The Pow Wow Club Allnighter on
This event is now over
Founded in 2006 with the aim of combining the atmosphere, style & classic sounds of the mod weekender with the musical riches fuelling the underground soul and rhythm & blues scenes, The Pow Wow Club soon acquired a reputation for hardcore all night partying to an exciting soundtrack of carefully selected classic and obscure 60s dance tunes.
Hosted by long time DJs and vintage-record obsessives Gav Arno and Mik Parry, later joined by like-minded young fanatic Callum Simpson, the club presented guest DJs from across the UK mod scene who shared a taste for big floor-fillers along with an insatiable hunger for outstanding new and lesser known sounds. DJs such as Mace, Mark Thomas, Alan Handscombe, Neeef, Mikey Collins and Andy Lewis all contributed to the intense mix of Rhythm & Blues, 60s Soul, Ska, dancefloor Jazz, Boogaloo and cool but uncategorisable grooves that came to define the club.
Many now-classic mod & rhythm & blues records got their first exposure or became big at the Pow Wow, and the club contributed significantly to the sound of the worldwide mod & r&b scenes.
From rockin’ 50s r&b like Danny Cobb’s ‘My Isabella’ to sophisticated funky soul like Johnathan Capree’s ‘Gonna Build A Mountain’, and touching on every shade in between, the Pow Wow sound is diverse but consistently cool, catchy and full of character.
After a few years off, DJing around the UK and Europe and other, less glamorous pursuits, the Pow Wow residents unite with long time allies Mace and Alan Handscombe for a special all night party at the atmospheric Bidds venue in Longton, Stoke-on-Trent.
The decade maybe new, and a bit shit, but the Pow Wow spirit survives, bringing the most outstanding, soulful and desirable dancefloor delights of the golden age of music to all who feel it.
All music lovers are welcome, to the return of the famous Pow Wow Club!
