the Larks ' micky's east coast jerk ', as it reminds me of me good mate Andy Wagner......well he is from from the east coast ( yorkshire - geddit ? ) ......

..tee hee.

Thanks for the good wishes Matt, the thing is the Play-Off joy of beating Millwall last time Blues were in the play-offs (what a friendly night that was) is more than counterbalanced by not getting past Watford, Barnsley and Preston in earlier years. So it's deinitely "The Panic Is On".

Saturday afternoon again turned into a gem, DJ's double decking really mixed up the sounds and the Rattler, which ever flavour was supt, went down a treat.

Roll-on next May and with that in mind, roll-on the first weekend in June this year, Weston here we come..........

Ditto the above comments - I personally love the Saturday afternoons @ Fistral and I even managed 45 mins downstairs saturday night too, thats an improvement on the past 2 years! Also enjoyed spinning a few on Sunday afternoon sat with great company too. Sunday night I again "hit the wall!"and slithered off to bed around midnight not before listening to "Tiger and Brains - The Double Deckers" spread their mayhem to a packed dancefloor!

So to everyone whom we spent a cracking weekend with roll on the next time we meet.

The lads that played Golf saturday morning I thank you and new and old recruits are more than welcome for next years "Wrestle the trophy from Adrian "Lee Van Cleef" Matthews" event - however one more Saturday Morning Excursion suggestion has been thrown into the mix, a trip to The Rattler Farm!!!!!!! Mmmmmm can we combine the 2? .

I must admit one of the funniest "lookbacks" from the staff had to be the Hungarian "Maitre D" trying to minimise the amount of tables being used for meal times by ushering people to sit on tables where HE decided you should sit, instead of in the past adopting the sit where to want policy , im really glad we got seated before he TRIED to adopt this policy, peoples faces were priceless - He said Hungarian efficiency was his motivational drive!!!!

Roll on Weston,so we can all get encompassed under "The Friendly Weekender" banner once again.

Thanks to Neil,Marie and all the DJs for their commitment and a big thanks to friends new and old for making this an enjoyable weekend...........AGAIN

Sincere thanks to everyone who made the Newquay Weekender such a success again.

Andy Wagner sent me an e-mail on the journey home headed "The Friendliest Weekender" and that summed it up

perfectly.

It was great that both regulars and newbies mixed together and got into the special Newquay vibe.

The DJ team - and they are a team - did great and made me proud. Thanks to all of you. Great music from great people.

Special thanks to Neil Self for doing such a fantastic job supplying the sound system and lights for the Modern Room. And to Pete and Cathy Lyster for their ongoing support.

To everyone who attended from far and wide, again very sincere thanks. It's a long long journey for most people and the effort put into making the trip is very much appreciated.

I thought The Cliffdne looked really smart now it has had the refurbishment. It really does work as a venue. On Saturday night at the 3.30am end both rooms were absolutely buzzing. Different music but lots of smiley faces in both at the same time.

Thanks to Anton and Lee Vowles for supplying the sound system for the Northern/Rare Room, Dazz and Ray (The Mitchell Brothers) for being the perfect security duo, and Craig at Aussie Marquees for the temporary dancefloor in the Modern Room.

And well done to the staff at The Cliffdene for making everything go so smoothly despite my ever changing rooming lists, and to John and his team at Fistral Blu bar for ensuring that Saturday afternoon was as smooth and relaxed as ever.

And of course to Marie who never stopped working.

Now roll on Weston Super Mare..

All The Best,

Neil

Not much I can add to what's already been said, a very friendly weekender. Also good to catch up with some people I have not seen for a long time, and good sets all round in both rooms I thought (no exceptions Matt!!), something for everyone I think mixing old and new, well known and not so well known, with Mick H rounding off both nights in the northern / rare room with some of his mega rarities.

Well done to Neil and the gang, we loved it.
