This was my first visit to the new home for Hoodoo Rhythm and I must say Lindsay has found a cracker of a venue.

Upon entering the double doors, you are towards the end of the hall where the stage is.  In front of the stage is a large polished dancefloor (overlooked by large pictures of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe & James Dean - remains from the Rock n Roll Club meets that are held at the same venue, fortunately not at the sametime  ) , which leads to a carpetted area at the back of the hall with tables and chairs, behind which the bar (fully stocked and staffed) is situated at the opposite end of the hall to the stage and dancefloor.  So no reason for anybody to be walking or dancing across the dancefloor with glasses in their hands, which so happens didn't occur anyway.

I didn't arrive until about 9pm, at which time Don Mackenzie was behind the wheels of steel, spinning some quality oldies.  Don was followed by Danny North (one of the two co-promoters of Farnborough Soul Club who were guests that night, the other being Chris Thorley) who span a fine set of top notch tunes, one of which sticks in the mind being The Montclairs with Hey You.  With the dancers being up the floor, Danny was followed at about 10.30pm by Chris Thorley who played a set that kept those on the dancefloor there and those like me sitting down, tapping their feet in enjoyment.  Unfortunately, during Danny & Chris's sets at times the sound system wasn't performing at it's best, although saying that the problem was rectified just in time for the host & resident Lindsay to take over for the last half hour leading upto the finish at midnight.

With such a great venue, and with little else on in the South West area of London and Surrey, this event really is deserving of a few more people through the door.  I know Lindsay is planning on bringing in quality guest DJ's each month and here's hoping he makes a success of it, the venue and himself desrve to.
